News / The Mayor of Warsaw Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz cuts down 150,000 trees in the Poland's capital. [84]

This term is in common

No-one I know has ever heard Pislamic State. For one thing, Poles do not discuss politics in English. Gronkowiec (staph infection) is extremely apt -- symptoms creep on you when it's too late for a cure. She is almost universally regarded as a toxic person and consummate hyporcite triyng to feign innocence with that phoney nervous smile or hers. Her own family has profited from her property scam but she prefers to stonewall rather than fess up, apologise and step down. Must be taking lessons from the Walrus..

Waltz

That doesn't answer the question why is her tree-chopping being brought out only just now when it has been going on for six years. And the property-restitution scam has dragged on for years, but Gronkowiec-Waltz is saying her underlings were to blame even though her family got a big slice of the pie.. She is poltically responsible for her whole administration after all.

She shouldbe honoured for her work benefiting the capital and a municipal anthem titled "Waltzing Gronkowiec" should be dedicated to her in gratitude.

The hypocrites were shedding crocodile tears again over people allowed to cut down their own trees on their own property. That law is about to be revised, but the same complainers haven't made a peep about Warsaw 's mayor Gronkiewicz-Waltz ordering the obliteration of 150,000 trees on public land in Warsaw alone over the past 6 years. Beautiful old trees were cut down to make way for private developers who most likely provided some added "incentives" to the town-hall gang.

Lest someone complain of unreliable soruces, this comes from the sole, true and credible source for many PF-ers -- the one and only Kosher Courier.

News / Good news: Poland's PiS to rule at least 12 years -- Morawiecki [78]

single tree

The tree thing is about to be withdrawn... Crooked judges who regard themselves as constituing a privileged caste will indeed will be done away with, and the school system backed by a majority of Poles will be restored. Already 500+ is producing tangible results. 30% more kids went away on holidays during the winter break just ending, last year there were 16,000 more births than in 2015 and maternity wards are busier than ever... But that's not all folks. Little by little the 25-years-late lustration process will finally get consummated and the self-proclaimed post-PRL elites will get consigned to the dust heap of history, a thriving indigenous industry will emerge and Polska będzie Polską!

News / Good news: Poland's PiS to rule at least 12 years -- Morawiecki [78]

The Polish government's economic tsar who combines two key ministries --developmertn sand finance -- has predicetd that PiS will govern Poland for at least 12 years. "Today society wants leadership not continuation (of PO rule). The strategy of respnsible devleopment is the road map of a more just economy and society. That is its masterplan," Morawiecki explained.

Longing for "real" foods

Indeed, we are mostly doomed to today's fake foods. However, if someone really feels strongly about it, there's nothing stopping them buying a cow and making their own cheese, butter, buttermilk, sour cream, etc. the traditonal way with no preservatives, stabilisers, acidity regulators, gum arabic, flavour enhancers, artificial thickeners and God knows what all. In fact, such home-made dairy products could probably find a loyal niche clientele and be the source of lucrative profits.

different consistencies

Very simple: more water or less will change the consistency. Remember -- this is nto the rela thing. Commercial buttermilk hasn't been within 1,000 miles of a liump of butter. Also the yellow flecks in some American buttermilk is probably just a food-colouring gimmick to create the impression of butteriness.

What is buttermilk in the states

ALso in Poland and elsewhere these days -- a lab-designed chemically enhanced concoction. Buttermilk used to be the byproduct of butter-making. After the butter appeared in the extensivley churned cream, the left over liquid was buttermilk. Today's commercial buttermilk is powdered milk, water and lab-produced cultures and enzymes that cause the fermentation. All the processed food sold today is highly "chemicalised". (Dunno if there's such a word in English but there shoild be -- the Polish is schemizować, pp schemizowany.)

Why wouldn`t they?

So it seems you're the second "waste o' breath" poster on PF, totally horse-blinkered and absolutely incapable of logical dialogue.

trace of Slavdom

Your Slavic obsession is ridiculous. Maybe Serbia would be better off if it got Romanised!? There's nothing special or superior about Slavic -- just another ethnic family. I'm sure no-one in Romania is dreaming about getting re-Slavicised, neither do Bulgarians want to be re-Turkified.

News / President Duda rules out homo marriage in Poland as banned by the constitution [172]

PiS will not remove religion from schools

If PiS did that it would be the equivalent of raping young children, depriving them of genuine, time-tested values and turning them over to the vultures and hyenas of commercial pop culture, recreational drugs, violence, "if it rocks your boat, go for it", "róbta co chceta" and all the other liberal-leftist "advancements" they are subjected to by those out after their pocket money.

good as gold

A decent party such as PiS keep their election promises. Tusk promised no tax rises and as soon as he got to power he raised VAT from 22 to 23%. Trump is also keeping his word building a wall to keep out undesirbale aliens, restricting Muslim immigration and not forcing taxpayers to bankroll prenatal infanticide. Eventually America may cease being a cessspol of decadent "progressivism" and return to its trarditional Christian roots. It's a good thing Poland hasn't embarked on the road to legally sanctioned immorality.

