Love / Valentines Day & Polish men [130]

I was told in primary school that while imprisoned he would send out messages of hope that started the tradition of Valentine cards.

I have heard this too. they were signed "Your Valentine" hence the term used today.

Love / Valentines Day & Polish men [130]

The day was first established by Pope Gelasius I in 496 AD by the RCC.

St. Valentine was martyred for disobeying the emperor and clandestinely marrying Roman soldiers to their sweethearts when it was forbidden for soldiers to marry. So one can see how this saint's day became associated with romance.

News / Does Poland support the idea of Slavic unity? [142]

Btw, panslavism is not a Russian invention, it's Czech as far as I remember

I remembered it being a Slovak invention, but Wiki claims a Croatian priest from the 17th century was the first to advocate it.

Life / Are Poles mentally more Eastern European or Western European? [170]

The Szlachta never had hierarchical terms of rank amongst themselves. Some magnates did call themselves karmazyni but there was never any official distinction in rank between one nobleman and another. There were no "counts" in Poland. Hythorn you are projecting your own British concepts on to Poland.

nor do you speak any foreign languages

I wish all of my French teachers, and all of my Mexican friends, were in Poznan so that they could come over to your house and disabuse you of this supid assumption. How would you know whether or not I speak any foriegn languages ?

It's not blonde - it's mousy brown.

Perhaps to you, and Wroclaw, it is, but there is not an exact distinction between light brown and dark blonde. The boundary between the two is vague. Pretending that your own opinion about what is, or isn't, blonde hair is objective is just another example of your ......

Wroclaw: 'dirty blonde' is a term used by english speaking Poles. dirty blonde = mousy

Wroclaw: i don't agree. light brown (mousy) is not blonde.

Wroclaw may not consider "dirty blonde" to be "blonde" but the people using the term "dirty blonde" which includes the word "blonde" in it obviously do, otherwise they'd say "light brown" or use another term that doesn't contain the word "blonde".

The mods are certainly watching this one, I'd wager.

Good then maybe they can do their job and remove Harry's off-topic post #411. This is a discussion forum with threads about specific topics and this thread has nothing to do with his offer to pay me to come to Poland. Harry should be suspended for constantly making this offer, which I have refused repeatedly, in threads that have nothing to do with charity work.

You've already had it explained to you by several posters that in Poland, Poles will use "dirty blonde" to refer to a specific shade that isn't actually blonde.

But they still call it blonde, because it is a shade of blonde, not because it "isn't actually blonde". Here in America we sometimes call it dishwater-blonde but we are not stupid enough to say that it isn't "actually blonde". It seems you need to be from the British ilses to make that inept assertion.

Really I would somehow learn that blonde hair is not blonde hair regardless of its shade in Poland.... I somehow doubt that. Did you learn to believe contradictory statements in Poland or did you bring your illogic with you from Scotland?

Blond is blond regardless of its shade

Hear hear!

Maybe delph is a racist at heart!

Maybe Wroclaw is too. If platinum blonde hair is "Scandinavian" then are Poles born with it somehow not Polish?
Edit: thank you Pennboy. I seriously doubted that Poles were using the term "Scandinavian" to describe platinum blondes.

normally brown eyes are dominant..we will have to wait and see

You are right that the gene for brown eyes is dominant when paired with the gene for blue/reen/grey eyes, but if her partner carries the recessive gene, that is responsible for blue/green/grey eyes, then there is a 50/50 chance the child will have blue/green/grey eyes.

Your ignorance of Poland knows no limits, does it?

Your stupid ability to make false distinctions knows none:

it's rare to see genuine blondes. I don't know many - plenty of dirty "Polish" blondes

So by your reasoning "dirty" blondes are somehow not "genuine" blondes..... Then why call them blondes in the first place unless you are just being an idiot?

It's strange that you have such indepth knowledge of Nazi racial theories, isn't it?

Where in my brief post do you see "indepth" knowledge of Nazi racial theories?

However, as someone living here, it's rare to see genuine blondes. I don't know many - plenty of dirty "Polish" blondes, but nothing like you'll find in Sweden or the like.

Putting the word Polish in quotation marks..... You are the racist delphiandomine, not me.

I think that most of people on the west cant some how believe that Poles are blond...

It seems that many Westerners posting here have patronizing Nazi-like attitudes that regard Poles as a "backwards" people who can't be blond because blondness is reserved for the descendants of the Angles, Saxons, Jutes, and other Germanic tribes.

However, you might note that I asked you about your observations. Perhaps you could share those with us?

I gave you my personal observations regarding my own Polish family.

Thank you for the off-hand insult.

