Amathyst was a regular poster who just vanished. Mare Gaee (I forget the spelling) was another. Also SeanBM.

Plus Convex, a mod, who was here one day and gone the next.

Uncertainty avoidance is a fascinating thing and cultures with high uncertainty avoidance rates tend to share lots of features

I was reading about this after your post. A couple of things were surprising. Firstly, the huge difference between Germany and Denmark, and also how high France is.

a preference for elaborate language (an important message needs important sounding language)

That's Poland all over.

sexually deviant when it is done in front of children

Do people have sex with each other in front of others where you live?

Perhaps you spent too long having fun in the prison shower.

In the case of Taco Don's convictions

Polonia / What do Poles think of how they are treated in Germany, in comparison to the Muslim migrants [181]

Not for nothing Pali terrorists chose Munich for their Olympic massacre...they always had firm friends with the german RAF, training and educating them...

That and no actual police force at the time who were legally able to do anything. Just local Bavarian cops with no anti-terrorist training.

I read recently a hijab muslima was swearing on the Quran as she was brought into a gov job

You read wrongly. There is no religious oath for civil servants. When police and army take their oath (or affirmation if they are not religious), it is not sworn on any book.

It has two forms (you can choose which) and the wording cannot be changed:

"I, [full name], do swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty King Charles, his heirs and successors, according to law. So help me God."

Under the Oaths Act 1978, individuals may make a solemn affirmation instead of swearing a religious oath:

"I, [full name], do solemnly, sincerely and truly declare and affirm that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty King Charles, his heirs and sucessors, according to law.."

People taking government jobs do not however do this. Only Members of Parliament, Members of the House of Lords, Judges and certain court officers, Members of the armed forces and Police Officers .

Off-Topic / Eurovision - Today I will be ashamed to be Polish [583]

russia, bvtthurt about being kicked out of Eurovision decided to revive

Dire, wasn't it.

after performing asked the judges to not award him any points.... as if he'd get any points....

Apparently the points system for judging was particularly opaque. 'Scientific' is what the r*SSians called it.

Duc Phuc (make your own joke

Do people say "fúck a duck" where you're from? It's a little old fashioned down my way, something that granny would have said in 1925 but still quite funny.

They've gone down the table for accident stats which is a plus. Poland hasn't been at the top of the list for a few years now.

The driving is still often very poor though.

Polonia / What do Poles think of how they are treated in Germany, in comparison to the Muslim migrants [181]

the main Arab leader in the Palestine region during WWII, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, was a very enthusiastic henchman of Hitler

Yes. The far right often jump on the Palestine bandwagon as a disingenuous means of expressing their antisemitism.

Whatever the person's own personal politics (and it could be one of several political currents), it was a spectacularly crass and exhibitionistic thing to do in Germany given the history and the media attention it would bring.. Someone centrist or on the left is likely to be far more sensitive since it's quite obvious what the reaction to putting a "Judenrein" sign in any window in Germany.

Doubtless he'll be prosecuted.

migration

That won't change in a hurry, and issues with the ECHR are currently being addressed.

atomic power

We'll be happy to sell them some SMRs.

russia

Unfortunately, there are people on both left and right there who have a strange sympathy for r*SSia. And in the east (and not only the east) probably a considerable number of r*SSian asset in their public life.

Jews are not allowed here

Same difference.

He knows the history there.

a Palestinian flag in the window and specifically said it was about Gaza

That does not make it less bad.

But let's lose our collective minds about that

It is entirely reasonable for the media and the public to express concern about a Judenfrei/Judenrein sign in a shop window in Germany.

much more pressing problems in Germany

The return of fascism?

just imagine it would had been a rightist....even worse....an AfD sympathizer!

Maybe he is. The article said nothing about his political views.

He knows the history in that country.

Hopefully he will be prosecuted with the full force of the law.

Maybe there is a place that has a better one than I had in Berlin. Maybe

You'd have liked Theo's. As I say, go to any Cypriot-owned one, or even some of the newer Turkish ones that are popping up nowadays.

the quality is a bit variable

It can be. Usually the Indian ones (or the Syrian/Egyptian ones; there are a few in Warsaw) aren't as good as the others. I tend only to go to one nowadays.

A shame you can't see how much of a 'kids throwing toys out of the pram' vibe you give

Probably because it's not there.
