Off-Topic / American Jew Voice in Poland [93]

Tel Aviv is the capital of Israel!

Imagine making New York City (once again) the capital of the US! It's looney. First of all, Jerusalem is currently claimed simultaneously by the Palestinians as theirs, whereby Tel Aviv remains far less polarized.

News / Should Poland traitors face the death penalty? [105]

"Lefty yappers", @Ironside?? Don't you mean "Leftist...." Anyway, I'm a righty, always have been. Some of us are ambidextrous, unfortunately, I'm not one of them:-)

Language / Harmless old-fashioned Polish swear words/phrases [159]

I was watching "Noz w wodzie" with only Polish subtitles recently and heard the main character scream at the young hitchhiker who nearly ran into him, "Strojak!"

Figure is roughly translates as something along the lines of American "You jerk!", or the like:-)

For historical reasons, Jerusalem aka Jerozolima, always WAS and spiritually still IS the capital of Israel! However, the reality of treaties, agreements and geopolitics typically interferes with such idealism:-)

As usual, Trump's just being outrageous once again and trying to throw the proverbial monkey wrench into an arena he doesn't, indeed cannot, understand: DIPLOMACY!

Life / Getting two beers instead of one - have this happen to you in Poland? [9]

If you are ordering in Poland, for that matter, almost anywhere in Europe, always remember when gesturing to the waiter or barkeeper, make sure your thumb is completely covered by you index finger, otherwise (as we do it in the States), it'll look as if you're ordering two beers instead of one:-)

News / Should Poland traitors face the death penalty? [105]

That's right!

Even Hitler himself, along with the camp docs and so forth I'd rather have captured, tortured, and imprisoned.

Do two wrongs make a right??! Would killing the Nuremberg 12 bring back the millions they had killed??!

Your logic is self-righteous clap-trap, perpetrating Man's sins in G_d's name.

@Sig Sauer, by your definition, let's all execute anyone whom we don't like or of whose politics etc. we don't approveLOL

What does it solve? What message does it send to our youth?

News / Should Poland traitors face the death penalty? [105]

Death penalty supporters, roz, are mostly only concerned with the costs of keeping killers alive, rather than serving the ends of justice or preventing homicides from occurring! Lifers are a drain on the state, this is true. Yet which is more "humane"? Killing sanctioned by the gov't. for a capital crime such as murder, or allowing the culprit to languish for years in prison?

I believe in life imprisonment with zero possibility of parole, moreoever, should the convicted killer develop cancer etc.., NO treatment which could be spent on deserving folks on the outside who haven't committed murder!

The death penalty solves NOTHING, you people! It's not a true deterrent, turns criminals etc. into mere martyrs, and doesn't make them suffer as does life imprisonment!

Furthermore, killing the killer won't bring back the person killed, right? OK, then.

Lastly, it isn't Man's place to play G_d. G_d creates life, therefore He take life as well:-)

Travel / Are Polish people as unfriendly as Slovaks? [84]

Almost every forum to which I belong has more than its share of rude people! One simply has to deal with such as very best one can, spit out the bile and ROCK ON!!

Brits can be blunt, this is true. The old American adage, "If you've nothing pleasant to say, say nothing!" appears not to resonate abroad for the most part:-)

Classifieds / Need an English Teacher in Poland? [3]

Welcome!

I'm curious as to what method you employ. Although I realize it all depends on the level for the most part, I tend to focus on visually rather than textually-driven conversation at the advanced beginner up through intermediate stage, later tapering off to more spontaneous topic discussion.

A textbook is certainly useful as a road map, but never as a "crutch" for poor preparation on the teacher's part.

Be interested in your thoughts!

For every anti-Semitic Pole, there was a Wojtyla and a Karski to counterbalance. Let's dispense with the Pole bashing already, huh?

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

Most Americans outside our major urban areas believe in all good conscience that guns are good, that G-d, guns, and guts are what made America what and where she is today!

Well, I'm sure glad somebody out there's finally taken some blame aka responsibility for our current state of affairs:-)

Although I can't personally speak for Slovaks, as I don't know any, at least not intimately, Polish hospitality is proverbial: "Gosc w domu, Pan Bog w domu!"

Love / Are Polish men handsome to you? [182]

True, but those I mentioned had both class as well as (good) looks! Don't know of any Polish film star today with a voice like Lapicki's. Remember his performance in "Kanal"? It still gives me shivers.

And listen to him once read from Iwaszkiewicz' "Vox humana"!!

I would have, kaprys, but unfortunately Andrzej Lapicki's dead and so's Zbigniew Cybulski:-).

Study / Studying in Poland without speaking Polish? [15]

Not impossible, of course, only umpteen times more rewarding if you know at least the bread-and-butter basics of the target language in the country where you're studying or working.
