History / POLISH AND RUSSIAN FRIENDSHIP WILL LAST FOREVER [513]

so, sorry, but you're not any authority for me as far as Polish-Russian relations are concerned.

No need to be sorry. I never said I am. But, please notice that the unjust Russian invasion of Uke isn't simply about Polish-Russian relations. I'd go even as far as saying it's much more about US-Russian relations than Polish-Russian.

One thing I do find absolute lunacy is how all of a sudden NATO and the EU are entertaining bringing Uke into each. Uke has nothing to offer either , except headaches and problems.

I've noticed a visible pro-appeasement (towards Russia) slant in many of your posts on the thread about the invasion,

Really? Can you point to such pro-appeasement posts? I'm sure a simple clarification would illuminate you're misreading of said posts.

Just because I don't want to cut Russia off from the legion of man or deem all Russians irredeemable, doesn't mean I wish to appease Russian aggression.

Quite the contrary. My position is just more than kill the orcs and wag our righteous fingers in their face and tell them to be what we want them to be.

@ GK AND @ Bobko Bobkovich

You guys must realize that your civil discourse is uncivilized. You are two naziesque bastards with all of your willingness to rise above your marked differences to speak to each other as human beings.

Human beings, as if we could even call your behavior human. Entering into a rational exchange of perspectives, how disgustingly inhuman. You beasts!

Instead of following the noble and righteous path of self-righteous superiority and ostraciziation, you choose to...to...to....{excuse me 🤮🤮🤮}...treat each other as fellow humans. You freaking nazis!

Please, Paulina and Paw Patrol, carry on with your humane and decent discourse. We have a lot to learn from your humility about sowing the seeds of peace and fraternal correction.

Those rankings can kiss my ass, Bobko Bobkovich. I guarantee you someone with the wide breadth of reading and thinking about the works you were exposed to has a greater capacity to think critically by inferring a broader base of reference than your grad from some high-ranker polytech.

I saw a program about a highly esteemed techincal university in India that educates its students in various tech disciplines. They are brilliant engineers, but about as creative and imaginative as a Saharan pond.

@Bobko

Thanks for the link. When I went into college that type of curriculum was what I was looking for. I had to sort of create it myself with the help of a few good profs- the beauty of the independent study course.

I had a certain affinity for Columbia because of Mark van Doren and Thomas Merton.

I thought Columbia started to abandon or dilute this curriculum, I must have mistaken it for another school. Glad to hear it's still alive. I might encourage my kids to give it a look-see. Plus, you still have a guy like McWhorter teaching there, so that's a plus.

@GefreiterKania

I can imagine the way we do it is weird to you Euros. It's this difference that has made my new found love for soccer so interesting .

As it is now, I'd prefer to see a live pro soccer match than any other pro sport in America. Going to one tonight.

Yeah, you could paint your house, go on a cruise, and discover a new element for the periodic table within the expanse of a match.

Thanks. So the transfer fee is basically one club paying the other club the fee to allow the player to move. Interesting set-up. This is virtually unheard of in non-soccer pro sports in US. It's a completely different and foreign approach.

@Novichok

Ahhh... the crusty buzzard speaks. :D

The whole football transfer market is befuddling to me.

Barcelona offered 35 mil Euros to Bayern for Lewandowski. Bayern has rejected offer saying Lew is valued at 50 mil.

Lew is still under contract with Bayern, correct?

If Bayern accepts Barca's offer of, say, 45 mil, does Bayern get the 45 mil? If so, what does Lew get? Does his contract with Bayern simply transfer ownership rights to Barca and Lew continues getting paid according to said contract until it expires?

Is there a free agency in footbal: a player's contract expires and then he's open to sign with any club without consideration owed to previous club? I'd assume there is but is it very common and robust? It seems every report I read about a player moving to another club, that player is always still under a club.

E: the best source for learning Polish is a roll of toilet paper

A: welcome back you son of a b!tch!

That was funny. Some Polish babe must've broke his vulnerable Latin heart.

Pretty much everything Crow says is funny, but it's more like skit comedy. His indefatigable yearning and buoyant rallying of slavdom is pure art. How he addresses fellow slavs, regardless of the degree of chasmic disconnect, as dobre brate keeps me reading his tortuous and matrixesque posts.

