Life / Why is circumcision not practiced in Poland? [701]

Very well put, Llama :)
Totally agree. Most Poles wouldn't do it though, because it's not a cultural norm. Most the world doesn't have it done so I doubt it ever becomes popular in Poland.

Who's Norm?

It's best to snip boys as babies... less pain, quicker healing...

It doesn't need to be done. Let the man decide what he wants to do when he's older. It's unfair to boys to do surgery like that on them without their permission.

you know what else is natural? a big, hairy bush between your legs. and which do you prefer?

It doesn't matter to me what a woman chooses. I know what I choose. I shave my legs to keep with norms. If were in a country with hairy armpits and legs, I might stop shaving mine, too.

Besides, shaving doesn't involve surgery and is relatively inexpensive and pain free.

is it natural for a man to have 8-pack abs? most men naturallyput on most of their fat in their stomachs but what do most women go crazy for? washboard abs.

Men used to do a lot of physical activities for survival's sake that built up those muscles without doing exercises. Most men don't do exercises and don't look like that. They are still married and everything. So, there must be more to it than that.

A man should have it done by choice in adulthood, imo. Let him choose if he wants it or not and don't stigmatize the ones who elect not to get it done.

And another thing, men have been reproducing for millions of years with the foreskin so it can't impede them too much. Plus, it's taboo for women to be circumcised, so why the double standard for men? It's not fair.

If a woman truly loves a man she's not gonna love him less coz his chuj is naked or not.

It's shallow to not date a guy just because of that. If someone wanted to date me only because of that, I wouldn't want to be with them in the first place. Says something about how limited their thinking is. And emotions.

Why is it that Poland seems like such a backwards country?

Why is it men always make a big deal out of this. It's barbaric to do that to a baby.

UK, Ireland / Poles in the UK, you know were the door is [102]

how you finding the hispanic immigration?

It's not the same situation because Poles go to UK legally while Mexicans just hop over the border or pay someone to move them over. It's dangerous because of the heat.

News / Another Polish city honors President Reagan [49]

What did he do exactly?

He supported Poland. He could have supported Russia, but he did not. When you think about it, it makes sense to support Russia because they are bigger and have more weapons. He stood up to the mighty bear.

I like Ronald Reagan for what he did to end the Soviet Block but I dislike some of what he did over here. He's neutral in my book, but good for him for helping Poland.

Morons. They're socially conservative, but economically, they couldn't be further from the truth. They're pro trade union, pro welfare, pro public ownership - everything that conservatives aren't.

Catholic clergy tend to be anti capitalism, so that's no surprise. They see capitalism as promoting poverty and exploiting the weak.

Food / What do non-Poles think about eating the following Polish foods? [1410]

I don't know, it says they may be hard to cultivate.
But the blue ones look cool and there supposed to be easier.

I am thinking about growing some in the stumps. I have a lot of them and they aren't doing anything so why not try to grow some mushroom in them?

It says they are "birch plugs" and none of mine are birch. Would that matter?
Another problem is they need to be cool. It's too hot for them to fruit here unless I wait until fall :(
I would have to grow them inside.

My cats would definitely bother them. I don't know if they would actually eat them. They might try them, to be sure. They wouldn't leave them alone that's for certain.

I read about the Maitake mushroom plugs, they are difficult to cultivate, so I am wondering if I could get them to grow in my yard. I have a stump in my front yard from an old tree, just perfect for mushrooms. I would try an easy variety, first.

Still, there's nothing like the forest mushrooms :)

Thanks for the link. It says you can grow them using a log on a coffee table. That might give them a woodsy flavor and an interesting conversation piece, too.

If I tried to do that, my cats would eat them. I would need to put them on the floor in my pantry.
There's a variety called Chicken of the Woods or Sulfur Shelf I would like to try. It's got a brilliant yellowish orange color, at least it does in the picture.

I found some plugs for Hen of The Woods in the link. I wonder how easy it is to grow them outside, in the yard?

Have you got boczniaki? They can be grown at home.

Those are cool looking!
However, I haven't seen any of those here. I have seen lots of Button Mushrooms. They are popular, so's Portobello. Then there's a type that look like Button Mushrooms, except slightly larger and brown. I don't know their name but I often buy them.

I've seen an increase in mushroom variety at the local market. Some varieties are expensive, though. People are discovering them more and more.
They taste delicious with chicken which is a popular food at the moment.
Mushroom farming is also popular. People grow them in boxes in their closets. It's cost effective that way.

What would you pair them with in America?

You can substitute them for meat if you are a vegetarian because they have a mild meaty flavor. They are good sauted in olive oil with some parmesan cheese. They work well with green beans. Rice. Pasta, so long as there's a sauce and they are cooked. They taste awesome in a buttery sauce, served with baked potatoes or steak.

Anytime you want the hearty flavor, throw in a few mushrooms. They are found in cans of creamed soup, too, or you can make your own with mushrooms and cream.

You can also put them in a salad. They go with so many things.
