History / Pictures of Polish Jews holding coins and lemons? [25]

I don't care either way

You evidently 'care' enough to post about it.

I have never seen such pictures.

No surprises, given that you're a long-term expat elsewhere.

But, it was not jews artists from Poland did it

It certainly is nowadays. You don't see those pictures anywhere else, and fortunately they're getting rarer here.

I hope they legalize

There are CBD shops which sell a weaker kind of weed that's just about legal (or in a grey area). It's quite relaxing and high in CBD which does have therapeutic benefits.

I hope they legalize, it would be a big shot in the arm for the economy

It's a long way off, and the vodka/beer lobby would oppose it hugely.

Life / Amazon Alexa/Google Nest in Poland [10]

I presume instructions have to be in English though?

As far as I know, yes.

We use it for turning the Roomba on and off, for playing music, for turning the lights on and off and a couple of other things.

No Spotify (I've never used that), however it does connect to Amazon Music.

Sensible, especially when you can get it cheaply enough from those out in the countryside who do.

The quality suffers if you pick it prematurely and it doesnt have a good tase either,

This smelt like it was almost ready. I don't know what sort of lights they had, however they certainly didn't have much ventilation.

Growing outside is much better and the plants get huge:)

I'd love to grow some, however our terrace is very overlooked; it just wouldn't be worth the risk, even with smaller plants.

There are a few dealers in Poland who sell online; the risk is whether or not you'd want your address on their computer when they get raided.

People like to brag and show off their crop

Fortunately not so much in Poland. I've come across one person boasting about it; he was taking quite a risk, in such a small community as his.

One good thing in PL is that there are plenty of remote places for people to grow, and farmers are often quite secretive anyway. If people get caught growing, you just don't hear about it much.

Sometimes people do take risks though; there was a part-completed house near me where there was an obvious grow happening a couple of years ago. The smell of the green plants was unavoidable to anyone passing the house. This was in a 'good' suburb of Warsaw. It only lasted a few days; I suspect the smell made them harvest it early.

the potency of todays weed versa what we smoke back in college

Way too strong nowadays, compared to the stuff years ago that was generally imported/smuggled.

give the exact coordinates to the police

In the UK they don't bother any more. In cities, the risk is that criminals use drones with heat cameras, looking for people growing in order to rob them.

weed in my corn

There are children in your corn!!!

Seriously, it helps a lot if it's grown at the right altitude.

So much of the stuff grown under lights in attics is bred to be as strong as possible. Fun if you're a 19 year old pushing boundaries, yet too strong if you're an adult who just wants to enjoy it...

It's usually nicer when grown outside in someone's field. In any case, lockdowns aside, Berlin is 6 hours from Warsaw by train and Amsterdam 12. Longer by car, however plenty of people do drive there and back.

Very much so.

Grow lights are a bad idea in places where it's illegal. High electricity use, heat signature and smell are all factors that lead to people being arrested. Fortunately in Poland, a lot of people have land that isn't overlooked.

A long and winding road.

The CBD shops also sell very mild cannabis, so mild it's legal. You do feel some effects from it, mostly relaxation and a relief for aches and pains.

It is still illegal,

Yep, still illegal. Although there are plenty of shops here selling seeds "for collectors"...

Language / Cultural disparities shown through Polish and English languages [195]

Is the infinitive "Chodzić" .... unspecified mode of transportation?

It implies walking but can also be a little less specific, and sometimes mean something closer to "to frequent'. For example going to the gym. It's got a couple of other meanings too.

Life / St Patrick's day in Poland [272]

St Patrick though was a great traveller. I wonder if he was truly celibate or whether his genes continue to today.

It is as if John Paul II had been Russian.

The Tsar of All the Russias had a lot of Russias under his wing, from Łódż to Vladivostok. Never got as far as Ireland though (although the Cap of Monomakh spent 20 years in a cardboard box in someone's attic in Dublin)...

UK, Ireland / Racist ex-priest Międlar tries to fly from Poland to U.K. again. [293]

He is being prosecuted now for antiSemitic remarks

He'll certainly be required to have a psychiatric examination by the court. Assuming he gets that far; the other notorious anti Semite, Bubel, checked himself into the mental hospital at Twórki just before his first court date. They kept him there.

Life / St Patrick's day in Poland [272]

It should be said that in his famous Confessio, he doesn't always speak especially highly about the people of Ireland. He was more concerned about their souls than anything else.

Life / St Patrick's day in Poland [272]

True though.

Yes. Born in Somerset to a family wealthy enough to have him educated.

It is as if John Paul II had been Russian.

It's quite likely that some of his distant ancestors were. One of his surviving family members is a Protestant married to a Jewish lady.

News / Thousands of Polish women attend Czarny Piątek rally in Warsaw [780]

The difference is, that I speak the truth :-D

Strange how those who are most dismissive and disrespectful of women in general and women's rights in particular are the ones most unlucky in love. Rather like those losers who pay money to lowlife like that 'Roosh' prannock and similar to learn how to be a 'pick-up artist'...
