'engagement' in the context of social media?

Normally it would be 'zaangażowanie'. If that doesn't fit, then define 'engagement' in the context of social media? What does it mean in plain English, not geek-speak?!

Genealogy / Polish equivalent of "Jessie"? [48]

Czeslawa

The lingustically accurate translation of Czesława into English is Ceslava from the Latin. But many such people chose something they thought to be close like Chessie or even Chelsea.

Same with Czesław. official transaólation = Ceslaus, but uisually they chose Chester often shortened to Chet.
Other popular Polish misnomers include: Bolesław > Bill, Władyłsaw > Walter, Stanisław > Stanley, Bronisław > Bruno, Zdzisław > Jesse, Hieronim > Harry, Bogdan > Bob, Wiesław > Wesley, Stanisława > Stella or Estelle, Bronisława > Bernice, Władysława > Lottie or Laddie, Pelagia > Pearl, Jadwiga > Harriet or Hattie....

I listen to plenty of Poles, just not the type that believes

Every country has its cynics, horse-blinkered PC types, intolerant Church-bashers Polonophobes, Western wannabes and assorted defenders of PO ancien régime
à la KOD. Rest assured that menagerie constitute but a small and unrepresentative minority. You have yet to listen to the heartbeat of the Polish nation. One wonders whether a genetic alien not steeped in the Polish language, lore, legend and belief system can ever achieve that level of ethnic awareness?

Take every each side but Polish

Spot on! And this is hardly a one-off situation but rather par for the course!. One cannot help but notice that over the years the BB gang, aka as the Anglo-expat tag team, will always take the non-Polish side in any controversy or historical row with Jews, Lithuanians, Germans, Middle Eastern refugees and most everyone else. Probably also with the Tartars of Podlasie if some dispute emerged. That is called practical polonophobia.

quote on April 1

There's a difference betweeen holidng an anniversary gathering or even monthly ones. When fanatical agitators herd crowds into the streets on a weekly basis that causes commotion, disrupts normal traffic, disorganises nomral people's lives as well as requiring street closures, rerouting traffic and police protection at the taxpayers' expense. But what do the KOD creeps care! They only want to get back into power and will go to the costliest and most preposterous lengths to achieve their goal, even if it means engaging in sabotage and undermining Poland's international image.

weekly demonstrations

Every glib demagogue can get people into the streets at the drop of a hat. The Nazis and commies never had a problem with that. Does that prove said demogogue and his flock of sheepish followers right? Decibels and compliant media like the Michnik rag and TVN only show that some agenda is heavily bankrolled (by Soros, the Kremlin et al?!).

Pole sides with those who defend the constitution

Absolute bollocks and quite the opposite of what Prof. Kik found. He meant Poles side not with those attacking the PiS governemtn -- KOD, ex-SB types, Petru, PO, Michnik et al -- but with the besieged government. So don't feel bad that as an Anglo-alien you don't udnerstand what makes Poles tick. Kik conntends that the KOD-style oppositon also do not undertsand the bulk of their compatriots. To repeat: "Poles are fed up with liberalism and the mainstream." PiS is neither, as you well know.

common criminals

Too bad you don't read Polish because you could read up on PO's 500 scams, con games and muck-ups. Then you'd see what common criminals are really like.

KODerasts

Despite the unrelenting waves of anti-governemnt attacks, the latest CBOS poll shows that PiS enjoys more support than Petru and PO combined, and Kukiz has improved his showing as well. According to politcal scientist Prof. Kazimeirz Kik, "Poles are fed up with liberalism and the mainstream. The opposition simply do not know Poles, they cannot understand why average Poles sympathise with the attacked rather than with the attackers."

loyal to the queen

But simple decency requires them to be loyal to the democratically elected government and officially reconcile themselves to their electoral defeat. Instead, they keep trying to push the clock back to when they enjoyed a power monopoly

and elbow their way back to the feed trough by hook or by crook. Tough luck, Charlie! Maybe in 8 years they'll get another crack at it, but more likely than not they'll go the way of the UD, UW, SLD and Palikot.

