Off-Topic / Pop A Cork - Wine [437]

White dry wine is never excellent

I dissent. I have come across some excellent dry white wines. I had a semillon a bit ago that was so good it nearly made my face melt-same with a tröcken riesling.

Appassimento

You're talking my language, Alien. That dried grape method produces some fantastic wines that are rich and broad. Italian wines are underrated as a whole, IMO.

Off-Topic / Curious Books of PF [50]

During lunch, I ducked into a great used book store in downtown of my fair city and came across this collection.

Question now is whether or not I'm willing to separate myself from hard earned cash in order for the bookstore to separate itself from said collection.

@Bobko

No apology necessary. I loved those types of collections when I was younger. I guess it was the variety and brevity of subjects.

@Atch

Very appealing to the eye.

@Novichok

Is that an audio book?

@Bobko

What year was that collection published and by whom? Looks like a pretty neat series.

A behind the scenes look at Vatican II through the lens of one of its major players. He wasn't afraid to call an idiot an idiot. A fun and enjoyable read.

What qualifies as unpopular?

Off-Topic / Pop A Cork - Wine [437]

I shall slay this bottle tonight as I did to its twin brother Easter Sunday.

A chardonnay from South Africa that has a hint of butteriness that yields to a delightful bite of acidity. Think a CA chardonnay hooking up with a Chablis to produce an offspring where the genes of the Chablis are dominant.

Not an excellent wine, but more than worthy to occupy a glass that is well-attended to.

Life / Finally, wife acquitted after killing her abusive husband [22]

They confirmed he had always become prone to aggression when drunk and it had happened quite often.

Did those neighbors testify that they saw him attempt to rape his wife prior to him being stabbed?

Their testimony as you report only states he could be an aggressive drunk.

No, I find it nasty when prosecutors insist on sending a person to prison only for defending herself against aggressive lowlife`s sick demands.

That's if he was indeed a lowlife with sick demands and that the wife did indeed need to defend herself against him. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he was or wasn't a bad guy and the wife was or wasn't in need of defending herself. But, women aren't always innocent and truthful in these cases--it's not always black and white, in reality. It is the Prosecutor's duty to investigate these crimes and bring charges if their investigation warrants charges. Maybe the facts the Prosecutor gathered pointed toward this woman was not acting in self-defense, but out of some other motive.

Life / Finally, wife acquitted after killing her abusive husband [22]

Was the only evidence the testimony of the woman?

When it comes to criminal law in Poland, does it operate on the "beyond a reasonable doubt" paradigm?

Prosecutor`s job is one of the nastiest I can ever think of. They are sick people of hyena nature.

Why is that? Do you find it nasty to prosecute crimes in a court of law? Would you still consider the prosecutor nasty if the man had killed the wife for supposedly denying his sexual desire?

News / War propaganda - are we really THAT retarded? [28]

How come so many people who until February 2022 did the job of journalists have so suddenly transformed into primitive propagandists?

Could the answer be they were never really anything more that propagandists all along, and that their propagandism has just now become inescapably apparent?

The free world's journalism is in crises, IMHO. It has discredited itself so often that what they report can only be taken with a grain of sand...or until it has been corroborated by a gazillion sources over the course of many many months. It's flipping distressing!

Are we really THAT retarded to believe the same lies repeated over and over again?

Uhh, yeah! :) Considering media is a consumer product and this nonsense is consumed heartily by the consuming public, we're pretty damned retarded. OMG, I sound like Novi.

Any other predicitions of media news in coming months?

--That Putin will give a televised public address, whereby he peels off his mask to reveal his true identity: Adar, leader of the Orcs. [which, of course, many on PF will go, "well, duh!"]

--That Putin is setting off for Argentina to have a secret meeting with a very old frail man with a Charlie Chaplin mustache who speaks with a distinct Austrian accent who goes by the name, Hitolf Adler--must be some kind of enigmatic code name or something.

Love / Does he really love me ? [34]

Nothing wrong saying you love kids, if it's true. But, if you say it to coerce, then you're pathetic and not manly, IMO. The intent matters.

Love / Does he really love me ? [34]

To say what you suggest strikes me as exploiting women emotionally to gain their affection. It's a form of coercion, which is not respecting women. I suggest a different route, just be a man around women, which basically means to love (willing the good of the other for the sake of the other) and exhibit virtues...that kind of stuff.

Nah, that's manipulation. Just act like a real man and decent women will be attracted.

News / 11th November Independence Day in Poland [73]

@Kashub1410

I get it, but that's the kind of stuff that needs to be pushed back against, IMO. German history is a helluvalot more than the 12 years of Nazi rule.

I'm fed up with this western self-loathing and misrepresentation. This stupid neo-marxist woke ideology that since it ain't perfect it's damned is a vile perspective.

Keep to the subject of the thread please

GK, what historical depiction is the top photo?

Yeah, I love me a good parade. They are dying here in the USia.

BB, a country with such a rich heritage of pageantry doesn't do parades? I tell ya, the West needs a little more self-love.

How was the parade, GK. Take any pics?

Study / Various education and school issues in Poland. Opinions, stories, controversies. [1006]

@Novichok

Haha! I guess it depends in what you mean by extreme, but, regardless, it doesn't necessitate those events to be presented with bias. You simply present what is known as factual and/or the differing interpretations of whatever the historical record holds at the moment without giving preeminence over one particular view.

@Lyzko

I don't understand what you mean.

News / Poland to officially demand $1.32 trillion WW2 reparations from Germany [457]

Modern Germany is the legal heir of the Third Reich

But, when does the grievances end? It seems what you're proposing is perpetual grievances by nearly every existing nation on Earth.

But, if this is the real goal:

Germans can find...stop treating Poland like a vassal and let Poles order their internal affairs as Poles see fit, PiS won't insist on reparations.

Then, three cheers for a clever move. :)
