News / Poland's post-election political scene [4080]

I wonder how you would react

I don't publicly proclaim myself to be the leader of a country, one that is trying to turn it into a one party state.

It is 12.15 (past midnight)

They always do this sort of stuff at night. Like when Macierewicz broke into the NATO office.

disabling democratic legislation procedure

Pot. Kettle. Black...

No, I'm only saying that his reaction was understandable

No. The guy's a professional politician, a parliamentarian, one who describes himself as the real leader of Poland. He may well be a malicious snowflake, in which case he should look for another job or retire and stay at home with his cats.

You were trying to destroy him, you're the ones whose are mainly responsible for his death

No. The original translates as "You destroyed him, you murdered him.

The guy has lost it.

don't make stuff up,

So you're pretending he didn't make a deranged and incoherent rant, including allegations of murder? Remember it was filmed live.

Kaczynski's deranged rant has certainly let people see what he's like. Even people who half supported him are getting worried.

Real Estate / Economical room by the month in Lublin? [24]

you will be deported back to your home country at your expense, and will be forbidden from entering any country in the Schengen zone for one year.

This does not happen to Americans in Poland.

they have the right to detain,

My friend in that situation was just asked to declare how much she had earned.

The staff of the so-called president are responsible for his safety, and ultimately the person himself decided to make the journey.

Bizarre that JK is literally screaming murder when people call him out on his dodgy judicial reforms.

Real Estate / Economical room by the month in Lublin? [24]

There's certainly work in Lublin, though not always they best, and you'll need a tefl certificate or other teaching qualification to get anything other than the worst plus citizenship of Poland or another EU country to work legally. Doing private lessons is possible, though hard just to go in cold. Watch out for the tax office if you advertise; they sometimes do entrapment. This happened to a friend (from your country) in Lublin a few years ago.

There are also cheap rooms, though the price generally reflects the quality, and Poles don't generally like to rent by the month. Keep trying with Gumtree and if necessary get a Polish friend to interpret. Don't, just don't, look for one close to the start of the university term.

I'd also suggest looking at a slightly higher price - you'll find somewhere much better.

C -3°

Poland is bitterly cold and has long winters. Great in summer, however in winter it's often below freezing, and tin late winter the streets are often full of half defrosted brown slush with dog turds sticking out until March.

It's obvious the pressure has got to him. He's known for a long time that his project is unsustainable, that his behavior is unstable, that his health is declining and that his advisors are deranged fools.

Not many places he can go from here

It's a shocker, isn't it. And this is the minor back bench politician who describes himself as leader of the country.

He is likely to get far worse over the next few days and weeks.

He not only is a wreck of an individual, he looks like one too

Antoni Macierewicz

I had to pick myself off the floor laughing when I read that, a real tonic. Then again, there are similarities with Napoleon, both are utterly deranged psychopaths.

The obvious one would be Poland's Nobel Laureate and the hero of the Solidarity movement, Lech Wałęsa, though doubtless that would cause one twin to spin in his grave/s and the other to instantly drop down dead and join him.

Tens of thousands of Irish men and women joined the British forces

Indeed. There have been bad times between the two countries, and there has also been (and is) friendship, decency, support and a lot of good people with a foot on both islands. Neither nation is known for being vindictive.

Kaczyński there's a lot of personal vanity involved and a very real desire to earn a place in the history book

Yes. There's also a great deal of delusion, decades of a lifestyle that is frankly bizarre, a heavy dose of magical thinking and enormous sycophancy from those around him. His face on the night he was voted out of office was a picture to behold, and hopefully we will see that same expression soon.

equate howling, shouting, ranting and threats of violence

Hopefully this picture will upload, since I've shrunk the size. Not outside the Royal Castle, however it's so,where we all recognise - very significant given the context.

Indeed, then he'll withdraw Poland from the EU and set up concentratkion camps

Quite possibly, Po, quite possibly.

You mean the candlelit vigil with a pianist playing Chopin?

Raving are the players of the Muppet Show outside the Sejm

I see only dignity there:

Edit. There should be a picture here, however it's not showing for some reason. The picture shows a candlelit vigil outside the Royal Castle, there's a pianist playing Chopin, the large crowd of Poles are mourning the death of democracy in Poland, and abhorring Kavzynski's latest attempt to reintroduce a one party state.

