Egypt

When Egypt had free elections the border was opened then there was a coup. Since then Israel has full control of the Egypt/Gaza border in breach of their treaty with Egypt. Most people in Gaza are from families ethnically cleansed from what became Israel. They do not have a right to return but some Americans and Russians with no connection to the place can go there as a right. Moral purity is to uphold the rules written by the "rules based order" they dont do that. Ukraine can also be called a lost cause and Putin does what he does because he is following the script written by NATO countries. PS I dont approve of what Putin is doing.

I understand there is a thread about the Levant but these things are intertwined.

I won 140 quid yesterday on the lotto!

Most I have ever won was £40 about 15 years ago but I do have a Euromillions for tonight so looks like I'll be a man of leisure from Wednesday on.

@jon357
Its not easy to find ethical investment opportunities with pension funds etc entwined in the chain. I would argue however that the bare minimum would be for countries to enforce court rulings. The ICJ found Israel responsible for the crime of apartheid meaning that there should be sanctions imposed by those countries that claim to abide by the so called rules based order. There have been 40,000 refugees created in the west bank in the past year and where do those people go? A lot will try to reach Europe and North America. Both places have differing degrees of responsibility for the creation of these refugees.

European defence industries would then be a great place to invest. I do feel uncomfortable with private institutions profiting from tax payer money so favour the nationalised model for essential industries. Have all the competition you want between toothpaste and vacuum companies but public utilities should be run for the benefit of the electorate. Privatisation has been a disaster exposing the competition argument for the nonsense it is. Ending large investors ability to unduly profit from government contracts is a must. Small, private investors wouldnt make much difference and I see no harm in allowing them to gamble after all we have bingo and the lottery.

Rolls Royce

The same company that happily supplied apartheid South Africa and is currently facilitating genocide in Palestine?

Edit
Its not a dig at you but at the morality free bollox that passes for modern economics

News / Will PiS be happy if AfD wins elections in Germany? [1301]

nobody gives a flying F about international law

The architecture or the ivory tower the so called rules based order uses depends upon it. I do agree that no one anywhere gives a fcuk about international law if it impinges upon their interests. That is the only comparison I would make with the Ukraine situation.

People have their horses and they will back them.

The situations are not similar....

Situations are never the same just like genocides are never identical. I'm talking about international law, you either support it or you dont. Its dissonant to support its application for one and not the other.

What do you think would happen to Israelis if Palestinians had anything like parity

Then they (Israel) would negotiate in good faith as equals and not dictate.

Look, you don't have a solution.

No one has a solution and one wont emerge until Israel stops breaking international law, ends the current genocide and dismantles the apartheid state they have created with the help of the so called rules based international order.

The interesting thing is that all those who get hot under the collar about Ukraine dont give a fcuk about international law when it comes to Palestine. Where is the outcry about herding Palestinians into cattle pens to give them some food because Israel has weaponised aid.

Fact is Israel originally served two purposes, it solved the so called Jewish problem and partially salved the conscience of European and US countries.

The Palestinian partition plan was contrary to the founding principals of the UN, a kind of original sin. But we are where we are. Perhaps the Israelis in general and the IDF in particular could give Hamas pointers in how to transition from an ethnocentric terrorist organisation into the most moral army in the world? I would ask the IDF for pointers but they have yet to transition.

all of it whipped up by expensive PR from politicians who represent those that make huge sums

Not just that but a bunch of grifters monetising tragedy (Yaxly lennon or whatever he is called)

I read an article about the trouble in Dublin and some incidents in the countryside where well over 50% of the comments and "calls to action" were from non Irish accounts.
The problem with the internet is it gives avery dickhead a bigger stage to dance on and amplified by large US advertising platforms. That connolly woman should have been chastised but I think her sentence is unduly harsh.

Despite you best efforts you can be insufferable in defending things that are clearly wrong or disporponate. It doesnt take much to have you scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I asked you because you are so sure in your posts that the system in britain is perfect.

All sentences are according to sentencing guidelines

Then perhaps you can explain why the mandatory guidelines for possession of guns was ignored by the british Judge two days ago. The fact that the person was a member of a british death squad and shared platforms with british MPs may have something to do with it.
.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn0g5wg2w00o

Unbridled support for things that are clearly wrong is not a good look.

avoid the thing that is causing your current hangover.

