Study / British School of Warsaw in Wilanow [73]

Thank you, terri! HOORAYY, we agree on that.

For this reason, Poland must do something to insure that it DOES pay her English teachers a decent to above decent salary to make certain that they get top quality native English speakers!!

From our lips to Duda's ear:-)

I take it then the instructors are all native English, or at the very least BILINGUAL-native speakers.

News / Germany After the EU and the Russian Scenario - future of the European Union and Poland [310]

With your last statement, you might well be right!

Nonetheless, I certainly equate post-Civil War segregationists, for whom the "War Between The States" is still brewing, with post-War Nazis for whom Hitler's ideology is very much alive; they're both OUT TO LUNCH:-)

Hofer hasn't moved on with the times, Van der Bellen has, and the far-right has simply got to acknowledge this, even if they can't bring themselves to accept change!!

Jefferson Beauregard Sessions from Alabama is living TODAY, and all his anti-Bellum bad manners, such as addressing African-American colleagues as "Boy!" is nothing short of unacceptable.

No soap there, Maf! The Nazi party is within relatively recent memory, many of whose members or followers are still very much alive, albeit rather geriatric at this stage:-) The Civil War to which you refer ended in 1865 and the last from that era died out around the end of the 1940'sLOL

It certainly should bother you that the FPO nearly won, and that the far-right throughout Europe are poised to assume office! It's precisely when times are tough that core values are most desparately needed. Without either optimism or idealism, mankind reverts back to animal kind and certainly nobody wants that.

Ahemm, sorry Maf, but the FPO was started almost immediately post-War in Austria by ex-Nazis, eager to return their disillusioned homeland to the "good old days", I'm surprised at you. Or is that just typical understatement?:-)

Joerg Haider schmoozed his way into voters hearts, even appearing with a Jewish historian on a Canadian talk show, but was nonetheless a Nazi to the bone!!!

For whatever it's worth to anyone, van der Bellen and the Greens won in Austria, thankfully defeating Hofer's FPOE:-)

Perhaps now, Pegida and AfD won't feel quite so emboldened. Germany's Sigmar Gabriel of the Left Coalition of Merkel's party watched the Austrian elections with baited breath and expressed a deep sigh of relief at yesterday's outcome!

Italy's Renzi though wasn't as fortunate.I think we can forget about Francois Hollande for the forseeable future as well.

Feedback / Member warning system to prevent abuse / spam / off-topic posts [145]

Prob is though, it's never gonna happen, because PF is dedicated to inclusion rather than exclusion, and unless someone's "civil rights" have been provably violated though trash talk, the alleged "victim" hasn't a leg to stand on:-)

Study / Poland-Germany university transfer? [16]

First off, in order to study within the EU, knowledge of the target language is a must. While many countries offer university courses in English, they aren't always taught by native English speakers:-)

My experience as both an exchange student in Germany as well as visiting instructor of ESL, is that any talk of "credit transfer" TO a German univerisity requires that a working knowledge of the language be attested to.

Language / Polish gravestone translation [45]

True. In the end, only a true native or even bilingual native Polish speaker could "fill in the blanks"!
Unfortunately, I'm not one of them:-)

Language / Polish gravestone translation [45]

In Belaruś, most likely the language used would have been White Russian (or even Ruthenian!), Yiddish, of course, if it was a Jewish cemetary:-)

Language / Polish gravestone translation [45]

In truth, it's more am issue of the spelling transcription, for example,"jeco", and "pamier", both of which are not even standard Polish word forms!

Language / Polish gravestone translation [45]

Apologies, but the above transcription is so garbled in spots, I can barely make heads or tales of the whole thing:-)

The second line looks as though it ought to read "...pamięci żony" or "in memory of his wife".

Wish I could be more helpful!

Polonia / Let's talk about Sweden and other Scandinavian countries [236]

Although the (im)migrants perhaps oughtn't have been allowed in in the first place, allowed in they were and the countries simply must find a humane means of discouraging wanton abuse of the system!

What that solution would be, I honestly can't say unfortunately. I do know that glib answers to complex questions in the end help nobody:-)

Oh, the typo, yes, thanks! Indeed, your English AND your Polish both look excellent:-)

Welcome, Haydi _Kroft!

As you post that you are a Bulgarian native speaker looking to learn Polish, how authentic is your English? I ask because you offer assistance with those wishing to learn English and I was only curious whether you are bilingual, that's all:-)

News / How serious is existence of Lithuania as independent state between Poland and Russia ? [72]

The Baltic States were under the Soviet heel for so very long that by the time the early '90's rolled around, they were already prepared, at least psychologically, for the freedom from Russian domination for which they had hungered for generations:-)

Poland and Lithuania also share a common cultural heritage, as Poland's foremost 19th century bard, namely Mickiewicz, considered his country as Lithuania, even though he wrote exclusively in and surely set the standard for Polish!

Polonia / Let's talk about Sweden and other Scandinavian countries [236]

As far though as Sweden is concerned, if only to return to the topic post, she is having a belly full of the whole migrant issue and might soon follow the conservative JOBBIK party, the PEGIDA and AfD along with the rest of the far-right groups on the continent of Europe before long.

Liberalism has been fraying at the edges for some time now!
