Language / Instrumental case in the Polish language. Am I understanding it right? [68]

"I dressed myself the same way a ghost dresses itself"

Yes.

Are there any other instrumental case (and also any locative case) infinitives other than instrumental case "Być"

I don`t know. This abstract linguistic theory certainly surpasses my knowledge of the language. hahaha Someone else might know, though.

Byłem duchem w/na Halloween"

Funny but such a shortcut is fully correct. W means at the time of Halloween. Na suggests the event or party.

Ubrałem się jak duch w/na Halloween"?

Nope, that would mean I dressed like a ghost in English. The correct version is: Przebrałem się za ducha.

I must admit I haven`t appreciated his music - it is too modern while I am a traditionalist who likes old classical music of 18th-19th centuries.

News / Throwing away the constitution in Poland? [626]

Hopefully, the Senate will block it.

Or not? The new unconstitutional law will be passed and then the EU and Supreme Court will declare it null and void. The elections will have to be repeated. How about such a scenarion?

Study / Various education and school issues in Poland. Opinions, stories, controversies. [1006]

We're not using it because the parents are... Well, you know what they're like.

Well, I think it depends on a school. My kids go to a private one too but it is the staff who rule, not parents. During that first two weeks of online teaching, kids were flooded with school and home work but parents didn`t complain. Yes, they did, but in private, not officially to the headteacher. :):)

We dropped the virtual classroom idea

I see it works very well in my kids` school. When I hear noises like stomping on the floor in one of the rooms, I know they are having a PE class. :):) And the attendance is checked every day. Funny. My youngest son is delighted - he just got a B in physics after doing well in an online test. hahaha

However, from what I can read online, such schools are rare.

About grading - the regulations state that it's up for discussion between teachers and the headteacher,

Well, we were told to think about it. Fortunately, I already had some grades when the plague started. Now I am going to grade one or two home assignments from each student and that`s all.

I watched the press conference, and all I can say is that it's going to end in tears

Yes, it is just like you said. :):)

I've seen some materials prepared by my colleagues

Yes, that is the Polish school - assign as much as possible and then we will see how many are able to cope with it. hahaha

the elections will be called off.

Don`t tell us what they will or not do. Tell us sth else: what is your personal opinion on putting off elections?

News / How hard will Poland be hit by the economic crisis? [116]

Yes, and it is not the end of the increase. The National Bank has just "printed" 19 billion zlotys to get the anti-crisis shield running.

News / How hard will Poland be hit by the economic crisis? [116]

Rumour has it that in autumn 2020 Poland will face an economic collapse, with 10% unemployment. Allegedly, the current government has ordered analysis which predict a catastrophe. Of course, the results are kept secret not to cause panick.

Many people are already jobless, especially those employed in services. And the prospects are very gloomy for them. The government has passed "the anti-crisis shield for economy" but it is widely critisized as not sufficient and with too many loopsholes.

Yes. lol, why didn`t you quote my full words? Here you are, so that you don`t forget about them next time: when you see you have lost a debate, you resort to lies. Apart from being a Kremlin troll, you are a mental and moral loser, told you many times. You can`t lose with dignity.:):)

The PiS government has been making a steady attack on the rule of law

The latest case: at night, PiS, thanks to its majority in the Parliament, decided to introduce crucial changes in election voting system. They are trying to run May elections at all cost.

Delph, I would like to comment but I am busy preparing our professional online teaching which is starting tomorrow. In short: video conferences and E-textbooks/workbooks but also youtube videos for those who won`t be able to attend the classes at a set time. Now I am registering my students` accounts onto two e-platforms, over 100 people. It is pure madness. It seems I will work more than in regular school. But our principal told us we would be paid overtime. :):)

See you soon and remember, Semper Fidelis!!! hahahaha

History / What was the general Polish opinion of Germany/Germans between 1920-39? [4]

That was 90 years ago. Hardly anyone remembers it.

I think the OP expects us to provide sources on people`s opinion at the time. He/she doesn`t want to consult eyewitnesses from the period.

to how the general people regarded Germany at that time.

They regarded Germany as the most hostile country to Poland and Poles. Germans couldn`t forget they lost their Eastern lands which had once belonged to Poland and were retaken by Poles after successful Risings in 1919 and 1921. Throughout the whole interwar period German politics towards Poland was marked by attempts to regain the lost territory which finally led to the outbreak of WW2.

It is natural Poles didn`t have a choice and had to view Germany as an staunch enemy.

Actually, this one topic - drugs - has never interested me too much. I don`t know why. I only read books about drug-addicts. One of the best:We, children from Zoo Station. Excellent read. I read it at uni and again a few times later on.

Language / Cultural disparities shown through Polish and English languages [195]

Another one:

In English it is required to use titles with surnames: Ms Shufflebottom, Mrs Crankshaw, Mr Haggard. etc. In Polish it is also normal but after some time, when the relation lasts longer time but it is still formal, they can switch to a title with the first name: Ms Dżesika, Mrs Grażyna, Mr Janusz. It sounds nicer and creates warmer atmosphere. A boss to the secretary: Mr Janusz, can you stay a few extra hours coz I need you to handle this new correspondence?

Does it mean the English are/were more formal while Poles casual?

There won't be any video conferencing,

That is already taking place in my two kids` school - they had such lessons today - German, English, history, PE. The son used their PC and the daughter her Ipod. They were very glad coz that e-platform allowed them to talk to mates, too.

Critical point - there will be no grading.

That is strange coz MEN issued regulations which also include grading and I am still wondering how to do it, especially in the final year which is going to finish school in April.
