News / Do Poles in Poland really feel betrayed because there won't be any US Shield? [288]

Geez, PP, they talk of peace but it's NOT reassuring as you know, or should know, that it's all rhetoric. Maintaining tension is what they want. You can't put people in harm's way. Russia was bluffing, I think, but what if it wasn't? Many Poles would feel a renewed sense of fear due to Russian retaliation.

That woman says many things and she tends to float with the breeze. Talk is cheap. She has taken a firm line with Israel on the settlements issue but they are just ignoring her.

She should stick to BJ patrolling, keeping her husband out of mischief ;) Now that cost the taxpayer a lot of money :(

Gumishu, how can you blame the Russians for going into territories that have been striving for independence? Sorry, the Russians didn't invade Georgia, that's a lie. They didn't honour the pullout agreement in the beginning but pulled back quick enough, much faster than America pulled out of Iraq. They sent out a warning signal to Saakashvili.

Putin has praised Stalin before and often mentions that he was Georgian. He has nothing really against the Georgians per se, more against the opportunistic and brash Saakashvili.

What makes the loaded Polish press any better, gumishu?

I see Putin agreeing to come to Poland and enter talks. I see Putin condemning the attacks on Poland in WWII. I see Putin backing off Poland after the missile shield deal fell through. I see Kaczyński being stuck in the dark ages with his morality and cheaply following the lie of the Georgian War of Aug 2008.

Sledz has a solid point here. How about forward planning, ever thought of that? Your visa expiry date should be at the forefront of your mind. Plan well before and get some of those relatives in Zakopane to pay your flight costs if you can't get further employment.

It's not the problem of the US, they merely issue visas with clear conditions attached.

Scrappy has a point in that the US has housed many Poles over the years, many without VISA's. Still, will he please remind me what is written on the Statue of Liberty!? (a gift from France).

If you advertise it as the land of opportunity and the free, some find that too hard to refuse.

The truth is that Bush sent Condo Rice to get the deal signed, sealed and delivered. Why? To further the neocons PNAC agenda in winding up Russia and securing a strategic hegemonical position. They were playing on sentiments which Kaczyński aroused and which have been inculcated into many Poles, that Russia needs to be paid back. Tusk played along like a clueless puppet.

Sorry PP, I'm with sledz on this one. You want a deterrent, you make sure people tow the line or face the consequences. If it goes unpunished, they'll do it again and again. I know if scuppers the chances of innocent folks but that's life. Innocent Americans run the risk of being killed in many countries due to how events have unfolded.

Right on, Scrappy. I've found myself agreeing with your points, what's going on here? ;) ;) Clearly Germany isn't plying them with enough funds from the EU ;)

Poland signed the contract but hardly kicked up a stink when it was rescinded. Russia has adopted a nicer tone now and no missiles will be pointing at Poland from Kalingrad.

Just give us some money, LOL

That about sums it up, Mr Thug. Politicians have to at least try and move with the will of the people but they were just doing business. The Poles I've talked to on this issue are clearly of this belief too. There is no imminent danger here and it's insulting to Poles to say that Iran poses a threat. It's all spin and they'll never come out and admit it.

It's Israel that's sparking it up there by disproportionate killings. They didn't hit back at Israel for OCL 27/12/08-18/01/09. Israel should be thankful for that.

News / US to deploy Patriot missiles to Poland [405]

After a review of the threat from Iran, what nonsense!! It's bargaining and maneuvering, it has feck all to do with any reviews. The issue is and always has been, 'are they secretly enriching uranium outwith the gaze of the inspectors?'. I can also say that the Israelis have super high-tech equipment to monitor the situation. No, they can't probe everywhere but they have more on Iran than they make out.

More spin here than a spinning top :(

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

Not looking at you when serving you or talking on the phone and not opening the til for the next 2 mins, that's bad. I had that today, 2 idiots in consecutive delis. They just don't give a toss.

My ss were in a weird mood too, aloof and disinterested. Cnuts!

Food / Polish Pizza !! The best in the world? [330]

My friend was rather shocked when I told him that donuts were French and not American.

Polish pizza is really good but it's all subjective. The pizzas in Scotland are good too. Snappy's or Piccolo. Piccolo did the best tuna pizza I've tried.

Poland has some good non-chain places. In fact, you can really pick up some bargains there.

Life / 3 reasons why you hate Poland. [1049]

There are parts like that but I favour Scotland to be worse for that kind of intimidation. In Glasgow, you can have a knife pulled on you much faster than here. Poland has a city that is notorious for flickknives but it's not that bad (Kielce).

Litter? Geez, it's much cleaner than the UK in the part I live in.

Lack of manners? Yeah, in quite a few parts. Good manners cost nothing but you can be pleasantly surprised here.

I don't drive but I do have to dodge cars from time to time :)
