History / What do Poles owe to Jews? [593]

Bottom line: I owe what the judge says I owe. For the rest, call God or pray.

History / What do Poles owe to Jews? [593]

Exactly what Jews owe for living in Poland since that royal moron invited them centuries ago and for their criminal activities as the UB and the Soviet agents.

Life / The Pole, as an example of a perfect Russophobe, in a spherical vacuum [42]

And telling the Russians that they are seen in Poland as an enemy in perpetuity is helping Poles how? Poland should do everything that comes naturally to make this relationship as normal as humanly possible without being as fake as it is with Germany.

How about sending a delegation to their May 9 parades? What would be the downside?

Since, as some claim, Jews were Poles, the question is what Poles owe Poles.
A half-Jew, half-Pole, will he pay himself?

Life / Going Smartphone Free - taking off in Poland? [47]

Smartphones are terrible. They track you.
Smartphones are wonderful. They track you. Many innocent people got off the suspect list when the cops saw where they were when the crime was committed.

What I like about flip phones is the sound they make when you are done. Smartphones are so girly. Second, that I don't have to know which way is up when it rings. Just open it and you are good to go. Third, smartphones have to be handled by the edges or they will do something you don't want. I hate it.

Im all for it!

Me too but it's not going to happen if only for the camera. Phone cameras are so good now that nobody is dragging their Canons anymore. They are heavy, look ridiculous and the pics are not one bit better.

What do Polish people think of the Asia and Middle East?
Nobody gives a damn what Polish people think of Asia but the swamp in DC should think about what Xi does. Quoting from

the-sun.com/news/3151814/world-war-3-fear-china-threatens-war-taiwan-independence/

WORLD War 3 fears have risen again after China vowed it will invade Taiwan if it seeks independence as the US Navy flexes its military muscle.

Beijing warned Taiwan today that any move toward gaining independence would mean "war".

Say what you want about China and Xi but it's refreshing to read unambiguous English that does not include "dire consequences", "peaceful measures", or "international opinion" - the language of the Western weasels with their "red lines".

Language / Endearment, friendship, etc. in Polish [38]

You can call "moj kochany" a stranger.

It should be avoided in all situations unless you are in that special joking mood, only within the family and when addressing a female if the speaker is a man. When I start a sentence with "my darling..." or equivalent, my wife says, "what do you want now?"

Language / Endearment, friendship, etc. in Polish [38]

but the word itself isn't patronizing.

You are right. It's not. It's how it's used 99% of the time that eventually makes it patronizing. Just as "buddy" here. Or even worse, bud, pal,...

It depends on the intentions of the person using it.

Again, no argument. Here, even fu*ck you, a-holes can be said in terms of endearment if spoken to a group of old friends and in the right voice.

In my opinion as an observer, kochana, darling, and similar are meant to neutralize the negativity of the rest of the sentence since they don't add anything of substance to it, at best, or be a putdown. Using the other person's first name will do fine.

It's been over 50 years but I can still hear it..."no kochaaana, co ty tam wiesz..." with that kochaaaaaana longer than it needs to be.

Language / Your perception of the Polish accent [145]

The most annoying and the most pretentious English comes from the NE old money, rich snobs. It sounds like a sickening blend of British and American - especially when spoken by older women that wanted to be sopranos. To them, it's caaa, not car.

Language / Your perception of the Polish accent [145]

She's hard for me to understand, not as bad as the Scots..

English is what you hear on the ABC, CBS, and NBC evening news. All others are poor imitations. Some are very irritating - as if they were designed to make them less comprehensible to the lower class outsiders and foreigners. That is why I don't watch British movies.

Joe Biden could trigger 'major war with China' over Taiwan - Pentagon insider breaks cover

That was the title. Down below...

Beijing insists Taiwan is part of its sovereign territory, and has refused to rule out using force to seize the island.

I agree and the sooner, the better for the US.

He added: "We should learn from our history in Southeast Asia and not shed American blood for another lost cause."

This one would be worse than hell. Vietnam is one thing. China is another.

Conclusion:

In his letter Mr Gayl argued the US should "refrain from militarily intervening" in any conflict between China and Taiwan.

But not everything is lost. Taiwan will get full support from this forum and Poland. Moral, of course. The hard stuff, PF posters will happily leave for the US.

My advice for the PF posters: sent Xi some of your thoughts and maybe he will reconsider. Who knows...

Law / Polish Police and Their Tactics [204]

A totally meaningless verdict

Great post. Thank you.

The existence of intent to kill and the absence of intent to kill

...is everything. Intent - life no parole, No intent - an accident and a slap. Add to this PTSD cops have from dealing with the scum that wants them dead every day, and he should be home now.

to the REPUBLIC of China, not the commies. The ROC gov escaped to

If Taiwan was part of China after 1945 even for one minute, it was part of China. The fact that the government of China "escaped" to Taiwan and that commies are bad people has zero relevance.

I don't think they are remotely comparable.

I am not claiming that they are comparable. Only to deny the US the right to bi*tch about how unjust and illegal similar events are. Using the Civil War as a reference, every annexation, conquest, and disregard of the "will of the people" is pure bs. Which gives China a license to take Taiwan at any time it wants.

argument that Taiwan isn't a rogue breakaway.

But a sure proof that they want to stay as a breakaway from China the way the South wanted to stay separate from the US. No difference except for the thousands of dead Americans.

Would do. Such a language perfectionist and educator as you

I appreciate the compliment (I am assuming it was a compliment) and admit to my only imperfection and the tendency to skip words that my brain - yes, I have one - thinks are there but are, in fact, missing. It's a well-known mental disorder so I am not the only one.

History / Why Was D-Day So Significant for Poland ? [266]

.does that make the Russians for compliant and guilty for those 20 million murdered people?

If they knew and supported it - yes. In 1938 and on, Germans knew about and supported the acquisitions and wars.

History / Why Was D-Day So Significant for Poland ? [266]

1933 until 1943 had been "The German Reich"....and between 1943 till 1945 it was "The Greater German Reich".

To keep things simple, we are allowed good-faith abbreviations. Like Poland vs the Republic of Poland. "Nazi Germany" is not a good-faith abbreviation. It's an in-your-face, flagrant editorial.

"Soviets" means also Communist, at least members of the communist party..

Wrong and wrong.

Soviet:

1. an elected local, district, or national council in the former Soviet Union.
2. a citizen of the former Soviet Union.
