This sartorial hierarchy seems counter-intuitive for several reasons.

And it caused diplomatic blunders. E.g., at the banquet after the Vienna victory simple hussar soldiers, as more impressive, were led to major tables while their plain-looking officers were told to sit at the back. But Polish diplomats corrected the mistake.

It is a little chaotic but facts seem plausible.

Did you know that wings on Polish winged hussars` backs are a myth in its largest part?

That is the typical image of a Polish hussar which got stuck in popular opinion:

According to a Polish historian, a typical hussar looked like that:

Facts:

-most hussars didn`t use wings

-if they did, it wasn`t in combat, but on parades. And it was just one wing.

-the parade wing wasn`t attached to hussar`s back but to the saddle.

-instead of wings, hussars used feathers attached to their shields, helmets, horses` heads etc.

-nearly all hussar armours kept in museums today had their wing gear installed in 19 century. Simply speaking, most were forged. :):):)

-wings were attached to hussars` backs by Polish patriotic painters who needed a symbolic image of Poland fighting enemies. With wings, hussars looked like archangels in paintings.

The title of the thread refers to an American TV miniseries which was also shown on Polish TV in late 1970s. I vaguely remember those times, how the family sat down in front of the TV set and all watched the episodes with utter fascination.

Zauważyliście że w sekcji anglojęzycznej, szczególnie na forum historycznym obcokrajowcy notorycznie poruszają temat żydów?

Hmm, widocznie mają takie potrzeby.

Widocznie czują że Polacy nie wiedzą jeszcze wszystkiego o swoim antysemityzmie, który jest przecież taki swojski i naturalny że staje się niezauważalny.

I disagree with your analogy Pawian, in Smolensk accident there were Polish citizens who died on Russian territory.

It doesn`t matter whose citizens died on whose terrritory. I say: common Russians are our Slavic brothers, showing sympathy would be a brotherly thing to do.

Most survivors are adults - about 30-50 children were trapped under the deck and had no chance to get out.

Dear Russian brothers, my deepest sympathy is with you. My heart is so saddened by your loss.

Poland should declare at least one day mourning for the victims. It would be a wonderful gesture of compassion for our Slavic brothers, after they sympathised with Poles when the president`s plane crashed in Smoleńsk.

But no. Our leaders are not able to make such gesture of friendship. Pity.

They say that it is extremely difficult to make reliable forecasts longer than 3 days.

It seems not only 3 days are too difficult. Even the day forecast can be unreliable.

I wrote:

In Krakow it is hot and sunny, but showers are expected in the afternoon, with a nice evening later on.

No showers at all, it was a scorcher all day. We went on a trip 20 km out of Krakow and took umbrellas, in vain.

Now I am looking at the forecast service, they withdrew the former graph and replaced it with a more optimistic one. No rains today afternoon! :):):::):)

Most forecast services online are too general or unreliable.

However, it seems I found a good one. I tested it a few times and it really works. E..g, yesterday in Krakow it was hot and sunny in the morning but the service predicted rains in the afternoon, so, instead of going to the lake for a picnic, we went to the park. And it started raining, indeed, at midday. The same with our trip to Wrocław last week- the first day was great so we went to the zoo, on the second we did some sightseeing in the city first and then went to the Aqua Park to avoid getting wet by heavy rain. :):):)

The service is a bit complicated: you have to find your city/town/village in the voivodship:

After you locate your area, you get forecast for 5 days, divided into 3 times of day plus night, which is quite useful.
