Life / Can no longer receive TVP Info Wrocław on digital DVBT [25]

You are using an indoor aerial ?

I'd say it highly likely you are pointing at the wrong transmitter. Find the correct transmitter and make sure you are aiming for it.

here ?

radiopolska.pl/wykaz/pokaz_lokalizacja.php?pid=138

You are probably picking up the Opole transmitter which, if you are in Wroclaw, will be in the same direction.

radiopolska.pl/wykaz/pokaz_lokalizacja.php?pid=6

Point to the correct transmitter, the arial will have a 20 degree wide band. Alternatively switch off the amplifier and use a poorer quality arial

Its possible (maybe due to the weather) you are picking up a different transmitter. You can easily receive from150km away and now they may have boosted transmission power to make it possible. Find out where your aerial is pointed - it may have to be re-aligned = what transmitter should you be aiming for?

Work / Polish nurses, gender and salary [32]

many of my nurse friends in Krakow had to get masters to keep their jobs in a hospital.

My wife is half way through her masters degree, in Krakow, about a third of the nurses in her year went onto the two year additional years of study after the BSc. Most do it part time (work five days, study at weekend). Some do the Master degree full time and can get a grant. Student grants for the Bsc degree course are between 300-1000 per month - dependent on exam results.

It would seem that all the students obtained jobs immediately after leaving their degree course locally in Krakow, 2200-2500pln the starting salary. A Masters degree is worth a few hundred more, the main reason to do it is not financial, they seem to like the achievement.

The Nurses course in Krakow is UK RCN approved and requires a English modules, so its internationally recognized, not that seems to be used much by the Nurses. I think there was one at least male nurse in my wifes year. They are welcome, because they have the physical strength that many of the 45kg nurse lack. The course is hard as it requires practice interspersed by study with few breaks and no sickness (no long student holidays), if you become ill you will probably fail

The better ones try to get specialised jobs, though that is hardly unique to Poland.

There is a constant demand for nurses world wide as the population is ageing. I find it unlikely that doctor would 'lower' themselves to become nurses and I doubt they are qualified anyway, they become doctors for ego reasons. Seven years study and not use their qualification? Crazy. The nurses all seem to love their jobs, how long that will last I'll have to wait and see, but 'hard' is not a description I've heard

that type of work will - of course - me beneficial to the economy in Poland, because they don't spend while they work, and they come home with plenty .

I don't think any of that is relevant. The number of men is low and very few (well, one to Sweden - out of 200) of the nurses have migrated. Males nurses have boyfriends at home they will want to return home to, so not much differance there, although children are less likely.

Life / Racism in Poland - the future [441]

Anyway, I'll refer you to peterweg's post and remind you that you don't have to agree with my comments or conclusions about you. But I will still make them.

Don't bastardise what I said, I said a poster can reproduce something without agreeing with it.

True, you can post absolutely anything you like. So heres a picture of Bambi

broken link removed

Looking nothing like he would after my brother in law had skinned and gutted him.

Stating that you made a personal lifestyle choice to be married is not relevant; it's only an attempt to change the subject. I can't imagine you could say you didn't love your wife or her home country if she is there standing over your shoulder.

You are making a a big assumption and accusing him of an ulterior motive. There is no evidence of that, he didn't write the article, merely posted it.

Its an important point, you can post link to an article to prevoke a discussion or inform, you don't have to agree with its comments or conclusions.

Life / Racism in Poland - the future [441]

I can't remember any story of innocent coloureds in Poland falling victim of racist attacks.
Those who got beaten up were acting offensive (attacking the police, talking to Polish girls, stuff like that), so they more or less asked for it

So that answers the question, 'Does Poland have a problem with Racists?', with a big YES.

Life / Racism in Poland - the future [441]

"The harsh reality is that racism remains commonplace in Poland and there are numerous reports of xenophobia on the terraces and in the stands of Polish football grounds,"

So how many Polish football fans are going to be on the stands of, say, an England match? Kate Allen, director of Amnesty International UK, wonder if she has considered that crucial point.

