Travel / Pot in Poland for tourists [285]

yes I did wonder myself what happened to that thread, it was the most interesting thread I have read here for ages.
Not that I was after pot in Wroclaw myself, but you never know.....;)
Once I bought some very easily from a friendly person in Zielona Gora, but I was younger then and with a crowd in a campervan...ahhhh happy days....

Life / Racism in Poland - the future [558]

I'd have to write an essey, and I don't feel like that right now. Let just say that PC reaminds me of Communism. Both are trying to shape the society along some sily, artificial ideas.

fair enough..........it is late after all.....

rozumiemnic@ What a fiting nick you have chosen...

so much easier to dismiss me like that than enter into any meaningful debate, isnt it?
I chose my nick to illustrate that I have arrived at a point in my life when I am no longer arrogant enough to pretend I understand everything.....

you say you dislike 'political correctness'...would you care to define what that means for you exactly?
Or have you read the Daily Mail once too often, and you like the phrase ...'It's political correctness gone mad!!!!'

Life / Racism in Poland - the future [558]

I do beliveve that healthy dose of xenophobia (without going over the top) should be encouraged, despite the clamour made by self appointed PC-Police. It keeps societies safe and self sustained. If it was working good for our fathers, and our fathers' fathers, so it should be good for us.

safe for whom exactly?
Plenty of things worked well for our fathers and our fathers' fathers including slave and child labour, state sanctioned wife beating, early graves from overwork, starving to death in the gutter, dying in the trenches of WW1 or WW2... or Siberia....

Were these things therefore 'good'?

Language / Polish was chosen the HARDEST LANGUAGE in the world to learn... :D [1558]

well that makes sense at least...
an Irish person might say...
'How long are you here for', meaning 'How long have you been here for?', not ' how long are you planning to stay'.
Polish is very difficult with the case endings and such.....

Those who got beaten up were acting offensive (attacking the police, talking to Polish girls, stuff like that), so they more or less asked for it

News / The Political Circus of Poland [309]

You don't get involved with mumbling lunatics, you laugh and run away - otherwise you will waste your life talking to someone who will never get a grasp on reality.

well I don't know if laughing at people witth mental health problems and then running away is really OK...
one day it could be you or your brother you know?

Language / Polish case question (Mężczyzna jest zimno? or Dziewczyna jest zimno?) [71]

Rozumienic, you might have misunderstood my post!

In English, "him" NEVER changes through morphological permutations

I think that sentence is easy enough to understand, not much space for misunderstanding, is there?
Oh and it's 'they're', not 'their'..
have a nice day y'all.

Language / Polish case question (Mężczyzna jest zimno? or Dziewczyna jest zimno?) [71]

In English, "him" NEVER changes through morphological permutations such as "mu", "niego", "nim" etc....

umm...unless it is HE, HIS, or HIMSELF?really Lyzko for someone who claims to be a linguist you have remarkably little language awareness.....

Life / Why is circumcision not practiced in Poland? [701]

it is something done based on biblical times when hygiene was sub par.

right, and it was done in hot sandy places where sand stuck under the foreskin could be...nassssssty....
poor baby boys having their dick snipped...how painful, how....ergh.

Life / Do Polish names generally have a meaning to them or a particular structure?. [88]

Cant say Ive met many Snobbish Americans.
Though the ones I have met like that are world class at it :)

that's what I meant....

Tourists seem obbsessed with our "Nobility"

yeh esp. Americans innit?

It's an interesting thread though. I remember for instance a girl here in UK called 'Balinska' and she did go on about about how her dad had been a 'Count' in Poland.

When you meet very 'normal' people called, say, Seymour or Howard, you wonder who their ancestors were....
not that it's really very important, just interesting.
It must be borne in mind that those who claim to be descended from nobility or whatever don't really have anything to be proud of, just that they had an ancestor who was the King's bumboy.(or something)

Love / Do Polish people like Scottish people (friendship or relationship with a Scot)? [56]

Whilst the Braveheart film was very much Hollywood script it was based around historical events, even though they were inaccurately portrayed.

you could say that.....just a bit. That Gibson should have been done for inciting racial hatred. Mind you he looked good in a kilt.

and having a parent from a certain country doesnt give you some fantastic insight into the history and politics of that country, it just makes you biased.

Love / Do Polish people like Scottish people (friendship or relationship with a Scot)? [56]

Being oppressed and exploited by larger and more powerful neighbours,

.
that's such a myth, all the money in Britain is in the hands of Scots and has been for many years. Just my opinion, but I don't buy into all that wildly inaccurate 'Braveheart' tosh, it was all just an invention.

Travel / Any Anglican churches in Poland? [35]

well maybe, but what is interesting is just how many people never changed from the 'old religion'......and also how close the two churches have become (Cardinal Newman and the Oxford movement), so much so that the last time I was in an ostensibly 'Anglican' church I became convinced I had read the sign at the door wrongly....the smell of incense nearly knocked me out..
