I am not defending the Russians at all , if there is any evidence that they had a hand in causing this crash , then i will condem them as loud as anyone else , but there just isn,t , well none thats been revealed yet...???
As for Poles having a distrust of Russians , do you think its not true...??
Do you know of any nation on this planet that was not at war with somebody having some of its people accuse another country of deliberatly assasinating the passengers of a crashed airliner....???? I don,t...

What i meant was , its kind of a Polish tradition to distrust the Russians , so Tusk is maybe just following that tradition , rather than actually finding anything wrong in the report...

Sadly , the pilot has the last word when it comes to the question of safety , and no matter what pressures he is under he is supposed to make the right decision....
Hopefully all the other people who contributed to this disaster will be named and shamed also , and the lessons will be learned...
Many mistakes were made...the pilot just made the last one...
Worst case scenario is that the pilot gets all the blame
Sadly , the pilot has the last word when it comes to the question of safety , and no matter what pressures he is under he is supposed to make the right decision....

They definatly need to look at the way things are done in the air force...
The crash report into the accident that involved the Polish air force Casa transport aircraft concluded that the crash was caused by the crew trying to land in bad weather at an airfield that did not have good facilities for bad weather landings...
Whilst looking out of the windows , trying to spot the runway they lost height , and flew into the ground..!
Does this sound familiar...???
And I wonder if Poland is going to have the guts to admit that there are serious problems within the Air Force?

The pilot who refused the presidents orders to land in a dangerous place on a previous flight was actually given an award by the air force for doing his duty under duress...
The president wanted to have him charged...
I am sure this pressure the pilot was under was a factor in his decision to take the risk....but he should have resisted this pressure...
The pilot had the chance to take a risk and please his boss who was on board the aircraft , or screw up an important meeting for his country by playing it safe...
Not an easy position to be in , and its understandable he took the risk..
He should never have been put in this position , if the flight had taken off earlier they could have diverted and still made the meeting... The pilot was not the only one to screw up on this mission...his was only the last mistake in a series of errors...

No matter what any orders said...the pilot is responsible for the safety of the aircraft , and he alone makes the decisions affecting safety...
It does not matter who is telling you to land...if the pilot decides its unsafe , which in this case it clearly was , then his duty is to abort the landing and land elsewhere....
Which is somewhat of a problem, given that the pilot was only following orders.
No matter what any orders said...the pilot is responsible for the safety of the aircraft , and he alone makes the decisions affecting safety...

This latest incident looks like an engine failure , unless it was something weird like sabotage ...?
Even Rolls Royce have engine failures sometimes.. Its a bit strange that the aircraft exploded in flames so quickly though , the engines are all in the tail section , and the fuel tanks are in the wings and center section , you would have thought it would have taken a bit longer for the whole aircraft to become a fireball...?

The Tu 154 actually has a good record in terms of the number of aircraft built , it compares well with any other western aircraft of this type...
Many of the accidents that have involved this aircraft have been due to the fact that it very often operates in countries where weather conditions make flying dangerous , some have been shot down in countries where a conflict has been going on....
You won,t find many accidents where the cause has been some mechanical failure of the aircraft...
It is however quite an old aircraft now , and most airlines using them are replacing them with more up to date machines...
There have been 39 fatal accidents involving this aircraft type....most of them not caused by any malfunction of the aircraft...

An aircraft of the same type , a Tupolev tu 154 has just exploded and burst into flames at a Siberian airport whilst waiting to fly to Moscow...
Looks like an engine fire...thankfully most of the people on board got out ok , two died..

Genealogy / Do Polish people have big noses? [450]
Since this thread started i have been looking at Polish noses on the telly....yes , i have seen one or two rather beak like pointed noses on Polish women , but far more rather small cute noses...
I think my nose is maybe a little bigger than the usual , but i have never been mistaken for a Pole... Even before i speak i am usually sussed out as being non Polish...
So... no , i don,t think having a big sneck is a Polish trait...

The latest revelation from the presidents brother is that he says that while he recognised his brothers body in Moscow , he did not recognise the body he saw in Poland , and is convinced not all the body parts were his brothers....
Is this guy for real...? why has he waited until now to say this , after the burial...?
Is he just afraid its not been in the news for an hour or two..?
The man is obsessed , and needs to see a specialist....
The whole thing is turning into a farce...!

They can be fun machines , and being a 4 x 4 they don,t get stuck so often..
The best small Russian 4 x 4 i ever drove was an old Gaz 69 the Jeep they used before the Uaz came out , really good off road....
The only problem with Russian stuff is the poor quality of materials used , and the Gaz had an engine that was not very good...The one i drove had a Merc diesal engine in it , a common mod , and a friend in Poland has one with a Peugeot diesal motor in.....
If you look at russianmilitarytrucks.com you can find out a lot of info on Uaz machinery...

Ha...as it happens you are right about that...i have not bought any tanks yet , but a German friend bought a Russian military truck from a Polish dealer that was not quite what it was supposed to be....

A Panzer is a tank , Panzer is the German word for a tank well acually its short for Panzerkamphwagon...
But i am as guilty...i used to call it the Bolshoi ballet , untill i found out that Bolshoi means ballet..!
AND ..whats wrong with a Polish or Russian tank..they are cheap enough these days...bit expensive on fuel and parts tho....

If any of us on the forum want to sell a car , we will be bringing it to you...!
I remember DNZ placing an advert to get rid of his little Maluch , he did not want any money for it , it was free to anyone who wanted it...
A polish guy who rang up asked if it had winter tyres on it.. No replied DNZ , just normal ones...Oh , sez the guy , if you put winter tyres on it , i will take it..!
Needless to say ,DNZ did not go to the trouble and expense of putting winter tyres on the car before giving it free to this guy..its now in my garage...
If any of us on the forum want to sell a car , we will be bringing it to you...!

They usually want to sell you stuff at way over what its worth , but if you are selling anything its more or less worthless and they want you to fill it with petrol and put new tyres on it before giving it them as a gift...!
and my last car was sold for the full asking price.

Its pretty certain that three engines did not suffer mechanical failure all at the same time , so it has to be a lack of fuel due to contamination or freezing...or unbelievably somebody forgot to fill it up before take off...!
