History / Why American military aid to Europe and Poland is important to America itself? [227]

But you have your own allies - the starving North Koreans, the mad mullahs of Iran and China. Plus all the other whackjobs, thieves and murderers of the world like Eritrea, Venezuela and for a while Syria.

What good did it do ?

And memo to NN military commanders - don't turn up for a fight with the free world with no ammo, no communications, no fuel and totally caned on home made booze

Anyway Putler and the NNs just said officially they are not signing the deal that Ukraine has already agreed to.

S&P down about 7 percent

News / Should Poland pay for gas in rubles? [194]

Don't think so - these guys Tavex will exchange almost anything and there is often a queue of misfits hanging around when they open the doors, but they don't seem to do rubels any more. Almost all other former UNNR currencies are still traded though.

As I said Bobko, this thread is not for politics

The good thing about the markets is you can't argue with the numbers - it is down and if you are not invested, like most people, then no need to worry.

If you are invested you need to understand reasons and what will turn this round.

Your explanation for inflation can sit next to PolAm's thoughts on VAT as examples of American ignorance

I have said before, this thread is not for you - no time wasters. Why not instead trawl the local newspaper see if there are any jaw dropping deals in the used car section (weird stains on the seats included)

Getting worse and worse

Sharply down this quarter end - Liberation Day looking more like Demolition Day.

Polish market also down after a pretty good March. Britain is about the only market performing ok this week

Won't get better until inflation gets better

Travel / About cars, electric and combustion in Poland. [162]

With cars it always was a level playing field - there were no tariffs in either direction and so it came down to consumer choice

American cars were not popular in crowded Europe and Asia - too big and too much fuel needed.

News / Nukes and Poland's Neutrality [105]

Golden Cow's latest idea is that the US will develop some new overpriced fighter, the F-47 (named after himself) but a special worse export version will be made.

Luckily not one grosz of our taxes will be spent on this because of course nobody will buy that POS

News / Building regional alliance to stabilize Eastern Europe. [236]

Definitely we should think about an operational plan with the Czechs and Romanians - the two other countries in this region that are economically developing and would be able to supply manpower and weapons. i think a coalition of the 3 plus our Baltic friends would be enough to beat the NNNs in a conventional war.

That's why it's important to keep Putler's filthy murderers hands off Romania

History / Why Poland is not Russia [260]

If by woke ideology you mean bathroom stuff - yes it might have got out of control

If, like many Trump voters you mean old whites sharing power with women and ethnic minorities, that will not be going away. I'm not sure if they will use their economic power or political power, but they are too numerous to defeat

In any case that's an internal US issue - I'm not sure why in conjunction with that they decided to upset everyone else on the planet - Canadians, Brits, Europeans, South Africans - all natural allies who shared the same values, drink beer and like free markets.

Only people they are nice to - Srusgoblinia and Israel

Me neither - halfway through this shitstorm my stockbroker has fallen out with the custodian bank and wants to move a bunch of my portfolio - an admin step that I know will result in missing funds, loads of electronic signatures and hidden costs

Poland has poor service and high costs for those who want to invest in stock markets

That is of course completely untrue - if the price of bangladeshi tomato pickers, fertilizer and tractor tyres goes up, I am going to either put the price of my tomatoes up, or I am not going to bother growing them, the Federal Reserve and the US government have nothing to do with it.

Maybe you should stick to engineering.

Yes correct - it will definitely lead to inflation and probably to higher wages

Nike is a bad example though - making those probably cost 30 dollars max, so you could add a lot to manufacturing cost. They are losing a lot of sales in poorer countries than the US though, as too expensive and Adidas and other new players like Hoka taking market share. i bought the stock in 2023 and it's been a real dog :(

Pretty steep correction and seems to be driven by tariffs and inflation plus low consumer confidence

Nasdaq falls are much deeper than the Dow - It's not just Tesla being hit - big falls in all the AI players

Very difficult in Poland to open a yen bank account unless you are doing physical business with Japan.

General rule - only use currencies where you have an income stream in that currency. lots of Poles learned that the hard way with swiss franc housing loans.

Anyway I know nothing about Japan other than what I learned in Warsaw's sushi bars. In times like these I will not do a lot of buying and selling - rather wait it out. At the moment in the US it is looking like a rout, but the weak dollar should provide some opportunities in a few months once Musk is out the picture and tariffs are forgotten.

News / Sikorski doctrine - Eastern Europe under threat. Poland's foreign policy. [203]

I expect there will be a formal apology tomorrow, after all Poland is a close ally, not woke, not a free loader.

There is just no way Golden Cow will accept his deputy insulting an important ally like Poland, and as a strong leader he won't hesitate to put it right.

Been mentioned several times already. There are plenty of EU tech and defence stocks but you won't get them cheap now.

Siemens, which I mentioned when you asked me for a stock tip - 70 percent up last 6 months
Thales, French electronics and aviation business, up 63 percent

You need to be careful of currency movements - the USD is very weak right now, so for an American, buying Euro stocks will be more expensive, and will only come back with political stability and deficit reduction in the US

Worth looking wt Britain too if you can deal with the taxes and political instability - BAE and Rolls Royce will both be expensive but you could think about smaller things like Chemring.

In the US I hold Harris and General Dynamics - both performing poorly. I expect it to continue - cancelled orders from Europe and Canada are likely. But I will probably hold on to them.

European markets are up strongly today - 3 percent in Poland and France m, 2 percent in Germany

Quite big inflows from the US to Europe plus some strong moves in defence and tech

If you are outside the US it's best to wait for the dollar to stabilize - right now I'm 7 percent down on US stocks and another 8 percent on the dollar

With the deficit increasing and inflation increasing it's going to take a while for the dollar to pick up.

Ouch - some more heavy falls today after tariff announcements.

Europe might have a down day tomorrow

Would be good for Trump to take a short holiday and let the market catch it's breath

Genealogy / Bryszkiewski - searching for my Polish roots [35]

I know Boleszyn as I have property close by. It's a tiny place with two small shops, a couple of ponds and a car wash. But more and more Warsaw people are getting summer houses up there.

German name is Bolleschin and it might have been majority German even after 1918.

I don't think I will be out there until Easter time but happy to take some photos if that would interest you

Would like to keep this thread free of politics unless it affects the markets.

In the case of the US then the markets are very afraid of US public deficits increasing after the new tax cuts and of inflation. Tariffs are pulling all stock markets down

As for DOGE - that's an internal issue, but clear that Tesla stock is having a disastrous 2025

I have no problem with individuals buying it - in theory it's their own risk and they should understand no government will bail them out.

When it does blow up however I know the crypto fools will blame it on everyone else - Mexicans, blacks, Putler, DEI, Biden, the EU or whatever.
