Life / Conflicting views about life in Poland? [45]

Could it be due to Katyn and all the German camps?

Katyn and horrors of German occupation are probably a source of compassion vibes. I can`t imagine any other.

Food / Halal Meat in Bydgoszcz [16]

OP, Poland won't be exporting any more halal meat.

This still needs to be approved by Senate and President, so don`t be so hasty.

1. The location must be local to Bydgoszcz City.

There is Poland Halal company in Bydgoszcz - a producer or wholesaler.

Language / IS "MURZYN" word RACIST? [686]

Negative connotations come from social interactions and personal experiences.

Yes, indeed.

Same with the word "Nigg3r"

What about Polack? This the term that our dissatisfied Pol Am friends use about native Poles in the forum. No wonder Polacks like you and Lenka Bell are so confused about American politics all the time.

Busha and it seems to mean " master" or "boss"

Yes, but it is basza - it meant a top official in old Turkish Empire.

Feedback / Polish forums members - please stop being agressive and dishonest. What a waste of potential. [48]

you are acting foolishly right here, do you believe Internet anonymity? lol!

More threats?? hahaha

expect unexpected.

hahaha Darling, I have expected the unexpected from your sort since the day I became a member here. I got used to it already. Your threats don`t work on me. Do you really believe you can intimidate me into silence? Even on the debris of the house you are going to burn down I will still post in the forum and tell the truth about fascists and others.

Taunting people

Calling an arsonist Mr Arsonist is not taunting - it is telling the truth, like I mentioned before.

I would actually like to sit down with him and buy him a cold beer someday.

Full of poison most probably. I would be careful, Vincent.

Feedback / Polish forums members - please stop being agressive and dishonest. What a waste of potential. [48]

I have been suspected for a while I suspended for calling some moron - a moron.

Not only that, darling. The real reason for your warning and short suspension was that you threatened another poster to burn his house down only because he holds different views. You are not only an arsonist but a potential murderer, too, coz the house is inhabited.

However I have no indention whatsoever to follow any rules but mine. Hereby I take back that promise.

Very nice. But next time don`t tell us about the need to respect universal values in this world. We shall remind you they are your own sick values and rules, Mr Arsonist.

Life / Tap Water quality in Poland [44]

[moved from]

Wow, I had no idea that a few water supply stations in Poland use local freshwater mussels to monitor the quality of water. They immediately close their shells when water is contaminated and the alarm signal is sent to the headquarters. Funny.

Law / Karta Polaka to Poland's Permanent Residence [6]

The processing time may take even a few months. How many exactly - nobody is able to answer this question.

As for all other doubts concerning the permanent residence, you should check other sources. E.g, this one describes difficulties one can run into while trying to obtain their card

Apart from the castle (only one wing is left, the two other ones were blown up by the Swedes in the 17th century)

Yes, exactly but it is still in a much better shape than those pathetic ruins in Nowy Sącz - whenever I pass them, I am overwhelmed with immense pity.

Language / Which preposition for 'at'? [58]

you're trying to see a language as a set of words that can be translated one to one between diferent languages.

It works in 50% of utterances while doesn`t in the remaining 50%. There is a perfect balance in nature, as usual.

Life / Are Polish roads really this bad? [237]

Poland has become a fully European country at last - last week I was driving on a newly renovated urban road - the surface was perfectly flat and smooth, and the manhole covers were precisely level with the ground. Wow! I was really impressed - after so many years of futile attempts, those road workers have finally learnt their fekking job. I had been waiting for it for so long.

USA, Canada / MAJEWSKI RE-ELECTED HAMTRAMCK MAYOR [4]

Karen Majewski, Pol-Am historian and archivist, has been re-elected mayor of Hamtramck,

She was still the mayor in 2019.

telegramnews.net/story/2019/07/11/news/hamtramck-mayor-karen-majewski-embraces-the-citys-diversity/693.html

Now Muslims of various ethnicites (Bengalis, Bosnians, Pakistanis, Kosovar Albanians, Yemenis et al) are gaining ground.

But Majewski says they all integrate well and contribute to the town`s prosperity with their diversity.

Majewski is also proud of the way residents have nourished the city's identity as a diverse and welcoming community to everyone. "We live on thirty-foot lots, we smell each other's cooking, we hear each other's music, we hear each other's conversations, we sit on our front porches and watch our neighbors go by," she says. Cultural diversity is just outside your front door in this city. Majewski adds that there are roughly 26 languages spoken in the city's two square miles.

Language / WHICH AUNT IS THE WUJENKA IN POLISH? [9]

Come on people, these names are hardly ever used in contemporary Polish, it's just wuj/ciotka

This means that family relations have become less complex over decades. Is it good or bad?

They just point out it is all but non-existent in modern Poland...

Not only modern. Also ancient. Busia must come from Babusia which in Poland is replaced with babcia.

Long ago, in 1970s, I read a kids` book about twin siblings and their family with the main protagonist of grandma who tries to adopt a small boy without telling others first. They called her Bunia, from babunia.

Food / Traditionally-Polish salads, help needed [49]

but at least 30 of the people eating it will be Polish, and mostly over 50, so should fit well with Polish tastes.

To suit all their tastes, it should be mild and contain ingredients which Poles use every day: typical veg, chicken, ham, egg, cheese.

In August we attended a wedding party and they offered three kinds of salad, so guests had a choice. I immediately rejected the salad with pasta - a new invention which didn`t exist in my childhood and youth so I am still not accustomed to it.

History / AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A FORMER COMMUNIST born in Poland [7]

AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A FORMER STALINIST

Hmm, I read a few extended interviews with old communists published as books. Interesting readings about those times in general, but I have always had a suspicion they try to whiten their role, play down their mistakes or abuse of power and switch the blame onto others. Nothing new, then - Nazis who survived Nurnberg also did it in their diaries.
