Off-Topic / Are Polish Christians here? [160]

Sarmatia shall awake.

When?

We Serbs saved memory on the ancestral path and proved Christ is God of love

Why?

And how is it relevant to the staunchly Roman Catholic Poland?

That is the path we know

Who's 'we' and how would you 'know' such a path.

Our ancestors are the only god we are certain gave life to us

Few here would agree with that.

To return to Latin American ancestors

return to our own ancestor .... Return to the path of ancestors is the only way.

Why 'return to ancestors'?

Language / Maria, what is the Polish form? [30]

Maria is often used as a second name in Germanic naming and in Spanish and French where it's often hyphenated.

It sometimes is in the UK, if a family is very Catholic. I've come across it once in Poland too, however the person was half-French.

Christ as true God of love, goes hand in hand with Svetovid

Most people here in Poland would disagree with that assertion...

Return to the path of ancestors is the only way.

And that one.

Food / What do non-Poles think about eating the following Polish foods? [1450]

For Brits of Polish origin or native Poles

For anybody probably. Most larger food shops and some smaller ones in my home town stocked Polish products, sauerkraut, gherkins, jam, tinned meat.

Plenty of Poles and Ukrainians there (who came after the war) however as I remember there were some many things from Poland that others must have bought them too. We always had Polish products at home, especially gherkins and jam but also sauerkraut sometimes. They started to disappear from the shops after Chernobyl due to consumer reluctance and when the UK joined the single market in 1990 pretty well vanished completely.

"kwiaty konopi"

I like that too.

But in Poland I'd definitely get a script to avoid issues with PL cops

Oy's a good idea. I gather a lot of people are doing this now.

Law / Help with confusing requirements for emigration from UK to Poland [22]

I don't believe you can live in Poland and remain paying tax in UK.

Usually you can't.

double taxation agreement between both countries

That's correct.

There are however some (rare and obscure) exceptions that don't affect most people. Exceptions relate to very specialised fields of work and anyone eligible for that would know already if it applied to them and wouldn't generally be asking on a forum.

Assuming that doesn't apply here, the OP will probably be liable for Polish tax and in any case will need to submit a declaration

Vatican hate Poles truly and sincerely and, as much as hate Poles love Germanics

No and no.

The Vatican aren't haters and any 'brainwashing' is a result of the naivete of the episcopate here. Most people don't dwell on religious politics.

o appointments needed at my town hall yet.

That's good. It's a 3 week wait in some parts of Warsaw at the moment and similar in other larger cities. You do get a specific time slot though, and probably quicker if you can go in the morning when most people are working.

Football hooligan anti jewish crap

The Jude Gang thing is part of the 'Holy War' of football supporters. Jewish groups who monitor anti-semitism don't consider it to be anti-semitic in itself.

The Holy War (and the name Jude Gang) goes back to the 1920s when it was a rivalry between two Jewish football teams, Makkabi and Jutrzenka, both then in Kraków.

Jude Gang is I think (or more truthfully, Google thinks) a supporters group in Kraków. Is it at the Crakovia stadium?

You can now get a pesel without a meldunek

You can, however they'll give you one anyway when you do the meldunek (if you don't have one already) so not much point getting another appointment (you have to wait a couple of weeks) to get one separately.

I was actually at the Town Hall today doing this to help a friend who doesn't speak Polish very well.

1. It gets you drunk quickly, and 2. it's cheap.
On the lower shelves in the booze shop, a firm favourite of the homeless.

Probably very little, ID and maybe a PESEL (a number they'll issue you with when you do your meldunek).

You don't need to do anything about health insurance (the NFZ scheme or private) until you're here.

As I say, sign up with one of the FB groups for British people living here. Most of the people in them have just gone through this or are doing it right now including at Rzeszów (important because local offices can be inconsistent with the way they interpret rules). Worth remembering that plenty of Brits are racing to regulate their stay before the transition period ends and the various offices in question are well used to British people right now.

basically anyone with a problem that would not be covered under private insurance

Sadly yes unless Johnson pulls off a miracle deal over the next 10 weeks. It's the same for pensioners who are going to find travel becoming more and more expensive as they age.

Oh and basically your EHIC card will work forever

In fact it won't. The UK government have said that UK citizens will not be part of this system after the end of the transition period.

But best do NFZ proper,

Or a private alternative. There are pluses and minuses to both.

My research indicated I just needed my passport and official translated copies of my marriage

It sounds like your relatives have been enquiring about something else entirely, perhaps permanent residence. I suggest you have a look at the FB groups where the current situation is discussed daily.

the specific question about requirements for my residency.

You need two things (prior to 31/12/20 when it changes). These are:

- A meldunek. This takes a few minutes at the town hall. You need to fill a form in, show your passport, and the owner of wherever you live shows proof of ownership.

- Health insurance. You can either use the NFZ or private. The type you need doesn't cost as much as you mention.

Then you go to the regional office that issues residency with proof of those two things, fill in a simple form and wait for your card.

Note that this is the system prior to the end of 2020 (after which you will probably need to convert the card they give you to a new one. If you leave it until 2021 it is very possible that you'll need to go through a far lengthier procedure depending on whether there's a Brexshit deal or not and depending on what the Schengen zone and Poland decide to do.

There are several facebook groups where this is much discussed. I don't use FB myself, however a quick look at a friend's shows groups called Brits in Poland, Brytyjczycy w Polsce and various variants of those. People in those groups are going through the process and can advise in real time.

UK, Ireland / Polish immigrants in the UK - victims or criminals?! [295]

Interesting:

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of impersonating a police officer after an off-duty police officer was pulled over in Craigavon.

The man is described as white, approximately 5' 9" tall, medium build with brown hair and blue eyes and spoke with a Polish accent.

our dispensaries here in Michigan

No idea. It's a new project here and only just being rolled out. I might try it, just for medicinal purposes.

an awful nice Z for $200 on the street.

Most dealers here don't even see that much in a week. One of the many reasons I don't use it these days. Since I stopped, my joints ache, so it may well be worth a trip to the clinic to get some legally.

Looks like this. A handy sized stash pot.

There are a few clinics that do nothing else but give prescriptions for it. They're findable online. Several in Warsaw. The pharmacists that stock it even have a choice of types. basically legalisation in stages.

How cheap is medical in PL?

Not expensive. Especially given the quality and the fact that it's in a decent quantity rather than little baggies.

One benefit is that you've got a copy of your prescription and a branded medical pot with a sticker from the apteka on the side. People get a prescription once then subsequently keep their stash in the pot, thereby avoiding trouble if the cops come round....

Have you been there? It's a fun journey. An interesting part of Poland too. A storm broke out while we were there and I got an SMS saying "Welcome to Russia"...

News / A good day for animals, fur trade and ritual slaughter banned / limited in Poland [22]

If anything, it's oily fish that led to hominids becoming homo sapiens.

And then we evolved the skill of farming and our diet became better.

In late 2019 I came back from 3 years in a country in Africa with an almost entirely meat-based diet. Hardly any vegetables at all. The average male life expectancy there is around 58.

USA, Canada / My grievances with the American-Polonia [54]

so very true its the biggest shock that people get when they visit Poland,

Quite. It's not so much that people are being deliberately rude (although this certainly happens). More that people are being formal in a context that they perceive as formal. That and the 'arguing' culture here; they're being guarded in case people start arguing with them. A smile to them does however bring good results.

I've seen American Polonia visiting Warsaw become genuinely shocked when a waitron or shop assistant starts being difficult with them.
