the rise in the VAT incomes for the Polish budget was mainly because of curbing of VAT fraud which PO seemingly could not accomplish

to be honest I have never read Gross's books (including the one on Jedwabne) - what I heard about it is from the sources close to Polish nationalists - I believed that the crime of Jedwabne was perpetrated by a couple of dozens of Poles (this is what the 1950's trial established and what initial Polish critics of Gross maintained) - and I was perplexed how a few dozens of people without firearms managed to cattle 1600 people (as Gross claims) into a barn to burn them alive

okay - I didn't know enough about the Jedwabne pogrom - I just read a paper by IPN which for the most part agrees with what Gross stated and it made sense to me (in the context of what I read before on the internet) - so while Gross is not a historian (and Princeton can kiss my ass about it) what he wrote (even if it was mostly one man's account of what happened there and the documents of the trial from 1949) was mostly true
