Travel / Poland in photo riddles - part 3 [675]

the 33.3% correctness of your reply referred to eating. The remaining 2/3 which needs to be guessed apply to live and mouse. :):):)

I presumed there was 1/3 left to be found because you said this in response to my asking if that is where the snake lives.

Yes, it is. But it is only 30% of the solution. :):)

Then you said this in response to my asking if it was eating a live mouse:

Again, 33,3% correct answer. :)):)

That leaves 1/3 left of the riddle.

I guess it is sophisticated sarcasm i

Actually, no. In post 580 you asked what was going on in double mode, hence my answer of it being filmed from 2 different angles.

Travel / Poland in photo riddles - part 3 [675]

So the remaining third of the answer is that the gruesome spectacle was being filmed/photographed from different angles?

Language / Game - guess Polish idioms/sayings in direct English translation - part 2 [629]

I miss the RD.

Me too. My dad collected them. We had loads of them in our house. If I remember rightly, there was always a true life survival type story in them, like the one about the Uruguayan rugby/football? team that survived a plane crash in the Andes.

I remember 'Laughter the best medicine' and 'Humour in Uniform' sections too.

News / CO2 emissions in Poland. Should Poland go nuclear or stick with clean coal technologies? [86]

main ore supplying Polish energy needs should be coal f

Even if you put aside the problem of pollution, it's not economically competitive to mine it in Poland. Poland had been importing it from Russia prior to the invasion of Ukraine, and it's cheaper to import from non-EU countries that have lower labour costs.

Plus, as I said before the cost of extracting coal from Silesian mines is prohibitive.

Food / Polish cakes made in Poland [115]

They're not real maraschino cherries which are sour and from a variety called marasca. These cherries are bleached and then marinated in sugar syrup. They are also dyed and flavoured.

News / CO2 emissions in Poland. Should Poland go nuclear or stick with clean coal technologies? [86]

a primary source for Poland should be coal

The coal mining industry in Poland has been in decline for a long time now. The coal is of low quality and the mines had been running at huge losses due to the falling price of coal worldwide.

In addition, mines in Silesia are very deep and extracting the coal is not economically viable.

Pollution is exaggerated,

Burning coal and wood in Krakow is banned. I don't think they did that for no reason.

Language / Game - guess Polish idioms/sayings in direct English translation - part 2 [629]

How about giving up riddles and just posting photos with direct explanation so that you don`t feel so stressed???

No need to be snarky. All I did was to explain that because you wrote 'who' I presumed that you wanted the name of a particular person, not a group of people.

who spoke French in old Poland???

This question is why I got confused. When you said 'who' I presumed that you were thinking about a particular person e.g Chopin, Poniatowski. It's why I asked how many decades earlier. Had you said ' What group of people?' I might have stood a chance of correctly answering.

Iron`s comment on the pic of the Royal Castle in Warsaw:

Pawian, he's having a laugh. I'm sure Iron wasn't expecting anyone to take him seriously. I've noticed that he drops bits of French into conversation here and there but I presumed he had picked bits up over the years. He's not pretending to be an aristocrat.

UK, Ireland / What English food would you serve a Pole? [172]

a few markets stalls had it due to there being a lot of Scots in the town.,

Until you mentioned it I didn't realise it was a Scottish thing. Not sure why we were served it but I tend to put it in the same general category as Spam and all types of luncheon meat. Just gross.
