Off-Topic / Terms of Ukrainian Surrender [67]

Nobody stole 300 billion - it was left in the banks of the free world and then sanctions were imposed that prevented bank transfers back to North Nigeria.

You could have left it somewhere else like with your Iranian or Chinese or North Korean friends, kept it in Rubels etc. North Nigerian taxpayers should be asking their democratically elected leaders why they did something so risky as leave it with their enemies.

You can have it back after the war, minus whatever it costs to fix everything

History / 20 years of Poland in the EU. [314]

There is nothing to buy in Belarus so it doesn't matter what the purchasing power of their fake ass currency is.

Rest of your numbers are wrong and outdated - the place is a prison camp run by a fossil and it's ludicrous to compare it with a rapidly improving economy like Bulgaria.

History / 20 years of Poland in the EU. [314]

That is one of the weirdest comparisons possible

On things that people care about - average salary, GDP per head then Bulgaria, easily the poorest EU country, is still 2x the level of Belarus. And as your own numbers show it has very low unemployment.

But it's also a question of direction - Bulgaria is going in a positive direction, Belarus will remain poor and blighted until they adopt democracy and move away from Moscow.

News / Polish coal will be back [141]

I think if I was freezing to death at a bus stop I might duck into a nearby Zabka and wait until the bus came.

News / How will Poland be affected by WW3 which has now started [559]

We are not with Hungary and Serbia for a simple reason - they have taken the insane position of siding with murdering invaders

Serbia will probably see the light before Hungary - I expect it will take violence to remove Orban at some point

Life / Is there a self-help movement in Poland? [13]

It's weird - I never heard if Esalen and now that's the third time in a few weeks someone mentioned it - I must put it on my list of things to google

Law / Income Earned 100% In USA and Poland Taxes [5]

Sure - if you think you will be better off in the US then nothing stopping you going back. i don't like the tax rates either but not much I can do about it - they will be going up soon as the deficit has grown way too big in the last 5 years.

Meanwhile actually in Warsaw I am wondering whether to go to the gym or have a swim and then which restaurant to go to.

We are not planning any escape and if we do we can travel as far as Portugal without a passport.

Law / Income Earned 100% In USA and Poland Taxes [5]

Generally yes you will have to pay Polish tax on it, though you are allowed to deduct US tax from that.

There are plenty of tax advisors in Warsaw specializing in that - better off to use a Facebook group Google it. I'm not going to give a specific recommendation

Also might be ways around the tax depending on how you earned it etc.

You are a Polish citizen ?

News / How will Poland be affected by WW3 which has now started [559]

It's one of the weirdest arguments Toro - people should not attack North Nigeria in case it upsets the North Nigerians ?

They started this conflict but don't seem to have the military means to finish it. So time to focus their minds into the need for a withdrawal. That means more strikes on legitimate targets inside their own borders

History / Slovakia - Poland's neglected neighbour? [85]

A number of Sub Saharan countries now have a higher life expectancy than your average Ivan in Omsk

Senegal, Botswana, Djibouti and a few others all at 68 or 69. And the trends are positive - don't be surprised to be overtaken by Ethiopia or Kenya in the next few years

History / Slovakia - Poland's neglected neighbour? [85]

North Nigerians live 7 years less than your statistical Pole Jan Kowalski. And their life expectancy is dropping.

Bad diet, too much booze, crappy healthcare, HIV, more accidents on awful roads plus senseless meat grinder wars against peaceful neighbors

Law / Gun control in Poland: should Polish people be allowed to own guns? [1070]

Thet bring out the worst in you for sure.

That's because you are a bitter old man obsessed with LGBT

I quite like women, enjoy their company and just had a pleasant enough evening in Warsaw dancing and drinking.

You staying up for a bit more trolling at a guess ?

Law / Gun control in Poland: should Polish people be allowed to own guns? [1070]

With this airman it shows the circle of accidents

He went to get his gun because he thought he was under an armed home invasion (logical as the invader might be armed)

The police at the wrong apartment saw he had a gun and shot him, to kill, not just to disable.

I can not think of a single time in Poland when the police have entered the wrong home and shot a man dead

Life / Poland and the neighboring Baltic States [5]

A great deal of trade and many business links. I have been maybe 15 times for business to Lithuania and a few visits to the other 2. I have family roots there

Vacationing isn't popular for Poles - most people who had heritage there have already seen it and being honest it's not an easy connection - flights are expensive and by road can take a long time.

Love / Date Guidelines Required [36]

If you mean Kawa po turecku then prepare for a long date - that stuff needs several hours to cool down !

Never really gone for the Laura Ashley vibe in cafes, seems to have a niche in most Polish towns though.

Love / Date Guidelines Required [36]

Well I recognize Wedel, Fukier something and I think the Hotel Bristol - all a bit high end for a first date. Wedel is OK I guess.

But I am really struggling to think of cafes in central Warsaw that have waitress service and have even a hint of romance. Most seem to go for the queue up for your drink, dispose of your own plate and listen to loud coffee machines vibe.

Obviously a bit of a generation gap thing Paulina - if I lady told me she wanted to meet for a coffee I would assume she wanted some kind of favor or to oitch some business idea to me. If she suggested to meet for a drink I would put on a nice shirt and have a shave :))

Love / Date Guidelines Required [36]

Going for a coffee is pretty teenage IMO. If you are going to ask her for a date at least make it something more special than a Starbucks where you have to stand in line like a dork while she looks for an ugly sofa to sit on. Maybe lunch or visit some exhibition or walk in a park - there are plenty of alcohol free options.

News / Coronavirus in Poland - part 2 [599]

Yes they were - I remember some crazy laws, like not being able to walk in a totally empty forest, not for a few weeks but for months. Having to wear a mask in your own car, when you were driving alone. They were absolutely imposed lightly - Morawiecki seemed to pull them out of his dupa every Sunday night on powerpoint, with no law passed, no constitutional support and rarely much logic.

Masks were still needed in almost every public space in summer 2021, even though no real proof that they worked.. Entertainment, hotels, sports and pubs all closed for months on end, many gone for good. Standing in line in a stupid, ineffective paper mask at 7.00am just to get basic groceries.

And most damaging of all, the work closures which led to the return of inflation after decades, the long school closures, the bans on dating which have caused a demographic hole to go with the fiscal hole etc.

Amazing how lockdown fanatics are trying to gaslight us that this was not a big deal.

News / Coronavirus in Poland - part 2 [599]

Clearly not the same as either of those examples. I'm surprised you didn't wheel out the "seatbelts" argument beloved of nanny statists. You have a choice not to drive and can choose your taxes based on how you work and what assets you have - there is no tax just for breathing.

I got the vaccine willingly but agree that the level of coercion about what people do with their own bodies was a profound intrusion on our rights.

A lot of the hardline vaccine nuts like Arden and Sturgeon have shuffled off stage, unwilling to deal with the huge debts caused by permanent lockdown.

In Poland we had a more light touch about the vaccines thank heavens - even PiS realized there are limits

News / Coronavirus in Poland - part 2 [599]

That's not true - the biggest lie was that lockdown would just be 4 weeks in Poland. Another big lie was that once vaccinated we could get back to normal life with no restrictions.

Law / Gun control in Poland: should Polish people be allowed to own guns? [1070]

Probably a reasonable guesstimate though

An alternative way of looking at it.

65m Americans are on some form of mental health prescription medicine (20 percent)

82m have guns (25 percent)

That means circa 13m with guns and on prescription mental health medicine