You are welcome, but I didn't insult you. I asked you a question.

I'd be particularly interested to hear your observations as to the people of the Baltic coast, given your claims about the people of that area and the fact that all three I mention are from along the Baltic coast (assuming, in one case, that Malbork is counted as Baltic coast).

The map I linked to doesn't claim that every Pole on the Baltic coast is blond. Do you understand percentages Harry?

Can you perhaps go into detail about what you have seen with regard to people in Poland and the number of people with blonde hair and blue eyes?

In my own family most people, myself included, have blond hair and blue eyes, but there are also dark-eyed brunettes in my family. If you are assuming my posting that map means that I somehow believe that only blonds are Polish then you are sorely mistaken.

must be some Armenian blood in my family

Do you have any idea how widespread Armenian ancestry is in today's Poland gumishu? Armenians began intermarrying with native Poles long ago. There is an interesting literary case of an Armenian family being Polonized in Sienkiewicz's On the Field of Honor set in the days leading up to the Battle of Vienna.

I did - and your 'big think website' doesn't concur with my or anyone else's experience of that region

Maybe it does not concur with your experience but you are merely one person whereas the map is based on data gotten from actual anthropological research. As for your claim that your experience is the same as "anyone else's" you are being pompous, presumptuous, and stupid.

Though there isn't any special preponderance of blond people along the Baltic Coast

Look at the map provided in the link it says otherwise, but please explain why the map is wrong and you are right.

The Finns are the blondest nation by percentage. Poland, like Russia, is blondest in its territory on the coast of the Baltic "the Blonde Sea":

News / Poland fines singer for bashing Bible [159]

Ecclesiastes

Is the most noble book in the entire Old Testament. You cannot honestly believe that it is:

the product of serious and untreated mental illness.

unless you yourself are cracked.

being drunk and stoned doesn't make the many writers of the books that 'make up' the bible, or anyone else, a liar.

I agree with you Mondafil. This pop singer's critique of the Bible was that of an uptight ignoramus.

News / Polish People STILL denied US Entry [96]

Why do Poles so badly want to come here anyway?

Why the hell not?

Is it for the fact that because it's harder for them to get here, they want to come here even more?

Poles like a challenge.

Why do they look at others, saying "they can do this and "we" can't?"

Because they know that anything any other humans are allowed to do is allowed to Poles, because Poles are as good, or better, than any other humans on Earth. It is true tygrys. Weep if you must, but you know it's true.

Why don't Poles do something in their own country instead of moving to other countries?

Poles like to travel and **** off uptight people around the globe.

News / Polish prosecutor 'shoots self after news conference' [93]

a) Calling somebody a hypocrite is a personal attack.

I called no one a hypocrite. I made a conditional statement:

Do you think it is OK for you to mention suspension, but not me? If so then you are a hypocrite.

You should read what is written more closely and you should also read the articles linked to in the OP before commenting on a thread.

Another life lost? How many more in this senseless waste.

As for this thread's sad topic. I don't think posters should be impugning the prosecutor's instruction in marksmanship. People are not trained to fire guns when they are pointing them at themselves.

He does seem to have learned unfortunately little from his latest suspension, which means that another one is certain to not be far away.

You should be suspended for trying to ridicule Mediawatch when he hadn't even commented on the thread yet. Do you think it is OK to behave in such a manner because you suppossedly 'help' people on this forum? Well it isn't OK. You need to behave yourself. You've obviously leaned nothing from your myriad suspensions. Are you gonna cry to the mods now because I dare to mention the fact that you have been suspended numerous times? You''ve already mentioned that I was suspended. Do you think it is OK for you to mention suspension, but not me? If so then you are a hypocrite.

USA KEEPS THE gates open to ILLEGAL immigrants from say Mexico

This is not true Legend. It is getting harder and harder for illegal immigrants to cross into the USA via her Southern border. The tide is not stemmed completely because if it were agricultural production in the Southwest would be ruined for lack of workers to pick the incredible bounty of food we grow here.

the reason is pretty simple - Mexican kids born in the US will be Democratic voters - Polish kids in the US will more likely be Republican voters

American born Polish kids may be more likely to become Republican voters but only very slightly. Both Mexican-Americans and Polish-Americans tend to vote for Democrats.

Love / Indian citizen wants to marry Polish Girl and get settled there. [107]

Your remarks about the job market in Poland are funny, an English person or an American might be ok saying that, but an Indian ( India's economy has barely reached developing country status a decade or two ago and job security isn't common ) - seriously pot calling the kettle black.

Midas do you not see the absurdity of what you write? If it is OK for a person from the USA or the UK to say something then it is OK for someone from elsewhere to say it too.
