Love / 20% of adult Poles are single and live with Mummy! [241]

In Poland parents call you a sucker when you want to move out from home and lose your all savings on rental bills.

You need to cut the umbilical cord, with ma and pa. Polish parents are tough. They don't like giving up their babies

And ten years later we call them Snowflake millennials living in their parents basements way into their twenties and thirties that have been handi capped by their enabling parents to make them dysfunctional in society.

When I turned 18 my Dad handed me $50 and showed me the door and said, "Good Luck Son."

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

how to behave during a mass shooting

Seems 'mass shootings' is the crutch for many anti-gun owners here.
The mass shootings in the U.S. are generally committed with assault weapons with high capacity magazines.
Big difference than having a five shot capacity gun.
So many myths out there to create an allusion of reality.
Did you know that Chicago is not even close to being the gun violence capital of the United States ?
But who in Poland would know this fact by reading the posts here on this forum.

Easy Rich, you are punching way to hard.

Always funny when untrained civilians claim that they would do just fine in such a situation.

That is a fact to reckon with especially when you are awoken out of a dead sleep in the pitch dark or when you already have a gun pointing at you.

Good point Tac.

- there's also hunting tourism

I researched that and found it extremely expensive for the ordinary joe.
I also saw how the outfitters for these hunts in Poland 'rent' you a gun to use.
Much different where I live where most people hunt on millions of acres of public land with their personal gun, bow or crossbow.
Here in Michigan we harvest about 650,000 deer per season for food, (Government beef)
All you need is an over the counter $15 hunting license.

Now I understand as Poland has some very large game animals.
Your 338 lapua mag. compares to our 300 Winchester mag. that we use for elk, moose and grizzly bear.
Do a lot of people hunt in Poland as I see it is a very expensive sport there.
The Mouflon look very tasty.
I think people in Poland would support ownership of hunting rifles with a capacity of five rounds or less.
I do agree, handguns are not needed in Poland.

Please post a picture of that gun.
That should stop the stupid off - topic chatter here.
What kind of game are you going to hunt with it there in England ?
Grizzly bear and elephant ?

Thanks for your grounded input so we can stay more On-Topic here.

Because if we don't the Mods are going to close this thread too.

life in America is not like life in Europe and we have a different mentality on this subject.

I will say that you have explained it better then anyone else here Milo.
That is why I was so appalled when I saw the ignorance in Spikes posts.

I did get some advice from a more experienced fellow hunters before ordering it.

Couple of questions here.
How much did it cost you and take your time to google it.
I see here in the States they cost about $2700 (10,500 Zloty).

Apparently, it can also be used for sport shooting and as a tactical rifle. That's what I've been looking for.

Sporting ? That thing is a cannon and it is a very heavy gun (6 kg) to carry around all day hunting.
It would totally destroy any animal beyond being able to eat it unless you hit it in the head. (They shoot a 250 grain bullet which is a pumpkin)

It is definitely not a sporting gun, it is made for long range shooting (up to 2000 meters) and the ammo for it is very expensive $2.20 per round (8.5 zloty) which makes it impractical to just go out and shoot up a couple of boxes on a Sunday afternoon for fun target practicing.

fastest way for me to own a rifle for target practice and for a household defense

You are joking right, if you shot that thing inside a house not only would you be deaf for life but also the round would go thru the victim, (if you could manage to even hit him with that beast) then go thru the wall of your house, across the field and thru the wall of your neighbors house killing the baby sleeping in it's crib !

No, it is not a weapon for self defense Spike, your fellow hunters are a very bad source of information.
You should have asked old wrinkled up redneck J.R. from the U.S.A. who has been shooting guns for over a half century making him an expert on the subject.

I am starting to see now why Lenka thinks it is a bad idea for the Polish to own guns.