If beauty is a mangled disconnected collection of conspiratorial meanderings tethered to a thin, yet constant, theme, then Crow is the Rembrandt of PF.

Post #278 gets a basketful of amens, as well!

programmed to view Russians as ubermenschen

Yeah, and that's the problem. I think your President is 90% sh!t and 10% admirable but, for crying out loud, Russians have plenty of redeeming qualities, except the Russian who replaced my roof-he has none (but that's another story)

And longterm arguments will always win over insults!

Amen! A-freaking-men!

would you still keep hitting him with insults and humiliate his pride? What would change that?

A-freaking-men, again!

but for that it would need people never giving up the talking with the "other" like Torqi!

Can I get another amen?!?!

do we want to find ways to solve problems that lead to a tolerable environmemt or just continually perpetuate grievances and seek retribution? This idea that Russia is an irredeemable bunch of Slavic barbarians will only perpetuate grievances.

Certainly this unjust invasion should be condemned and confronted, but all of this dispatching Russia and Russians to the frozen wilderness outside the civilized world is self-righteous pride that could end up biting us in the ass down the road.

He defends their war crimes

I don't think that's true, I think the Russians are irredeemable orcs or huns trope is getting in the way of some pro-uke posters. He is, however, providing a valuable Russian perspective, whether that perspective is agreed with or not.

@Bobko

That line of reasoning sounds like an unquenchable, perpetual, and eternal recipe for not only global discord but conflagration. May as well erase the word "sovereignty " from the lexicons of the world.

Life / Poland's birthrate on the decline [480]

Ladies:

How do you view the man/ woman relationship? Do you see it as competitive or complementary or something else?

Do you think femininity and masculinity have distinct characteristics? Do these characteristics complement one another? Do these characteristics serve particular roles?

third, fourth, fifth kid will statistically have lower outcomes, if other factors are kept static.

But, is that true? In most true market economies, education is accessible to any who wish to avail themselves of it by way of public subsidy or taking on debt.

Granted, cost of an education (not to mention extra-curricular and other things ) has increased dramatically and has an economic impact (on the student who assumes the debt ), but that is independent of family size.

I wonder if the real cause for a decline in births in the developed world is radical materialism and pursuit of luxury. In other words, a sort of radical self-absorption.

these things are hard to discount.

And, most importantly, those things typically mean economic growth.

rather be a Japan, than a Nigeria or Brazil. Not so sure if I would prefer to be Japan over India or China, however.

Yep!

India is one of those countries that shows just how important those other factors are, ie political stability and governmental policies. They have immense potential that has to be realized. It's going to be interesting to see how their renaissance of hindu nationalism plays out for them economically as well as geopolitically.

a larger family meant poorer outcomes in both education and career for the children.

Is that true, though? Certainly, in a modern urban setting, children are significant net drain on family resources, but has that necessitated poorer outcomes in both education and career or standard of living for those children?

There is compelling data that would indicate that population growth is a factor in economic growth. The greater the population the greater the opportunities for innovation and an increase goods and services, as well as hard capital. Granted, other factors contribute to economic growth, but population growth does appear to play an important part. Do you agree?

progress we have made as a species means that people do not need large families anymore in order to provide for themselves in old age

But those progressive provisions depend on funds. I am unaware of any developed nation's social welfare system that is not funded by the taxes of active workers. Most western countries, including Germany, and China are facing a current or looming social welfare crisis because of an aging population.

I'm happy to announce that I am not coming back empty handed. I have developed several potential solutions

:D :D. You are quickly becoming my favorite Russian.

hopeful fatalism, but still fatalism. Perhaps you need a bit of an American

But, GK's idea of leaving a better future for your children is very much an American idea, as well. American culture was always about building a better tomorrow. On a micro-level that meant a better future for one's children. Only recently is that becoming less prominent in the US, which might be a contributor to some of the decline we've had over past two decades.

It's not fatalism, at all; rather it's a constructive optimism and a sense of duty to enduring prosperity and well-being. So, I'd say GK has some American in him already. :)