News / President Duda rules out homo marriage in Poland as banned by the constitution [172]

Radio Poland has reported President Andrzej Duda as saying the issue of marriage is "clearly and expressly regulated by the Constitution". Asked by TV Republika whether "international organisations, various lobby groups and also some European countries" could force Poland to accept gay marriage, Duda replied: "I unequivocally repeat: marriage in accordance with the Polish Constitution is a union between a man and a woman." Neither does Poland allow civil partnerships for same-sex couples, reflecting the majority view in this staunchly Catholic country.

It's probably only a matter of time before Trump gets round to reinstating the Bush-era Defence of Marriage Act (DOMA) which banned same-sex marriage in the USA.

Genealogy / THE MEANING AND RESEARCH OF MY POLISH LAST NAME, SURNAME? [4500]

MOCIAK

Mociak: Possible etymology -- Moc, Polish equivalent of the German name Motz. When Moc fathered a son, presto -- instant Mociak (patronymic nick)!
Only about seven dozen Mociaks in Poland, mostly down south in and around Katowice and Zamość.

Feedback / Would you favour a free and open PF where people could post under their real names? [55]

Check my posts on FB groups

How can anyone check on FB when they don't know your real name. It can't be Hairy Belafonte, can it?

an immediate and permanent ban

That would be wonderful. The forum would gain a new lease of life. Goading and baiting by the "Master Baiter" aka the Liar Laureate would cease and people could enage in meaningful discourse without his intrusive and obsessive badmouthing and genrally toxic behaviour.

hiding behind your nick

Don't forget who propsoed scrapping anonymity, and it was seconded by H. He probably did so knowing the consensus would be against it. I doubt if he would want all his particulars known, although he loves to pry, snoop and cyber-stalk. voes to. Would yoiu personally agree to post udner your full name and email? I would if everyone else also went along.

who does advent in the US?

America is much too big a place to make such sweeping generalisations. Many German Americans attach quite a lot of importance to Advent wreaths, as do the Dutch (Holland, MI for example) to St Nicholas and PolAms to Wigilia. If you are irreligious, you probably associate mainly with those of similar ilk rather than with devout church-goers, meanng that you may not be too plugged into that parficular communtiy.

Good thing you gave the gist because the link produced: internal service error (whatever that means). More Gatesian gobble-dee-gook which I cannot stomach!
I wonder if Beranrd simply agreed to sign up or actually snitched on someone. He never came across as a commie sympathiser.

homophobic/racist/xenophobic

I reject and do not buy into PC notions of what is racist, homophobic. xenophobic or what have you. There is nothgin wrong with a little ethnic humour. And don't be so millennial. This was raised a while back and I have since learnt a bit about them. They can be claled the WTF generation. They have no problem with foul language and swear words but get all riled up over what they call "hate speech" with its -isms and -phobias. But not all hate speech. Christophobia and other forms of Church-bashing, even ridiculing God and Jesus is OK, but their pet minorities are the new sacred cows.

Epiphany

Warsaw Archbishop Kazimierz Nycz was largely instrumental in launching the Three Kings Cavalcade. This is a great family occasiosn, the Three Kings arriving on horseback and camelback, kids dressed as angels and devils engage in a pageant symybolising the struggle between good and evil (guess which side wins?!), other religious, historic and folkloric figures all wending their way through Old Town and ending with communtiy kolędy singing. A beautiful new custom in the spirit of the season. Also Polish Catholics mark their doorways on the Epiphany with blessed chalk and write: K+M+B 2017. After 6 Jan priests make their annual pastoral rounds to the homes of parishioners. Some of the shop-till-you-drop ballyhoo has been seeping over into Poland but has yet to destroy the beautiful old traditions.

never been my favorite holiday

Nor is it mine if one thinks in terms of the noisy, brash, gaudy, tacky, razzle-dazzle shop till you drop frenzy into which hyper-commercialised Christmas has deteriorated. But anyone able to appreciate the solemn, spiritual and symbolic (rather than the commercial, frivolous and bacchic) has to get blown away by Polish Wigilia. In fact, probably no other nation has any single occasion crammed to overflowing with so many beautiful once-a-year customs, symbols, lore, legend, delicacies and uplifting kolędy. By comparison, Christmas Day is an anti-climactic also-ran.