I was watching the Mighty Spurs last night and had two pints, hardly hangover territory. You dont like any criticism of britain or the political nature of much of your policing.

The woman was a prick but was treated harshly.

Have you nothing to say about british MPs displaying terrorist symbols or is it OK when they are your terrorists? In the meanwhile the british state is facilitating genocide

Edit
So it is his choice, having given them that spelling. Why would they use another?

Thats a lie.

Anything beyond a reprimand and suspended sentence is ridiculous overreach and intimidation.

I tend to agree, I despise the woman and her views and would have "stood with" the innocent unarmed people. The reason she received such a harsh sentence was purly political.

The British state has form here, the law is selectively applied for political reasons. Yesterday they charged an Irish pop singer using a british spelling of his name (something that doesnt happen to others if they use the same alphabet) with a terrorism related offence. It should be noted that those who make the laws routinely break them with impunity. British MPs frequently display symbols of terrorist organisations at their rallies something that is supposed to be illegal.

When I say British MPs I mean MPs from Britain not just the bigots who crawl to the British parliament from Ireland. The reason they go there is to authorise the sale of weapons to a terrorist state conducting genocide and using starvation as a weapon of war. They also give political backing to their murder squads unleashed on civilian populations during their illegal invasions. The police force that recommended charges is stuffed full of rapists and racists according to their own accounts. The same police force which covered for the paedophile prince.

With that kind of administration its no surprise that the general population of Britain are easily whipped up by a few tweets.

Leftists disrespect all power structures that they don't build and immediately sympathize with anyone who 'challenges' those in any way.

Thats simply not true. What people want (left right and center) is an even handed application of the law and a review of laws they consider to be bad. If you ignore what people want you get violence or in Britains case self harm in the form of Brexit

News / France and Germany plan to flood Poland with illegal migrants. [157]

@Bratwurst Boy
Looking at Europe it wouldn't be an over generalisation to say that migration increased after the fall of the wall. The question is what caused it, I think there are two causes firstly the movement of capital and people are always intertwined so globalisation contributed. The second is the creation of refugees with the crazy middle east wars. Both these things are a result of an unfettered right leaning economic agenda.

Nationalists play on the nostalgia we all have but tend to follow economic policies which are contrary to their main selling point. Thankfully they all hate each other and are certain to fail as they cant square their internal contradictions.

Wherever you live, do not vote for the left wing, it will lead to disaster......

In Britain 14 years of eccentric right wing governments led to a huge rise in unchecked migration, a hollowing out of public services, huge public debt and empty coffers. The British army is a shadow of its former self thanks to the right wing. the crazies erected trade barriers with their nearest neighbours and failed to strike any trade deals.

The Conservatives were rightly thrown out of government replaced with a slightly right of centre party who have been handed a poisoned chalice. The fiction that any party that is not from the traditional right must be socialist is clearly a symptom of mental illness. I have seen Starmer described as a Marxist which is the most ridiculous description since the IDF being described as the most moral army in the world.

that is what Trump is trying to fix

Well done Mr Trump, backing down again with an about face on lots of electronic stuff from China. Is this the third or fourth climbdown since retard day just 10 days ago. I suppose this was part of the plan all along. Only fully fledged members of the cult believe anything he says.

My tip for the day is avoid capricious leaders and buy Christmas decorations made by children somewhere other than China. Trump probably will back down again so China may be a goer. I wonder if China will ever buy American again.

Off-Topic / USA and The Middle East. [27]

Trump is doing exactly the right thing

What you mean is that Trump is doing exactly the same think as Biden.

Trump had demonstrated to the world that the US is not a partner in anything so why the hell do most European countries continually suck his d1ck. Its well past the point where Europeans need to grow a back bone and stand for the things they claim to support. The US is a hopeless case that can not be reformed, its people are either spineless or coerced into silence on its appalling human rights record. Russia is equally guilty in sucking up to Israel even and especially after the Zionists used their air force as human shields. Russia doesnt seem to realise or care that Israel is a US puppet state.

