Gordon Lightfoot??? - never heard of him.

The only group you mentioned which I heard of was the Smiths and Jesus and Mary C. The rest is completely unknown.

Leonard Cohen was lucky because a Polish music journalist liked him and promoted Cohen`s music on the Polish radio. I liked it too.

recognize children in trouble from abusive or dysfunctional families... are you okay with that disappearing?

That`s an important issue but if the government decrees no physical schools, who am I to fight the idea? I am just dust which will turn into ash. They always know better. :)

It shouldn't be left to regional authorities - it would create totally unfair decisions

This decision certainly has its pros and cons.

this young couple who had Iron Maiden play at their wedding in 1984.

Yes, playing concerts behind the Iron Curtain hugely contributed to groups` popularity in Poland.

One of these PRL fixations I never came close to understanding (Leonard Cohen and sea shanties) tcompletely forgettable to me...

No, maf, Marillion and Leonard Cohen weren`t forgettable. And quite a lot of people knew and liked sea shanties - I was a water boy scout myself and we went to sailing camps in Mazury lakes so shanties were a must for us.

As for Marillion, they were a very popular group in Britain so it wasn`t purely Polish fascination. I still remember when in 1986 I asked my uni mate to lend me their cassette so that I could listen and copy Punch and Judy which I liked a lot. But generally theirs wasn`t my genre so I cursed like a soldier when Gaszyński played their progressive rock album instead of decent metal.

And they were aware of this popularity coz in 1987 they gave 6 concerts in Poland and made a film about it: Behind the Iron Curtain.

One foreign group whose popularity you may not have understood was British Classix Nouveaux. In Britain they didn`t go beyond club gigs while in Poland they had large audiences at big concerts. But they did come to Poland in mid 1980s so they were popular. And Polish TV promoted them - smooth soft pop/rock which suited the taste of an average viewer/listener very well. They even appeared in a Polish film.

Yes, we were young, brave and innocent. It was later when life corrupted us. buhahahaha

it was considered a hymn of the generation so you must have listened to it once in a while.

There were a few hymns of our generation in fact. Two or 3 of them were created by another cult group - Perfect

Autobiography - it has a long text and I don`t want to quote too much so I refer you to the site where I get most translations from:

Not only at the market. At regular shops, too. I remember a posh music shop in the Old Town. They had Western stereos and records but prices were astronomical. So, with my metal friends, 3 of us, we bought two cassettes. We drew straws who was going to keep them - I got the one with Def Leppard, probably Pyromania from 1983 and Madonna`s Like a Virgin on the other side. My friend was luckier coz he got the cassette with Accept`s Restless and Wild, with their cult song which I always loved- Fast as a Shark.

However, if you missed a radio programme, the chances also were you wouldn`t find it in shops or even a flea market coz Gaszyński often presented less popular groups. It was easy to purchase Iron Maiden, ACDC, Judas Priest, Metallica, Black Sabbath etc coy thez were always at the top. There was a problem with Pretty Maids or Running WIld. Not to mention such niche groups as Rose Tattoo. And I still remember Rose Tattoo`s album from the radio.

the broadcast times were scheduled to try to keep young potential troublemakers (to the regime) off the streets

hahaha funny, but not true. Like in a joke

"Is it true" the listener asks "that in Moscow, at the Red Square, Moskvich cars are being given for free?"

It is absolutely true" the host replies "just not in Moscow but in Leningrad, not at the Red Square but at the Revolution Square, not cars but bikes, and not given for free but stolen for free."

Yes, they tried to keep off, but regular kids and not troublemakers, and not off streets but off church going and not by rock music but by attractive Teleranek programs on Sunday morning. hahahaha

In my case, Marek Gaszyński always played heavy metal (once he played Marillion, stupid m..the..f...er hahaha) on Tuesdays at 6 pm.

Work / Polish nurses, gender and salary [32]

Yes, with such long hours, one can earn 8000. If she likes it, she can even last a few years in it.

The evolution of my stereos below - Polish manufacturing. They weren`t the best available at the time - when I visited my friends` houses, many had more sophisticated and expensive players. But I was happy with mine and never complained - it played metal music and that was enough.

I still keep them in my basement and garage - except Finezja which was a gift to my cousin when I bought the Mini Tower.

  • 1980 - 1981 Grundig license

  • 1981- 1983 Daria

  • 1983 - 1986 Finezja

  • 1986 + Mini Tower

Well, I didn`t complain. Better cassettes than nothing, right? :):) I don`t think other Warsaw Pact countries aired this kind of Western music on their national radioes. Probably Hungary only. If I had lived in Romania, I would have had to listen to Cauceascu`s speeches every day. hahaha

It'll be bring unemployment if teachers aren't careful..

Actually, I don`t care. I will manage, as always in my life, with God`s help and my own persistence. :)

think about that and all the implications that come from it very carefully.

No, it is a pessimist view while I prefer to look on the bright side of life. hahaha
Besides, I won`t work too long now - it is closer for me than further. I have already spent 30 years in education. That`s one of the reasons I don`t care

Are nurses paid that bad still?

Now statistically they earn over 5000 PLN. In reality, about 3200 net unless they work very long hours.

I didn`t have that problem cos the Polish Radio illegally presented all latest albums

Another metal group was KAT (Hangman) but I didn`t listen to it too much coz they released their first single in 1985 and it was nothing special. Soon they evolved into thrash metal and satanic message in lyrics and lived off various scandals so that completely put me off.

