History / Poles and (Polish) Jews... Victims of war... and beyond [380]

over 6000 Poles and nearly 5000 Dutch in the Yad Vashem.

I say again - so what?
Its like with medals for soldiers, not everyone who did something "heroic" got a medal.
There are always circumstances like the fact that Dutch after war hadn't been encumbered by such a detail (seems like you do not understand implication of it ) - as Poland under soviet rule.

I know how the Germans treated PL,

that what I question, you don't know!

I have recommended the book many times before, but it's a standard classic: Ashes in the wind by Jacques Presser. Read it

OK I will!

we don't deny our bad sides and that's a major difference.

what you are about? Who deny bad sides? well, maybe same are not aware about Polish bad sides during the WWII but only because there were minor in no way comparable to really heroic deeds.

I mean Poles didn't have SS-division or government collaborating with Germans, action of individuals it minor and unimportant detail and you trying to make it big, I suppose for philosophical reason.

History / Poles and (Polish) Jews... Victims of war... and beyond [380]

Why can't you? All occupied countries suffered. Some more than others, but bottomline is that everybody suffered. Learn to accept that.

contrary to your words I know that everybody suffered but it doesn't mean that everybody suffered the same .....
It shouldn't matter who suffered and to what degree but it does ......first of all Jews telling their stories, then other by making insolent and baseless allegation about conduct of Poles during the WWII

It does matter and you know it or you should know it ....and I'm not talking about feelings but about fact, you can check the way German treated Poles and Dutch, there are records ...and then but only then you can make comparisons,

When you have knowledge.
by the way your last words tell me that you are not M-G (bigger and meaner than ever) but that you lack discipline of mind.

Listen, certain things happened in certain way and there are documents ....you cannot discus facts, and the fact is that legislature of German occupants made the law for Poles and made the law for Dutch.

And the law for Poles were much harder than the law for Dutch.
I want you to accept this fact, that all!Take your time and check it
What this mean or faults of Poles or Poland we can discuss later!

History / Poles and (Polish) Jews... Victims of war... and beyond [380]

myth

awful lot of ppl

those are words of artisan no historian, your feeling on the subject has nothing to do with the facts.
and the facts say that in Poland every person of the family which happened to give an aid to Jews were shot on the spot, no matter what kind of aid would be loaf or hiding place .....

In case of NL some people were killed but few for sole reason of giving an aid to Jews nor their families were summarily executed,

ome ppl here react exactly as expected when confronted that other countries did heroic things as well.

>^..^<

I have no problem with heroic deeds of others but with your constant refusal to comprehend that German occupation in Poland were definitely harsher and cruel than in ti

he west.
I-S( Your stubborn ignorance of the facts could be called moronic,Me dijo)

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1090]

Are you suggesting that Poland isolate itself, Ironside?

nope, I think academical question which is Poland in the eyes of the west will be even more devoid of meaning if Poland will not shake off bastards claiming to be Polish elite.

To be or not to be for Poland not as colony but independent entity is on stake and believe me Seanus western views on Poland are secondary issues. Which could be deal with in due time. Strong and successful state has many friends.

Only the views of Poles matter, is that what you are saying?

Well, yes!

o, inward investment is ok to prop up Polish business but any other input isn't?

well, that is an specific question it all depends on circumstances....

The fact is, Ironside, most Poles don't have a clue what the Polish voice really is.

I know! I tell you more Poles are divided and that division is real, different values and views on a many subjects!
There is hidden conflict and people are confused because they don't understand what that conflict is about. I would say that is a conflict of civilizations and I don't mean term "civilization" in the light of Arnold Toynbee's.

I may add that material situation of general Polish population, doesn't encourage people to participate actively in politics.

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1090]

I can't believe you see fit to dismiss this.

If Poland will not change and regain her own voice and role, due to internal forces, then views of foreigners are unimportant, anyway views of outsiders are only of secondary import if any...

Life / Are foreigners welcome in Poland? [305]

That's the point I made loads of times: (some) Poles think they can discriminate galore in Poland and yet they complain when discriminated when abroad. What goes around, comes around I'd say.

Gentlemen's I would point out that Dutch as well as the British were emigrating in their drovers for hundreds of years, also they have kept the large chunk of the planet in their sway.

How does it compare to last five or four years when Poles started to move about on the serious scale?
Anyhow, its funny to talk about immigration within EU, according to propaganda its supposed to be one country.
It never case to amaze me as people from old EU country;s are ignorant in a ways of the EU policy.
Yet, they complain, now?!
Poland is open to foreigners from EU country's, from Vietnam and country's of former Soviet Union, sporadic voices on the very forum (they could be anyone) mean nothing.

I would say that reluctance in acceptance mass immigration of blacks is not to be scorned as long as policy is implemented by state rather than personal attitude of individuals.

In my opinion the real problem is omnipotence of state, so called nanny state.
Its sends a wrong signal to voters - in exchange for a vote they expect bread and entertainment!

News / Should Poland made an energy bridge deal with Russia? [122]

The danger of being an energy bridge between two powerful neighbours is that that both would like to secure it.
Meaning influencing internal affairs of Poland, its sound even more plausible because Russia and Germany have long history of doing so.

Seems that so far Germans had an upper hand as they secured 80% of mass-market market in Poland. One can safely assume that PO is indebted :D

News / Should Poland made an energy bridge deal with Russia? [122]

USA doesn't care about Poland. They interest in this country is only about dibs.

So, In EU Germany is ruling and place of Poland in Germans plans is to be a bridge - energy bridge.
Good deal with Russia wouldn't be bad for Poland.

Language / Polish was chosen the HARDEST LANGUAGE in the world to learn... :D [1558]

And the 16th century was 200 years ago?

I wrote, for 200 years not 200 years ago :P

When? And who attended the school? The poor started attending any sort of school about 200 - 150 years ago. Which is not the 16th century.

I mean that the language in use nowadays were the language of the elite few centuries back!
As a matter of fact commoner attended schools in Poland (Crown to be precise) about 500 years ago (hence Polish Golden Age)!

You seriously mean to tell me that Latin was used for everyday communication i.e., when discussing the weather, asking about the price of grain, or chatting up ladies at a party, in 18th - 19th century Poland?

yes, in Poland XVI century, you could communicate with a shoemaker in Latin :)

What language did they speak? And was it in any way different, grammar-wise, from the Polish spoken by the upper classes?

Whose language they teach at school ?

Well, in Poland about 200 years Latin was used for everyday communication, also for more years that I care to remember Latin was the language of correspondence and King's court, so it is more likely than Latin greatly influenced Polish :P

Latin/Germanic/Anglo base that they share.

Polish is stuffed with Latin words and grammar is formed after Latin, I agree about this Germanic part!
And French greatly influenced( contributed to the formation of the English language) English language during the middle ages, as you know...

History / Piłsudski, like Hitler and Stalin (according to some Lithuanians) [144]

there two separated issues:
* Nazi like organization few and far between, they are loons :) and their will never gain a ounce of real support!
* Some people in Poland don't like people of colour, and some will act on this ....but sometimes is only a pretext, as could be anything really!

and last but not least there is law which should punish any behaviour like assault seriously but it doesn't ....hence plenty of morons at large .....plus some things but in different thread maybe