Its not just Israel rampaging across the middle east stealing territory, its NATO countries who continually invade and otherwise destablise the entire region. There is nowhere else on earth that demonstrates the bloody hypocrisy of the US and its poodles even when these poodles, including Poland, are insulted by big brother on a daily basis.

Off-Topic / What's your hobby? [191]

@Paulina
I'm one of those guys that can do things, make things and repair things.

Last year I decided to put a new floor all through the downstairs of my house so it would flow from one room to the next and be splendid. When I decide to do something I spend a lot of time thinking of exactly how to go about it. A friend from the allotments lays floors for a living and I tortured him. The basic choice was what kind of floor. I decided on solid hard wood. Next I decided to install a few additional electrical sockets and to insulate the heating pipes before putting the floor down. That mutated into totally rewiring the house which I did, every electrical cable, socket, light fitting and consumer unit (fuse box) was replaced. When I was doing that I discovered a major problem with insect infestation in the roof. I then had to replace the back half of the roof reusing the existing tiles. The front half will be done this spring/summer. The net result of that additional work was that my solid wood floor was downgraded to engineered wood. Engineered wood is softwood with a 7mm layer of hard wood on top, it goes together like click flooring but supposedly looks and feels like hard wood, it doesn't, It looks grand though but...

I used to restore those old VW camper vans which involved learning how to weld which I became competent at but never to an expert level. All my mates used to bring their cars to me or get me to fix stuff in their houses from central heating to plastering, putting new doors on a the like. It helped that My Da was a roofer and I worked on building sites and did homers from I was about 11 or 12. My job used to be to carry roofing tiles up to my Da while he did his stuff. I just like working with my hands and using a bit of brain power to do a safe and reasonable job.

I spend 8 hours a day in front of a computer and almost hate every second of it. I really enjoy working on the allotment, my shed is plumed into the mains water. I discovered that welding is a skill you need to practice when I decided to make a wood burning stove from an old gas cylinder. The stove works but looks really amateurish.

Thats a good thing to do, hope you planted them. If you dont have space you can grow wild flowers in containers but have to support them as they can be quite "leggy".

Wild flowers or sometimes called meadow flowers. I love calendula, they self seed every year on my plot. I often give these seeds to neighbours but allow a good few to bloom every year.

History / Why Poland is not Russia [260]

domination and globalisation led by the liberal fraction

If by liberal you mean centrist and left of centre parties and their backers well they picked up the baton late in the race. Globalisation was primarily driven by right wing parties to such an extent it became the orthodoxy then the other crowd joined the **** show. The reason they (left leaning) sold their souls was for electoral reasons. It's impossible to change anything in opposition and difficult to get elected on a mandate to stop job flight for example when people are living on credit with the lure of affordable consumer durables.

With Trump, the AfD or Reform in the UK Their chickens have come home to roost, right wing parties sold people a pup while doing their mates favours. Reagan economics who started the decline, was and is based on the quick endorphin rush of credit. Centre and supposed left leaning parties trotted (no pun intended) along behind them. The net result is that most persuadable people no longer trust established parties.

There does appear to be a paradigm shift under way on the globe. The so called rules based order has been revealed to be a sham, turbocharged for example by the onslaught on Palestine not just Gaza and the outrage over the ICC charging Netanyahu et al. Signatures of the ICC stating they wouldn't up hold its warrants is, I believe it's death knell, It fell at the first hurdle. Old alliances have been fractured and new ones forged especially the shift of attitude in the global south. I suppose the Communist bogey man can't be used to keep the kleptocracies on side.

The most supposedly interesting thing is the arguments used, front and centre are the usual wedge issues which are as old as politics, nothing new there. Secondly, attempts to absolve what may be called traditional voices from any responsibility are laughable. The herd of "independent thinkers" all wading in the same shallow pool will be funny in about 20 years but today they are as useful as cannon fodder for billionaires. Finally, big media platforms and their ideas of free speech are so clearly compromised they will be regulated to death.

What path Poland takes is crucial it should throw its weight behind Europe. I know you don't like the EU and believe it's a German centric operation. I have problems with the EU in that I think it's too economically right wing but at the end of the day it's better being in fighting for reform than out howling at the moon.