Still standard metal music from their first single - The Last Tabor

History / Cursed soldiers controvercy - not all Poles respect them [320]

It survived because Moscow ruled over Poland - not because Poles supprted it

Yes, ruled with Polish hands. Martial law by Jaruzelski was a pure Polish design and implementation. Was Jaruzelski and his henchmen Jews? No, he came from Polish nobility.

hat's like saying Poland was partitioned because Poles wanted their country divided.

But it was true. Many elites didn`t mind partitions as long as their estates and property in Eastern Poland were protected under Russian rule.

A new idea by the government. The situation will be evaluated by local governments in each county(powiat) and they will decide if the schools and other public facilities shgould be open in September.

I read a lof ot opinions by virus pandemic experts and they are unanimous that with the current rate of infections coming back to school would be very risky, some say madness.

including my favourite Scottish tradition - the punishment homework ;

Do they have to draw medieval Scottish warriors in their copybooks? haha

Common rooms are usually only for the oldest kids in high school.

Wow, good to know.

We had a lot of them - I had something like 6 windows throughout the week,

Another wow. In Polish school it is out of question - students mustn`t have any gaps between lessons.

Who's going to have more power - 5 Jews leading the organization or the 20 Poles

Of course not, 20 Poles had more power. Jewish leaders issued orders but without their Polish stooges, they wouldn`t have been able to do anything. It was lower rank Poles who did the dirtierst jobs. I read Cardinal Wyszyński`s diary from the time when he was imprisoned by stalinists in 1950s - he was watched over by Polish simpletons, mostly from the countryside.

If such simpletons hadn`t chosen to serve as communist stooges, Jews at the top would have been helpless.

The post WW2 government is no different. Every other position was held by a Jew.

Yes, true. But later it changed gradually and in 1968 Jews were expelled. However, communism still lasted coz it was supported and defended by ethnic Poles.

History / What do Poles owe to Jews? [593]

Nope.

king mackerel is one of four fishes that children and pregnant women should avoid due to high levels of methylmercury found in these fish and the consequent risk of mercury poisoning.

Never mind.

Back on topic. I just learnt that Kamil Baczyński, a WW2 poet and AK soldier, died in Warsaw Rising, was half Jewish.

A song performed by Ewa Demarczyk with Baczyński`s poem as lyrics

Bullshit. Jews made up the majority of UB/SB.

Wrong.

and held half of the managerial positions.

True.

Now think hard and do the maths. Does half top management positions equal the majority of UB/SB???

Of course not.

You mentioned 11 surnames from top positions. The problem is that UB/SB consisted of thousands of functionaries. As far as I remember, over 20.000.

Please, don`t argue coz your opinion is wrong and the truth is that over 90% UB/SB was ALWAYS ethnic Poles.

The Jews brought about Communism while the Poles opposed it.

Some opposed, some supported. There was balance in nature, as always.

I never said all Jews are bad. I said that Jews ****** over Poland multiple times and continue to demand billions

But the logic of your statement is that all Jews demand billions. In result, they are all bad.

that formed the majority of the UB/SB

Nope, 90% of the whole institution was always over 90% ethnic Poles. We already talked about it, with proofs, in another thread.

it was Jews and their pawns.

Yes, so what? Poles weren`t so innocent in the past, either. Does it mean Czechs should dislike all Poles today because of Polish invasions? Of course not, so please, don`t use such generalisations coz they are harmful and unfair.

No just what you've said...

Oh, I see, you want to remove all my posts but keep all other. But why? Because you think so? That`s too little. How are my posts and opinions in them worse than yours? The fact you don`t like them doesn`t mean they are wrong. Simple. :)

I speak on behalf of my own experiences, those of my Polish family, Polish friends, Polish co-workers

You have your experiences, while I have mine. I have been to the USA and it was Jews who helped me the most in the recession of 1990s. The same with my flatmates. Also, I met a few Jews here in Poland, during cultural festivals or youth exchanges. Very positive people.

So, please, don`t tell me all Jews are bad coz I can only smile at it.

I didn`t have that problem cos the Polish Radio illegally presented all latest albums so people could easily record them onto cassettes. I had a lot of them, practically most with metal rock.

BTW, talking about metal, there was one more important group apart from TSA.

Turbo

Their biggest hit was the amazing ballad Grown-up Children 1982 - it was considered a hymn of the generation so you must have listened to it once in a while.

1 st stanza
They've taught us rules and dates
They've hammered us wisdom into our heads
They've repeated what we can or not
They've convinced what's good or bad

Refrain
Grown-up children have grudge (grief)
Against lame (poky) recipe (formula) for this world
Grown-up children have grudge
That someone has stolen so much from their life

Real Estate / False advertising? Poland rental property advice. [34]

Unfortunatately, there are still huge gaps in the logic of the whole story. That is why I still claim it is not Poland, but Turkey and you translated somebody`s old post from Arabic into English. Ha!

All who believed it are old fools. hahaha

I arrived to find that the property has not been cleaned and is filthy

So, your arrived at the property alone, without the landlord or the agent who had arranged the place to you. In Poland the agency representative always travels with the client to the new location. Where did you get the keys from? Strange.

I have replaced it only to find the area has terrible reception

The outskirts of Gdańsk and terrible reception in middle class surroundings. Strange.

You also said a few contractors/professionals have come to see the house. How did you communicate - did they all speak English?

Why do you seek amateur help in a discussion forum if consulting an English speaking lawyer in Gdańsk on this matter would cost you maximum 200 PLN?

What is this real estate agency you used? Tell us its name and I will call them and ask if they really perform such scams on foreigners. We will know within a few minutes if this is true or not.
