Quite probably, Davie. SeanBM, sorry but I've only done that twice and I don't make a habit out of it. Besides, it gets the old trouts back.

It's almost like they expect you to hold the door open for them. I take great delight in holding it open, all the while they are getting closer, and then I let go, LOL. I'm not here to make friends with old peasants and it's invariably them that I hold the door open for.

The same could be said for any country doing business. The Japanese are some of the worst for that, MUCH worse than the Poles. They perform all their little airs and graces but squeeze you in a bearhug at the negotiating table. They stick to their guns and almost disorient the other side.

Little Frog, you mean it was always dear to you :) If people could be banned for generalising, there'd be very few left on the forum.

It takes more energy to frown than it does to smile so why frown? Old biddies in Scotland are much the same as here, dour-faced moaners. We are champions at it! Still, there is competition all around the world. The Ruskies have many miserable old feckers, as do most Asian countries and, well, just about anywhere.

The only thing that really gets my goat here is the lack of ability to say thank you when sb has held the door open for you although I've been reliably informed that this doesn't extend to all of Poland.

I have to disagree, Torqy my friend. Trust me, Poles don't accept criticism that well. Rarely will they see it as constructive, more as an attack on their character. I'm just being fair here, I've seen it umpteen times. Other nations don't fare much better tbh.

I hope you were joking when you said that, by virtue of being a foreigner, his opinion is of no value at all. It is us who can tell you how things are in many other places and give you a benchmark/yardstick from which to form opinions. When defensive mechanisms are inbuilt, it's hard to accept even the smallest 'dig'.

I know you and know your calculated sarcasm so no worries :)

That was my point, Davie. It's utter crap to speak of it being better in that way. The usual dumb comment that Polish things are somehow better. False pride!

5 and 6 are good points. The never wrongs are hard to bear. The level of seriousness in some places is a joke.

I steer clear of those under point 1.

Your research goes deeper than an experienced black Swedish prn star, delph. How do you do it?

Pawian, Scotland has all that too. There are still those that live in the countryside that use/burn a lot of coal. The black adds some contrast to the grey.

Those Poles are not so bad really ;) ;) Yeah, much better than the African Express ;) ;) The express method to following through the roof into God knows what.

jwojcie, I meant for a country which professes itself to be behind the times when it comes to such things as trains. I don't like some of the hard seats but they are rare.

That's the downside of Japanese transport. They are so stupid that they actually forcibly push people onto trains. Have a look at this and laugh. youtube.com/watch?v=33qxTMA9XTA this cracks me up every time. Friggin zombies!

What's worse is that they have chikan (train perverts). They touch up and grope young girls. I was mortified at that. The little lemming sardines.

So, overall, the Swiss system may be for choice.

As for Poland, I think PKP gets a bad rap but they shouldn't. The only criticism would be the doors which can be a bi*ch to open. I love the Scottish trains, more comfortable and you only need to press a light button to open the doors when activated. Not wrench a door off of its hinges.

Well, I haven't used the Swiss but it's nigh on impossible to be as efficient as the Japanese system. It is the model of efficiency.

Swiss public may be second to none in Europe but Japan is the model of punctuality and high standards.

The number of lax waivers here is incredible. A number of inspectorates don't work as they should and need a reminder of their remits.

Frankly, they are very slack. Anyway, time for bed. Nite all :)

That's another good point, delph. I was under o dzieło for 3 years and I shouldn't have been. It's a nonsense. Even now, I got o zlecenie when I should have got oświadczenie usług. I even requested it. They just want money and grabbing is awful here.

Cheating the system is laughed off and generally accepted. That doesn't augur well for the day when European inspectorates give themselves the power to conduct sweeping searches. We will see a spate of companies hiring new accountants to bail them out of a mess which has an awkward exit.

3 reasons why you hate Poland?

1) Many women think they are sth special when they really need to pull the finger out

2) The endless humphing and grumphing as the modus operandi

3) The swicking that goes on in management here

Food / Your all time favourite Polish Dishes! [108]

Silesian żurek or....? I tried it near Warsaw and it isn't nearly as good as here. They have it with egg here and the texture is a little bit different.

Law and business are your interests, nice. That was my first university course, Law and Management. I will give a contract law presentation tomorrow.

A very well-thought-out reply, delph. I go along with what you said and would change only the weather part. Then again, it's much better than Aberdeen's coastal rain climate so I can't complain.

The language is easier for some than for others. As long as you give it a shot. I found it easier than Japanese in many ways.

Aha, ok. Well, you have to cater for all tastes and as long as they have the regular options on the menu, all is well.

Poland is not the only country to put (sweet)corn on their pizzas. We do it back home too.

I don't like the drowning of it in ketchup. My wife does that and she should pay for the ketchup.

FUZZY, do you know what okonomiyaki means in English? It means 'as you like it'. This Japanese pizza/pancake, probably my favourite food in Hiroshima, was never 'meant' to have cheese in it but I found a place in an alleyway that did it that way. It tasted very good I might add. Good old Hirano.

It's just preference. I tried a whole range of sushi in the kaiten-zushi places but never with cream cheese. Still, you can always avoid it and I didn't see anything of the sort in the sushi restaurant here.

The Mountain Dew does taste a bit different right enough. I was in heaven when I tried it in Japan. They have drinks machines at the sides of many roads and it was a Godsend. They also had Fanta Grape, lovely!

Do you eat the poultry ones or the pork ones? The poultry ones are slightly better but a good bit more expensive. I also like the internet connections in Poland. They seem to be that much better than in the UK. My parents have a rotten deal compared to me.

OK, time to be positive:

1) Quality kabanos sausages. I bought a pack of those pork ones today and they are really sth else. The Tarczyński brand :)

2) Some of the educated people are fantastic to chat to. I have a former PhD student turn international speaker plus a legal adviser as private students and they really make me raise my game. The quality of their insights is phenomenal. They are really down-to-earth too.

3) The team that I work with are really cool. 5 women and all pretty and smart.

4) My bed :)
