Food / Polish Pizza !! The best in the world? [330]

I might try Kaufland pizzas. I think it was the member 'frd' that told me they were good. I like Dr Oetker pizzas but tend to avoid them as they are overly calorific. The Poles would be good at DIY pizzas. They are very resourceful people and you can see that with soups. I thought the Scots were wizards but Poles really excel.

LOL, it's a bit like saying, 'come on, give us your cash' and then letting you find your own way out as you have served your function. That's typical of Polish business. I've raised that point with my fiancee who, being a stubborn Pole, won't admit it. It's glaringly evident for foreigners. If putting your head down and turning away when the money has been handed over is good business, then I'm Jesus's long lost brother ;) The old 'do widzenia na odpierd*l się'. In quite a few shops in Scotland, local ones generally, they'll even walk you up to the door and let you leave happily.

However, there are exceptions to every rule. The waiters at the mountaineers restaurant are trained to be cheery and lively. You leave with a good taste in your mouth, so to speak (the food is legendary). I'll never forget a ramen restaurant in Fukuoka, Kyushu. I know that the Japanese slurp (siorbać) and frown but this place was sth else. Even my smily GF joined the club. I asked her why she looked so sad after having joked with her for 20 mins preceding that. She said that it was a custom of the establishment and that I'd better go along with it. Wow, talk about going against my nature. Old Poles would have felt right at home. They wouldn't be allowed to talk about their imaginary ailments there though ;) ;p

Food / Polish Pizza !! The best in the world? [330]

Some of it is pretty special. The non-chains tend to be better. There are 5 pizza shops within 10 minutes of where I live and 2 of them are local businesses. I have to say that the level is very high, especially if they get the crust right. I've tried pizza in different countries and Poland is right up there. You have to imagine that Italy and America are 1 and 2, though. Just!

Krysia, I put neither on. It was the extra cheese that was too heavy. I hadn't eaten a pizza for a while and it took its toll :(

Yeah, the good old Belgians there :) That Polish pizza has made me ill. It was a good pizza but I wasn't as hungry as I thought.

I've just ordered a 50cm pizza. I hope my fiancee helps me out with it as it'll make for 2 meals tomorrow. 39PLN with extra cheese. Good value for a gigantic pizza.

Geez, it's so hard to deny yourself for a long time. I'd love a pizza but it'll just go straight on. I'd love one of those super metabolisms. Ah well, whisky and coke is the lesser of 2 calorific evils and it'll do me just fine. Good old Grants :)

Life / Why are so many Polish People rude on the internet? [96]

I just don't think you have scoured so many sites, preferring to focus in on your own experiences. That's not a broad perspective.

Let's just say that I know the culture here better than you do. I also live with my eyes and ears open and that's how I pick up language and cultural norms quickly.

Fine, make comparisons but don't deflect the topic by saying that not only Poles do it. Everyone with half a brain is aware of that.

Well, you were butting in without knowing what on earth you were talking about!! Speak Polish do ye lad? Go on, give us a laugh!! No, I'll take you to task and show that you really shouldn't be on this thread.

What Polish sites do you frequent?

Once again, we are discussing Polish people. What part of that don't you get? Answer the question and stop digressing on your tangents. I'm not discussing English people here. If I were, I'd be on an English forum. Simple? Kapisz?

Torny, I'm not in the best of moods (understatement) so I refer you to post 84 above, point out that this is about Polish people (NOT Brits) and await your response.

I wish I was gay but happiness is elusive at the moment.

His point was that, instead of going out and doing alpine sports, they stay in and procreate to have all those babies coming out for summer.

I know him and know what he meant.

Pgtx has clearly lived in both Poland and America and she can make comparisons. PP, when were you last in Poland? Pgtx is right, they do try and ram you. They are like Japanese o-battalion, those old women in shops who race around with their trolleys/shopping carts, trying to knock you out of the way. Scotland is very similar.

PP, he is talking about the prams/strollers, not the hibernation. Go back to square 1, that's a fail!

