None. I would do exactly the same but when it comes to a non-Pole like me trying to guess ingredients for recipes, I am going on the fact that sultanas are not mentioned in Polish cuisine. Even if they are big raisins :)

I can think of dishes with raisins but not sultanas. Usually Xmas or Easter though. Jewish carp/Babka/Kutia/Chalka

But the number plate isn't shown in the original pic of the van. You only gave the reg number in post #450. If I'd seen the flag sign of course I'd have known it was a Scottish plate.

That's an older model 2012 van and the MA it starts with in the reg corresponds to Manchester/Merseyside.

Could be the end of the leek lifecycle but they can be produced in response to extreme weather. Cut them off and the leek will keep growing.

I'm not sure what's going on either. The thread title has been changed to include the words ' Żurek soup', so it now looks like I was suggesting a type of soup that the OP already knew about. There's also a quote in my post that I didn't make.

On other threads I've had quotes removed with the end result that what I was saying no longer made sense.

Maybe they don't have a choice but to take them. You're presuming that grandparents have retired and aren't still working. That might not be the case.

The soup sounds like Żurek, Polish sour rye soup, which is made from fermented rye flour and is traditionally served at Easter.

In Poland this is called Twaróg ( Polish farmer's cheese )

It sounds like your mother was trying to extract any remaining liquid in the cheese by pressing it. Maybe someone else here can help as I've not heard of this method before.