Did you happen to notice the word "tactical" by any chance ?
It's not how powerful your weapon is, it's how well you place your shot.
I use a hunting rifle that is half that powerful and can put down any animal that lives in America with one shot.
Again, Poland would need much education and stringent laws before they could just hand out weapons like you are talking about.
Maybe Poland would have to start out on air guns to practice with first before real guns were available to them.

Remington .338 lapua magnum hunting rifle.

Gees Oh Pete Spike !
Just a tad bit of over kill for a boar or moose.
That rifle is set up for a sniper to shoot 1800 meters.
If you hit a boar with that round all you would have left is minced meat.
And this is one more reason that education is very important before they let just anybody buy one. :-/

But what it boils down to is that

is that Pro American gun owners are referring to Law Abiding Citizens and European anti gun owners are referring to the public in general.

I have an open mind on the subject.

You seem to Milo and it is appreciated.

History / The reasons of Polish pride? [112]

If Hollywood were to make a movie about him, people would complain that it was unbelievable.

Well they did in 2015 and it was unbelievable.
It wasn't until the 1990s that Zofia and Andrzej Pilecki found out their father was a hero.
As teens in postwar Poland, they had been told he was a traitor and an enemy of the state, and they listened to news reports about his 1948 trial and execution on the school radio.

Today is the 75th anniversary of Auschwitz Liberation:

History / Tuchola in Poland - roots of Katyn? [220]

I donh't get why many Poles seem to often make a bigger deal about Katyn where 40,000 Poles died.

Do they make them any stupider then you ?
Putin's big lie.
In a series of comments in late December, Putin appeared to blame Poland for the outbreak of the Second World War.
The movie Katyn explains it.

News / Nuclear Power in Poland? Yes, please! Absolutely nobody disagrees! [73]

after they depleted

To what degree ?

let most active nuclides decay so rods can be transported.

"Most" is the key word here and transported to where as they are still very radioactive for hundreds of years.
To my understanding anyways.

News / Nuclear Power in Poland? Yes, please! Absolutely nobody disagrees! [73]

we need to have the debate about nuclear fuel in Poland

Poland has a golden opportunity to get the Żarnowiec Nuclear Power Plant up and running with funds now available from the E.U.

I am not sure there is any other way to produce the power Poland needs...but i do wish there was....!

For sure, you can't have it both ways.
My only concern is, "what do you do with the nuclear waste (spent radio active uranium rods) when they need to be disposed of."
Yes they periodically have to be changed out.
Where do you store them ? (Deep in the retired coal mines and cement them shut ?)
How many thousands of years before they are no longer dangerous to anything living ?
That is my only concern that is never talked about by the ice hockey politicians.

we need to have the debate about nuclear fuel in Poland but politically very difficult

That's because the Polish hate change for one and the other is that they like to have their ice cream and eat it too.

How do you generate that electricity?

Please explain this to the Millennials that claim electric cars are cleaner and more economical.

as Milo pointed out- that electricity comes from somewhere.

In Poland that would be from fossil fuels that pollute the environment.

The moment you will get the option to message me

Awe shucks, I was going to invite you to come visit me this summer so I could show you around my stomping grounds and then you could take me back to Poland and show me yours.

Guess I will just have to keep looking for some nice open minded Polish girl.

the best electric heating is when the wires are buried in the floor. 100% efficient and 100% silent.

And clean however I wouldn't call it the best radiant heat as Hydronic Radiant Heat is much more economical.
Poring concrete over plastic pipe coils in the floor and then pumping hot water from a boiler is much more efficient.
I have installed this kind of heat in new homes back in the 80's.

I suspect it in not that much warmer where Rich, Dirk and Joker live.

Not on the average Milo, like I said, I have a meter of snow on my roof right now and they have very little to none.

I still think JR is using a very dumb and expensive way to heat his home.

You just want to kid argue like always so you have someone to talk to.
I would replace dumb with convenience Milo, since at my age I can afford to heat with any one of the three options my house has.

