Work / Working in Poland without speaking Polish [75]

silly boy.

Great way of leading a conversation.

The burden is on you to prove me wrong

I don't have to prove anything to you. You have given your opinion. I have given you mine. With the exception that I have actually given you some examples. Something you have failed to do. You have just assumed that the OP has no experience although he never mentioned anything about it.

In any case, it is clear that you prefer to paint a negative picture rather than look at reality. I have given you the example of the Canadian girl managing the Irish Mbassy in Krakow. You did not even acknowledge that example.

Anyway, after -

silly boy.

- Discussion over. Good Luck!

Work / Working in Poland without speaking Polish [75]

Exactly. Which means, by default, that he has none.

That is nonsense. Just because he does not share his experience here on a public forum means he has none?

All of your last posts in this thread are based on assumptions.

Work / Working in Poland without speaking Polish [75]

apparently inexperienced Spaniard

He has never said anything about his experience. Where do you get the "inexperienced" from?

Advising the OP to come to Poland in search of summer employment

I would not advise him to do it. But i would also not advise him not to do it. However, your statement -

Pretty much no chance.

- is simply incorrect.

What possible reason could anyone have to hire a Spaniard,

Never been to an Irish Bar in Poland? You will find that the people who frequent those bars, particularly the ones who come for one weekend, would find it more interesting to talk to someone from abroad, just like they are. There is a good chance that they have been to Spain, stories can be exchanged which will pro-long their stay and increase the amount of piwo sold. Also, by employing a non local who only plans to stay for three months, you will most likely not run into an personnel related issues at the end of the 3 months term. If i was a pub landlord in Krakow, I would welcome someone who has no expectations after the three months high season.

You have a bizarre conception of "plenty".

Yes, plenty. Do you even know the Polish bar scene?

Btw. for quite a period of time, Irish Mbassy in Krakow had a Canadian girl as manager. According to your theory, there would have no chance at all of a foreigner with no or hardly any Polish even managing a bar.

Law / Opening a Polish Bank Account by a foreigner in Poland. Recommendations. [299]

Can anyone recommend a local bank? Must have English internet banking,

Bank Millennium has very good internet banking available in Polish and English. I would recommend them.

I guess bank personnel will know English.

You'd think so but this is not a given in Poland.

Law / Getting a Polish drivers license / Poland's residence permit (how long it might take to get?) [28]

much cheaper than in my country.

The cheapest country to get your license in Europe is Ireland. I am German but i have an Irish license. All in all i paid approx. 200 Euro which included the theory test, the fee for the provisional license, the photographs, three driving lessons and the actual driving test. I passed first time round.

If you want it cheap, find a way to proof an address in Ireland, get your provisional license and take the test when you are ready. There are different versions about when you can take the test in Ireland. I took it three months after i got my second "first" provisional.

And actually it's Lodz I'm moving to.

Well, with an Irish license you would feel much at home then :)

Life / Are Poles mentally more Eastern European or Western European? [170]

Texas09, if you ever wonder what it's like for a Pole to deal with a Western foreigner then read my exchange with JollyRomek... Sometimes it's like talking to deaf people.

Because Poles are always right. Have you ever noticed that? And if someone dares to challenge you, it's always someone else's fault. Never the fault of the Polish people though. The fact that you can not integrate in Germany, or the Uk or Ireland....fault of the local people, not the Polish people.

In Poland you are even worse. Can't get a promotion because the "western guy" got it. Must be the fault of the western guy because the poor Poles always get discriminated upon.

You poor poor people.

Life / Are Poles mentally more Eastern European or Western European? [170]

Yes, exactly, that's what I wrote. Texas09 was writing about comparisons used by Poles, not by foreigners.

Of course. You can call Lublin the Paris of Poland as much as you want amongst the Polish people. If you are happy with it, so be it.

*sigh* + *facepalm*

I am not sure what that means.

*smh*

Again....not sure.

Then read with understanding next time.

Difficult for the above reason

In Poland by Poles.

Well there you go. What Poles think in Poland about Polish cities. Hardly what foreigners think about your cities is it?

I have heard the expression "Paris of ........" many times. Poland was never mentioned........

*rolls eyes*

No need to roll your beautiful eyes :)

I've never heard of Kraków as being referred to as "Paris of Poland"

Paulina, you have to learn a lot! Nobody will refer to Krakow as anything else but a good drinking pit. If people are talking about a second Paris they talk about Lviv in Ukraine or Bukarest in Romania, not any city in Poland...........

Love / Are Polish men handsome to you? [182]

on average both men and women are ugly.

It's a good thing that we all have individual taste.

Regarding men, well as a man I tend not to look at their facial structures or other things too much. It simply does not interest me. With regards to how they dress, again in most cases it is something that I do not spend too much time worrying about. Although, i find it odd to work with men who think that wearing red or green trousers to the office is normal. But hey, who am i to judge right?

Regarding women, I find women in Poland or any other Slavic country to be particularly well groomed and feminine (being feminine is not a bad thing in case some activist is reading this). Every day when i walk into the office, when i see the girls come to work i wonder "Surely, they don't wake up like that" and wonder how much time they must invest every morning to look as perfect as they do.