"loyalty"

Loyal oppositon is a British concept applied to opposition parties in the legislature to indicate that the non-governing parties may oppose the actions of the sitting cabinet while remaining loyal to the source of the government's power.

The KODerasts (KODeraści) and their ilk are prepared to tarnish the country's image, sabotage the government and destabilise the state in pursuit of their overriding aim -- return to power.

Kupis

KUPIS: probably traceable in Poland to the verb kupić (to buy); possibly a local alternative to kupiec (merchant, trader). As a toponymic nick it could have been used for an inhabitant of the villages of Kupisk or Kupiski in Podlasie.

Attacks on the rule of law

When one is in media res, one often does not see the big picture and full ramifications. The protests purport to be against violations of the rule of law and in defence of democracy. But Poland is one of a great many countires in a world full of rows, controversies and turmoil. To the outside world what will remain after the dust has setled is Poland plus or Poland minus, stable or unstable, a place to visit and do business with or not -- not this or that party or specific issue. In other words, the country's overall image is what counts, and the opposition's dogged, hysterical and ostentatious overkill has gone the extra mile to undermine it.

The Michnik mafia will try to turn things round and claim that the government is solely to blame, even though everyone knows there are at least two sides to every controversy. Those who lauded the Venice Commission's opinion somehow failed to heed what it's leader advised: Since the problem started with illicit appointments by two successive parliaments, this is an issue which should be resolved in Poland by all the poltical forces in parliament through dialogue and compromise. But Schetyna preferred to ignore that advice and go off on yet another snitching tour to conspire with Merkel and pressure the EU to issue an anti-Polish resolution.

Do you ever remember

Everyone knows the PO/PSL government simply ignored numerous TK rulings that did not suit their policies. Also the countless scams, acts of negligence, ill-chosen and/or mismanaged projects, oldboy cronyism have cost Poland tens of billions of złotys. But it's not what one does but what gets out into the public realm that counts. Under the protection of the sly and crafty Michnik mafia, PO negatives got downsized, swept under the rug or red herrings were dragged out to confuse the issue and take the heat off the ruling Platformers. The Michnikites are good at such tricks and ruses.

Found an excellent summary

Does she emphasise that the current government is functioning in a state of constant, aggressive siege by a ruthless, disloyal oppostion who cannot accept their electoral defeat and will go to all lengths to sabotage the democratically elected government. That said oppositon are discreditng their country in the international area purportedly to badmouth PiS, but the message being sent out into the world depicts Poland as a country in turmoil and a palce best avoided. If the oppsition ever return to power, they will be faced first and foremost with the tarnished national image they themelves have created.

Only the infinitive ending -ć is missing. Also the word order could be improved. It should read:

Language / Niech będzie pochwalony Jezus Chrystus - a religious greeting? [39]

Mokrego Śmigusa Dyngusa!

Happy Easter is Wesołych Świąt, Wesołych Świąt Wielkanocnych or (to add a religious touch) Wesołego Alleluja!
In greeting cards some people add: smacznego jajka or smacznego święconego i mokrego dyngusa or śmigusa dyngusa.
Esp. in eastern rural Poland a two-part greeting is heard:
Chrystus zmartwychwstał! Response: Prawdziwie zmartwychwstał!

Why from abroad? Let people from Poland cash in. Suffice it to re-hire the SB-trained body guards from the Kwaśniewski and Tusk era. Those VIPs made it through their terms without incident.

Yes, there were nobles amongst the bearers of the Furman surname entitled to use the Doliwa coat of arms. Type herb rodowy Doliwa into Google. No record of any Augustyniaks ever making it into the ranks of the szlachta.

SZUMSKI: root-word szum (the sound made by the howling wind, rushing sea, a babbling brook or the murmumr of voices). Most likely originated as a toponymic nick from places such as Szumsko.

Indeed, you and your Anglo-expat ilk and the KOD creeps are all out to humiliate Poland internationally no matter what. They've already snitched and pressured the EU to undermine the Polish government's law-enforcement reform. What's the next target: 500+? Maybe the complaint should be lodged with the UN this time just to give the anti-Polish hysteria more international spread.