Football championships bring all sorts of idiots out of the wood work, using it as a sounding box.

I would be far more concerned about the possibility of a terrorist attack, say an attack on a team bus.

News / Der Spiegel: "Poles are now the masters of Europe" [49]

Looks like its a bad translation

.

OK, but does it change anything about the fact that there are many unemployed people in Poland and that the prices are constantly rising?

I know, its hard saving up for a 42" plasma TV and PS3. The cost of Games and Blu-Rays are extortionate.

Still, at least you, unlike my grandmother, don't have to send begging letters to your son in England for blanket to keep warm in winter and Paracetamol to overcome the pain of being partially paralysed and bed-ridden

From that perspective, the UK's place in Europe might be seen as a "geographical sucess"

I think he's referring to his Norwegian superiority, the success of being born on a whole load of oil and natural resources. This make him and Norway a winner, obviously.

Yes, and all should take as a face value what some foreign newspaper claims ?

Never take at face value anything good said about the Polish Economy.

Foreigners on PolishForums know better. Apparently.

Life / Polish people are the most ignorant people in the world! [331]

The Poles are learning, comming to acivilized nation such as the United Kingdom, exposes them to phenomena such as queuing while waiting for a bus or a train.

LOL, the amount of whining I hear by the British about the state of the country.

Not so sure about that. I heard Egypt and Israel were the top 'sun' holiday destinations, which figures when you look at a map. And there is no mention of say Slovakia which is a day trip away, plus all the neighbors that people in Poland visit for shopping etc?

Are you Polish? The whole idea is that the forum is open to anyone.

Most people here are.... English speakers, who not surprisingly, are mainly non Poles.

Its not the places to get a impression of Polish attitudes and judging Poles based in the topics here is pretty silly.

I was just thinking how good it was that nobody had responded to this person......shame.

And he, like most of the posters on this forum are NOT Polish. As the OP proves, the silliest topics are from non-Poles, because you know this isn't really a forum for Polish people.

Life / Rich man, poor man - today`s Poland [80]

You mean that scandal with creative accounting a few years ago?

Not just that. Speaking to people who live there, it becomes obvious they fake a lot of stuff. The women rights for instance, in fact the women complain like hell, the men compile whatever reports just eradicate the facts. Education is supposed to be of high quality, however its such a small country they can miss off fundamental subjects and not even realize. So they don't know how compound interest is supposed to work...

Its a country that had a Soviet style of command economy and now is almost a one party state. Laws may exist, but nobody even reads them, never mind applies them. For instance they borrowed billions from abroad and linked the debt to the exchange rate as they were foreign currency loans. When this blew up, they went back and found out these loans were illegal and had been for 10 years so they revoked them and robbed the foreign lenders.

Iceland is Mafia state.

First places for Iceland,

Remove Iceland from the list. Its a country that invents statistics for promotional purposes. Luxembourg doesn't count either as half the working population don't live in country.

It's interesting that Jews and Muslims hate each other,

They are basically the same, its like brothers fighting over their family inheritance.

but at least i have the incomparable privilege of lying next to an entire male at night. Before this discussion, I hadn't considered quite how lucky I am - so thank you, Fuzzywickets, and Dodgefan, in particular, for highlighting that for me. : )

What would you know, Sex in the City is the Bible and it just might have been written by a women, even by a non-Jewish woman.

One of the most succesful, if not most successful woman targeted TV series of all time (i was always amazed at how many polish woman/girls watched this show) discusses this very topic in the second season.

Created by a Gay Jewish man. Keep on telling a woman what she prefers, you naturally (or not).

Yeah, right. women say no to cock depending on the amount of foreskin.

Circumcised men are a sad bunch, maybe I'll have the chop to see the difference, maybe not. I least I have the choice and know what feels to be complete.

Never been the slightest bit tempted to find out, though.

yeah, because it was truly unique.

At least it was rational and adult attitude to a ridiculous discusssion.