Life / Is a prescription needed to get morning after pills in Poland? [34]

Umm dont one has to be responsible to not drink and drive?

Yes, that is why any responsible person takes precautions i.e. leaving the car at home or they leave keys with friends, arrange taxis upfront or have a designated driver in the group (worst job ever in my opinion).

or when one drinks with his mom or sis does one try to have sex with them in drunken state?

Jeso........

Genealogy / Want to find a person [762]

Are you sure it is in germany

Yes, in Germany it is illegal to post a public appeal in the likes of "Searching this and this person. Any advise or hints would be appreciated". That's reserved for law enforcement only i.e. official searches by the police seeking the help of the public.

and we talked for like over an hour and i want to talk her again

As i said, quite creepy. If she would want to talk to you again, surely she would have left her email address, phone number or simply would have emailed / chatted with you again, no?

Genealogy / Want to find a person [762]

I would be interested in the legal implications "private" searches for particular people on the Internet can have in Poland. I know that in Germany it is against the law to search for someone by using name and photos (or any other revealing material) on social media sites or forums. In worst case scenario the person who runs the forum can be held responsible.

Can any of the mods or perhaps the person who runs the forum clarify on this?

I find it extremely weird that again and again people come on here searching for others and reveal (as happened in another thread) personal information and photos. Is it just me who finds that extremely creepy?

UK, Ireland / Why Polish girls working in UK as escort more than other Eastern European girls [89]

I find that to be quite racist and unless you can actually proof that the majority of punters in the UK (or anywhere else for that matter) are from the Middle East, I would be careful with such statements. At the end it only makes you look like some bitter bigot holding a personal grudge against people from a specific region or religion.

UK, Ireland / Why Polish girls working in UK as escort more than other Eastern European girls [89]

While I don't necessarily agree with the OP, i must admit that i found your speech to be quite theatrical. I am not sure when you have been to Poland last, but unless the girls that I meet in bars and clubs around the country are on a church evening out, I think that their catholic way of life does not reach beyond the borders of the Easter or Christmas holidays (which i do not mind at all).

I think you should think about what nationalities and types of men buy sex, and what that says about them.

I don't think that there is anything wrong with it (as long as the women are not being physically forced). It is not my cup of tea, but coming from a rather "open minded" country, I can not see how going to a working girl would say anything about a man himself. What i don't like however are men who preach about morals and then act against their words when nobody is watching.

UK, Ireland / Why Polish girls working in UK as escort more than other Eastern European girls [89]

still no one answered my Q

Why do you think that is?

Perhaps because hardly (if anyone) on this forum works in this field and knows why the girls choose the UK?

However, you must be pretty naive (or blind) if you think that only because Polish girls are actually listed on those websites, that they make up the majority of central / eastern European girls working as prostitutes in the UK.

There is a good chance that Moldovan and Ukrainian girls would make up a much larger number. In most cases, you just would not see it, not even the authorities do.

But surely, such a great "punter" as you does not pay interest to that........

Travel / Why most taxis in Warsaw cheat foreigners to get more money? [38]

Most are ok and the bigger firms usually take care of their reputation.

Of course, generally taxis in Poland are ok. I have had it sometimes that a driver would take a different road, allowing him to earn 1 zloty more, however cheating himself out of a 2 zloty tip which i normally give to drivers who go the right and the quickest way.

I guess we can all agree that a statement such as "charging foreigners ten times more" is utter nonsense.

Law / USD shooting up so high for PLN [76]

Thanks for the link!

Law / USD shooting up so high for PLN [76]

The problem with CHF is that around 700000 people in Poland took CHF mortgage. If it stays like that some of them may bankrupt.

I find that extremely interesting because in 2010, the Swiss government set the exhange rate at minimum of 1 EUR : 1.20 CHF, meaning that the Swiss Franc could never get stronger than 1.20 to the Euro. Obviously, that block must have been lifted, however, i did not hear about that it was at any point.

This may not only be a blow to the Polish home owners who have mortgages in CHF (to be honest, they probably don't deserve otherwise for being that stupid), it could also have a major affect on Swiss retail and export.

When i stayed in Switzerland, the Franc went from 1 - 1:30 to 1 - 1:10 which saw many people exchanging their Francs to Euro and do ther shopping across the border in Germany, France and Italy. It was also the time when the Swiss government decided on the 1 - 1:20.

Genealogy / Are Silesians people German/Germanic? [178]

God know that even most of Germans aren`t of Germanic but of Slavic origin.

Perhaps Germany could also join your dream Commonwealth with Serbia. Would make sense......

Life / Polish traditions and customs? I'm writing a crime novel that takes place in Poland. [10]

I wouldn't put it down as "tradition" but it seems that Polish people, when waiting for the elevator, like to wait right infront of the doors of the elevator, appearing all surprised when the door opens and someone is trying to get out. Of course, making space for the person trying to get out appears to be too much to ask.

Some goes for trams, busses, trains or anything else that has doors and moves.