LP gas (forced air furnace going on and off all day and night), wood heat (hauling the wood in and hauling the ashes out) or electric (where I just set the dial).

I just worry about your emotional state.

Thank you, you really do have feelings for me don't you.
PM your telephone number so we can talk about it. :-)

To get so upset over something like that...

Your emotions about me seem much much more upsetting to be honest.
The last thing I need is an old lady in my life worrying about me.
Unless you are very wealthy and then we can talk.

I also found it less efficient in the meaning

Less efficient then coal but 100% cleaner heat and that is what the thread is Suppose to be about.

If his place is half the size mine, doesn't have security lights ($4z per day each to operate) that he pays for, no sauna or washer and dryer, and a string of electronics that run 24/7 like my air purifier, humidifier, power lift and massager chair and living in a climate that the average temperature in February is 29F/11C here compared to 38F/25C in Wroclaw for example.

Right now I have a meter of snow on the roof of my house.
This is why I was getting so annoyed with Millie when she was trying to start an argument comparing apples with oranges.

There's a lot of EU money available to help, for a start.

Exactly what I said to revive this thread back in post # 128 where I posted the European Union plans to dedicate a quarter of its budget to tackling climate change and to help shift 1 trillion euros ($1.1 trillion) in investment towards making the economy more environmentally friendly over the next 10 years.

What an opportunity for Poland ! But stubborn Poland has not agreed yet to a timeline to quit burning coal.

God helps those who help themselves.

I've got the heating set and the monthly bill is about 300zl a month on average,

How many sq m is your flat and how much will your bill be in February ?

why the life expectancy figure is now falling

Also the countries huge medical costs due to respiratory problems.

no need to get angry or excited....

You do have a terrific imagination son

@ JohnnyCalm down man. No need to get so agitated.

Thank you Lenka as I do get agitated when people cherry pick out of context just to argue.
I repeatedly stated that was the most I paid in the dead of winter and other winter months could be less then half that.
I also posted that electricity could cost more here then there.
I also posted that there were many variables to be compared but to no avail.
These kids just want to argue to argue.

Of course I forgot to mention that includes hot water and a gas hob in the kitchen

Mine includes hot water for my sauna and washer machine, electric dryer, yard sodium security lights (wow !), and a string of other luxuries that I am quite sure you don't have.

I also stated that I have a wood burner for back up but I did not mention that I also have a back up LP tank (500 gallon) with a LP furnace that is only used to warm the house up quickly.

That LP tank is also connected to my home generator so if the electricity does go off (like it did last night because of very high winds with tree branches breaking and falling on the power lines) the generator kicks on automatically.

I live in a rural area and it is every man for himself.
Is there anymore personal information that you want of mine to defend my posts so you can badger me with it Harry ?
(J.R. gives up telling these hammer heads to stay on topic and appreciates the Mods patience more and more every day)

That's Nice.

I meant 1500zl a month for both of them in the coldest month of winter when they run non-stop.

My house is twice as big as yours plus I live in a much colder region and I like to keep it very warm in my house.

L300 wouldn't even buy a cord of good hard wood here in the U.S. and I go thru a cord of wood in a week when it is -25C.

You must live in a very small house with low ceilings.
Maybe your electric costs less then mine too.
There are just to many variables to compare.

That is bloody expensive.

Welcome to the U.S.A. tax base who's military picks up the tab to protect the E.U.
Now I don't know what is the matter with you thick head self centered morons that INSIST hell or high water to take this thread off-topic just to argue.

How do your wives put up with you.

but to have someone to ARGUE and take the thread right off topic again and again and again

Except for the fact that these infrareds are engineered and designed to have maximum efficiency.

The infrared heaters contain three parts: infrared light bulbs, a conductor like copper and a fan that blows air onto the exchanger.

The coiled wired ones lack such technology.
My next reply will be, "That's nice".
Now for the sake of sanity Rich, go pester your wife.