America is much bigger, PP. You get more space. I don't think you understand the space dynamic in Poland. It's similar in Scotland too.

Maybe he lives in a small city with small sidewalks, PP. You don't know how these mad bit*hes ram you. Maybe he meant that they do no work over the winter months. I'd understand if we saw the same girls wrapped up in winter that were scantily clad in summer but the streets are often abandoned. Seriously, in the city where I live, they go underground.

News / Do Poles in Poland really feel betrayed because there won't be any US Shield? [288]

It can't reach Poland, sledz. I've seen the schematics. It can reach the border of Romania/Ukraine. However, look at the northwesternmost part of that border and the southeasternmost part of Poland, NOT that far. If the calculations are off.....

Iran won't fire, plain and simple.

2) Very true. They can dish out blame but not take it at all.

3) Again, my experience too. They have been late 4 times for work and not only did they not apologise, they tried to make out like I was stalling or being unprofessional. I was absolutely shocked! I need them to open the main door.

4) Whining is a national pastime. It's, frankly speaking, embarrassing!

7) Having lived in Japan, I see this very clearly. They keep their distance and you don't see a face just as you turn around. Here, well, a very different picture.

8) Some would say they know how to queue. They skip in masterfully. You should try the PKO bank. There was a place called Sth Different here, it's that one. It was like a scene from a horror movie.

I don't see many people defending the above, Soggy. Doesn't that strike you as strange? Spot on with the other points. The hibernation point is funny and very true. The pretty women just seem to disappear into oblivion, into their caves. Well, I'm off stoke up the coal fire ;)

6) Gliwice has a good restaurant called Gazdówka, the mountaineers restaurant. The service there is really good. However, if you are accustomed to British or American standards, you will notice the difference in other places. I am from a smily family and was well served in Scotland. Here, it depends. Too many women are broody!

Where are you from, Soggy? Where do you live in Poland?

Life / Are foreigners welcome in Poland? [305]

It's about principle, Pawian. If poor Poles can beg on the streets of London, poor Romanians can beg on the streets of Warsaw.

You can't make a blank statement like "foreigners are welcome". Why do you think I keep saying some are and some aren't? Because it's the truth.

There's always a might, frd. I haven't been attacked in 5 years of living here. That's maybe because I don't encounter groups that often. I favour my chances in most 1-2-1 situations here and would-be attackers can maybe pick up on that.

I guess you'd have to contact GUS for stats on the relative ratio of attacks. Of course Poles get attacked here too. Still, relative to the foreign contingent here, I believe that the statistics may tell a story.

Having said that, it also depends on the area. Gliwice is relatively safe.

Geez, my sincerest condolences! Nobody should be subjected to that irrational hatred.

I've been warmly received by some and harshly received by others. That's just the way it is but I'd tip the scales more towards the unwelcome side. The truth is, I don't care what they think of me. Many may like me, many may not.

Exactly! A lot of rudeness on the net is in response to their unscrupulous ways. Many people don't give a Castlemaine XXXX but many peoples' lives are directly affected by them.

Life / Why are so many Polish People rude on the internet? [96]

Those who have jumped ship have moved away from all that petty BS! I meant the merchants long ago who were instrumental in the drive towards the Union of the Parliaments in 1707.

Many still sell out but I mean politicians here and not common folk. How many referendums for independence have there been since 1999? 'You can't trust freedom when it's not in your hands' (Civil War, Guns N Roses). Listen to that song, many home truths.

Some Scots are morons, some of the hardest hitters when it comes to footie and total hypocrites at that. The same guys that beat one another senseless at derby matches club together and spew bile at English people when they lose. If only they knew how their own kind sold out and continue to sell out to the English.

Scotland and Poland have more of their fair share of numpties.

I agree. Still, it's very much here from what I have seen. Also, they seem to think their education is so much better than others.

The vanity of the women is astounding!

For example, frd? Frd, you are a nice guy and we get on so I won't rock the boat. Still, we are talking about Poland. You are free to prove me wrong, my friend.

I'm not disagreeing, there are others but...