Your raving anti-Semitism? Is that the image of Poland you really want to further?

Probably yes.

There's some great images being named around the world of the protest

They'll rant, chant, rave and blow their silly little plastic horns and then go home and watch the telly or get drunk

You have very little respect for the ordinary Polish citizens who oppose this midnight attempted coup.

One good thing is that the constant protests against the PiS junta show the world that people in Poland aren't just going to lie down and let Kaczynski do what he wants.

I wonder how you'll feel (as a long-term tax evader) when the 5am knocks on the door start to come...

now First Secretary Kaczynski desires courts which will reject the results of any elections which are not to the liking of First Secretary Kaczynski

Basically this.

Plenty of protests today in Warsaw about it.

Very interesting, however as usual you don't actually say anything. Just a weak attempt at insults (which amuse), some playground level low-quality banter and a link to yet another racist video.

Sadly this is actually a reflection of Poland's post election political scene, which deteriorates by the day. Not but what, all observers see this.

You can read thousands of internet comments

Read Stanislaw Lem's famous quote about the internet. It's well enough known around the world and of course is originally in Polish. He mentions you.

Worth saying, Wulky, that your comments in that last post are at the level of a primary school playground. Even making allowances for your level of English, it is in so many ways a mirror of PiS and it's few supporters - basically low information voters, homo sovieticus, followers rather than leaders.

Its a good thing that PiS is going to ably a brush there, maybe.

I doubt the coup will last that long - it looks like the international community, after having woken up some time ago, are now going to take some action.

There you go again, Po.

opposition dragged the proceedings out into the night.

Now you know that isn't true, yet somehow you expect people to believe that outright lie. Remember the matter has been much discussed, much reported by reliable sources.

My cause was eloquently outlined by Trump: God, country and family

That is actually a hilarious statement.

I would add only altruism

You mentioned Trump, an individual who normalises hatred, whose cohorts despise altruism. The same can be said for the authoritarian and pro-totalitarian PiS who do their semi-legal judicial skullduggery in the dead of night.

PIS are simply yet again repeating what First Secretary Kaczynski learned during the commie era

And Po is sadly trying to deflect from this by posting off-topic rubbish about Japanese tourists in Belgium!!

defending the midnight knocks on the door back in the dark days of communism in Poland.

This will happen, it is starting already. As Kaczynski said, "Terraz kurwa my" ("Now it's our f*cking turn")...

just as things were back in the PRL when First Secretary Kaczynski learned about law.

Exactly. Very significant that they did the second bill very sneakily at midnight. Shades of the PRL/USSR style 'midnight knock on the door', and these knocks on the door will I suspect happen very soon.

the government of my home country (PiS) needs a lot of your money for their fat salaries.

Just as the government of my home country (UK) need its 20% of your small money to promote diversity.

It's there in black and white spelt out clearly in the post, no ambiguity, no room for misinterpretation deliberate or otherwise. Btw, google Godwin's Law.

youtr abject hatred for the real Catholic Poland

That would be the Poland I'm a citizen of and you aren't. Since you'd have to explain why you haven't paid a groszy in tax for years. That and the other thing...

The former advantages and priivleges of the fallen elites must be restored at all costs, innit?

Exactly what the PiS junta with their "tears kurwa my" mentality are trying to do. You of all people should be very worried.

No, neo- means 'new' PiS is creating a new nomenklatura and you're in favor of tha

This is exactly what they want, what they planned, what they are trying to do and exactly what post-war Poland's worst president, Lech Kaczynski, meant when he said "teraz kurwa my" ("now it's our f*cking turn").

Hopefully our European Union and other relevant bodies will intervene much more stonglynthanthey have so far to uphold the disappearing rule of law in Poland.

the needs of the Polish peopl

If you think that the 'needs of the Polish people' is a non-independent judiciary directly under the political control of one party, then there is really no hope for you.

Thee is however hope for Poland. This situation has occurred in the past, between 1939-1945 and 1948-1989. Both times, the problem was overcome.

tax bill

If someone is illegally evading tax in Poland, tax that funds schools, roads, children's homes, fire stations, elderly care, police etc, surely there is a moral responsibility for Polish citizens to alert the tax authorities in order that the person's responsibilities are fulfilled. It should be a pretty big outstanding bill now, plus relevant fines.
