News / Poland's post-election political scene [4080]

Many Poles prefer KOK (Komtiet Obrony Koryta) as the more apt version.

"Many Poles" suffer from projection, assuming that others have the same motive as they do.

. The good changes are many and thank God for that.

Name some....

they still have to undo many a Platformer legislative dud

They're just undoing legislation in order to undo it, busywork with no real meaning and no direction.

They're kind of trapped because the suckers that believe their idea about a strong independent Poland with a strong internationally recognized national brand don't have the first idea of the economic dislocations that breaking form the EU would bring about and don't realize that a strong national brand takes decades to build and can't be rushed with a bunch of goose-headed legislation and by rabidly pursuiing crazy people politics like Smolensk and total bans on abortion.

And the less said about how they've managed to damage a real national brand (Polish Arabian Horses) the better.

By lying about who was going to be in charge and about what they were going to do.

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

I'm unsure how many of the PolAm guys, who so vehemently support the idea of women bearing their rapists kids, are fathers themselves.

Yes, why are they so eager for rapists to successfully reproduce? Most of the time I think aborting the result of rape is by far the better more ethical decision.

But then the RC has never understood the idea of genes. For hundreds of years they gathered together the smartest and most learned of men.... and forbade them from reproducing. Not very sensible.

(uggh, too disgusting to even metnion!)

Then why did you bring it up (apropos of nothing)? Fascinated much?

If fertilized eggs are human then spontaneous abortion is the biggest killer in history and it needs to be the focus of most medical research.

But if a woman purposely does things to miscarry

So you want to put women who miscarry in prison is you're not satisfied with their behavior. The mask comes off....

Abortion =/= murder in the minds of many, probably most, probably almost all people. That's why it's a question of civil law.

About 30 % of all fertilized eggs spontaneously abort, does this mean these women are murderers?

No privileges make up for loosing control over one's body

But.... hand kissing! Womens' Day!

I am a women and yet your equal.

I doubt if he agrees....

I'm wondering why they're brining this up now unless the church doesn't have confidence in the longterm prospects of PiS staying in power and they want to push through as much of their agenda as they can while they can...

in accordance with the PRL ideals

Poland under a PiS government = PRL but with Rome instead of Moscow.

Nothing more to say, really.

I always thought Poznań were a bunch of idiots

I'm sure they return the favor. Admit it, you hate them because they've always been more economically and civically adroit than the Warschauer Volk.

The Senate has adopted a draft amendment to the law prohibiting the promotion of communism and other totalitarian ideologies.

Why don't they just put everyone who ever worked for the PRL in jail?

But I would favour tightening and vigorously enforcing penalties for illegal backroom abortionists and the owners of abortion mills.

What punishments do you want for the women seeking abortions? If you want abortion restricted don't want to send women who seek or receive illegal abotions to prison then you don't think of women as moral agents.

Szydło has come out as saying that she supports an absolute ban

Then she is objectively pro-rape if she thinks a woman who becomes pregnant as a result of rape shouldn't be able to abort the rapist's spawn...

Life / Specific information about Polish healthcare system? [19]

I can't speak about private insurance, but when you get a prescription from a doctor with a contract with the national system the doctor indicates how much is reimbursed on the prescription itself (for example 30% or 50%) and then the pharmacist applies that to the cost and its subtracted before I pay. I don't concern myself with it at all.

addendum. just asked a friend in the medical field and he says some private doctors have a governmental contract for prescriptions only in which case prescriptions by them are handled just as public doctors.

If a private doctor has no contract with the government then it's all out of pocket for the patient.

. Doesn't matter what kind of doctor it is

Unless you want a service that's not covered in their contract with the NFZ in which case you find another healthcare provider whose contract includes the service or you pay (with no compensation).

I had this situation where I had a referral but the place they recommended didn't include anesthesia for the procedure I needed (and I wanted anesthesia) I could either pay or find a different provider that did provide anesthesia as part of their contracted services (I managed the latter but many people can't and either do without or pay out of pocket).

And when you go to the family doctor do you have to advance the fee then you are paid back by the NFZ?

No. You don't pay anything. Of course not everyone is insured in the national public healthcare system, but there's a computerized national data base of who's covered and how. A family doctor won't accept you if you're not insured. (My situation is maybe not typical as my "family doctor" is the outpatient clinic at a research hospital but I've never paid anything there or for any services obtained on referral).

I'm not sure how the private insurance sector works (I just use the public system). When I've used private services I just pay as the services are rendered and there's no compensation.

If you're insured then you don't pay anything for services that are covered by the National Sickness Fund (NFZ). You always go to your family doctor first and when you get a referral it's considered proof of insurance when you take the referral somewhere else.

If you go private (or opt for non-covered services) then you pay 100% for that with no repayment.

Rubbish. The terrorists could enter Poland any time they want:( Nothing to do with the question of refugees, and you know it.

So there's nothing anyone can possible do to stop angry young muslim men from blowing things and people up? Is that your point?

It most certainly seems related to the arrest of the little miserable murderer from Paris and the Islamic State has claimed responsibility and many agents of the Islamic State have entered Europe through refugee routes. So...

Does she emphasise that the current government is functioning in a state of constant, aggressive siege by a ruthless, disloyal oppostion

Since when, I ask once more, is the opposition supposed to be loyal to the governing party? The opposition is supposed to be loyal to the greater interests of the country and the rule of law.

You want the opposition to cheer when the government uses the consitution as toilet paper?

depicts Poland as a country in turmoil and a palce best avoided

Attacks on the rule of law and socialist voodoo economics (which will do for Poland what they did for Greece) are doing that.

how PiS ran their election campaign? The whole campaign was based on Poland allegedly being in ruins

And a newly elected president telling Polish people in a foreign country that Poland is not a just society did no help.

Life / Babcia or Busha - any social class difference? [359]

Jesziwa

Doesn't look nice, I prefer 'jeszywa'

The traditional prohibition against i after sz, cz, (d)ż and ł is strong enough that foreign words that contain those sequences tend to maintain their original spelling

that's why there's

chipsy instead of czipsy
gin instead of dżin
and
weekend instead of łikend

dżinsy is the only one that is much used but jeansy gets many more google hits than does dżinsy

Maybe kot (cat) (the o is more like Spanish than American) but that's weird for a girl (it's a masculine form) and it's more ime used of spouses than children.

Life / Polish movies with English subtitles [87]

Do you know of a source for either Polish subtitles that match their Polish dubbings, or Polish subtitles for Polish movies?

Dubbing scripts never match subtitle scripts in any language. Subtitles have to cut from a quarter to a third of the content in dialogue (as do voiceover scripts).

sure..but i hoped he would wise up

No. You fantasized that he would. Hope is based on some kind of evidence. Absent that, you're just thinking "Wouldn't it be great if Macierewicz stopped taking those crazy pills?"

He already knows what he thinks happened and will not accept any evidence to the contrary. The oppression of Poland by Russia is his religion and religious belief is not generally vulnerable to contrary evidence.

Macierewicz on the other hand is Macierewicz, and therefore he can do what he wants without consequence

Macierewicz is to PiS what Polonius3 is to the forum, he can yell all his mad roundtable stuff at the forum people and there are no consequences....
