Po polsku / Strefa Wolna od Małpiszonów [46]

Małpa co wieczór dwie flaszki wódy pije,
Został nauczycielem - choć ledwo się kryje.
Uczył historii, choć często się chwiał,
Aż pewnej nocy przepadł... nikt go nie znał

Did you ever expect that you would be in full agreement with Johnny Reb on the subject of the welfare state?

Not once, ever.

And those "connections" divulge "classified military intelligence secrets" to you?

No. They do it on his yacht.

They sail to it from shore in an Idioms.

Six picks

In no particular order. Babcock, 3i, RR, Pets At Home, and M&S.

I'd say Halma and BAe however neither of those are at all cheap. I may buy some Halma myself however it is a long term thing.

M&S is controversial, however they're making some changes which are in the company's best interests.

criminals breaking the law and the constitution.

There are courts to deal with such suggestions.

The whole point is they aren't comfortable

A lot of the small towns where PiS core voters live aren't doing well and aren't going to be. They fear change anyway and vote for what brings them comfort.

News / CO2 emissions in Poland. Should Poland go nuclear or stick with clean coal technologies? [93]

Some great news:

Poland's government has announced 230 million zloty (€54 million) in state support for the construction of what it says will be the world's largest factory producing towers for offshore wind turbines.

Paszyk noted the 230 million zloty in public funding being granted to the new Windar facility is part of a broader 5 billion zloty package earmarked by the ministry for green investments, aimed at reducing Poland's reliance on conventional energy sources.

The minister cited Baltic Towers, a Polish firm building another offshore wind tower production facility in Gdańsk, which has received more than 376 million zloty in aid.

@Paulina
It is indeed.

I wondered if by "Bramy" he meant a a particular housing estate wit( striking architecture, however if he thinks it's some sort of urban squalor he'd be very wrong.

Maybe zwiedzamy his town and have a look.

If they were so "secret" that there would be no mention of it in the media whatsoever then you wouldn't be privy to such classified information, so cut the bullsh1t :)

Like PAK's secret kill switch which he assured us that American arms manufacturers put in all their products (as if the buyers don't check every item). If it were anything other than BS, he'd either be leaking a major government secret that he doesn't know or he'd be a whistleblower determined to stop all arms sales.

@cms neuf
And far too little.

Plus of course the sheer number of flats/houses either standing empty almost always or used only at weekends. Something to penalise in order to alleviate demand and homelessness.

Six of one... how would the tax shortfalls be made up?

Tax revenue from second homes, and end tax breaks for leaving houses and flats empty.

Sadly, no party in PL ever seems to have the balls to do that.

News / Abortion still under control in Poland - part 2 [379]

It was not the norm at the time. Hospitals weren't that safe anyway, it

It has been for a century now.

it was better to have good care in your home.

Better still to have doctors, midwives, nurses and actual equipment than to bleed out onto a Silentnight Divan.

Fetus?

Foetus.

About investments, UK government bonds look more and more attractive. The higher than average yied due to trumpian instability make the interest much better.

the border was opened then there was a coup

Yep, the Qutbists, ideological fanatics bankrolled by the Gulf. Israel won't give an inch though, especially with their current parliamentary make-up; most Israelis (or their forebears from about 1880 onwards) fled there to escape centuries of persecution and pogroms across the Middle East; the coalition partners that have forced Bibi's hand and will end his government (and his persona liberty due to outstanding corruption charges) are mostly people a generation away from fleeing there for their lives.

Ukraine can also be called a lost cause

It's the opposite of that; it is our enemy r*SSia showing why they must be crushed.

Putin does what he does because he is following the script written by NATO countries.

r*SSia wrote that script. The most evil polity by far on the planet right now.

I do have a Euromillions for tonight so looks like I'll be a man of leisure from Wednesday on.

Good luck - someone has to win.

Both places have differing degrees of responsibility for the creation of these refugees.

Nobody ever mentions Egypt in all this. A country of 110 million with the largest conurbation in Africa right next to the Gaza Strip and where most of the Gaza residents are from. They haven't even opened their border. Do I personally approve of Bibi's approach? No, he has crossed a serious line. Gaza and Palestine? A lost cause and a sort of benchmark of "Moral Purity", especially among those (UK is full of them) who really don't grasp that the concept of nationhood and/or countries is a colonial construct in the Arab world or how Iran and Egypt are driving the whole conflict.. There are threads on this, anyway.

European defence industries would then be a great place to invest.

At the moment, yes. A lot of contracts will be happening however we may yet have to nationalise, depending on how serious it gets. Privatised public utilities? Apart from certain (mostly small scale) exceptions, they should not exist.

Ending large investors ability to unduly profit from government contracts is a must. Small, private investors wouldnt make much difference

That's how the Tories spun it when they did the sell offs. Even my granny was given gas board shares. I bought (and thank God sold quickly) some Post Office shares. Of course everything went to large corporate investors, mostly foreign.

the lottery.

I won 140 quid yesterday on the lotto! The first major win apart from 30 quid a few years back.

Premium bonds and (right now) gilts are a good way to invest too, and for the good of society.
