News / 2011 Stats: 80% of Poles happy [60]

@Ron2, "what's going on? It's getting better... That's an improvement from the 39th place (Ranking of Happiness based on a three-year-average 2020-2022).

As they grow older, men become more generous and complain less about trivial things. Women - the exact opposite.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that women take care of those aging men (their husbands) while noone takes care of those women?

News / Flood in Lower Silesia in Poland - looks catastrophic [94]

It looks catastrophic..

It does :(((

The first country to offer help to Poland was Ukraine by proposing to send 100 rescue workers:

wiadomosci.wp.pl/polska-walczy-z-wielka-woda-pomoc-deklaruje-ukraina-i-litwa-wielki-szacunek-7071651138061953v

...and then followed by Lithuania.

Life / Paintings of artists from Poland? [192]

@jon357, those are not paintings. Andrzej Berłowski isn't a painter - he takes photos. The first one is either digital art or a heavily edited photo. The second one is a photo (some of his photos, like this one, would be great for painting though :)):

Off-Topic / Nobel Prize and Oscars = Propaganda? [61]

The bi*tch was argumentative, resistsing police orders and arrest.

Don't call her a "bi*tch", you disgusting, lying piece of sh1t. She wasn't resistsing the police orders or arrest and got beaten up when she was already in the police van as witnessed by her co-detainees.

When a thug goes for the cop's gun

She wasn't a f*cking thug and she wasn't going for anyone's gun, you moron.

Nothing.

Everything is wrong with you.

@Novichok, so what is a screaming man? You realise that men scream, yell and chant slogans during demonstrations too, right? They even break and burn things and throw stuff at the police.

By definition...

There's no such "definition". It's all in your head, psycho.

@Novichok, those are not "broads", you stupid a$$hole. Unless your wife, daughters and granddaughters are "broads" too - then I'll make sure to call them like that from now on :)

so your point is pointless.

In what way is it "pointless"? You bemoan the fact that people in the US don't have it in them to stand up to the government and make street protests or even riots about policies they don't like and then you... sh1t on women for protesting against killing a woman for not wearing her headscarf "properly"? Wtf is wrong with you?

Hey, stupid, I always mean in the US unless I name another place.

Hey, moron, that photo depicted a protest in Iran and the discussion was about protests in Iran and your comment was posted directly after my comment (and without any mention of the US), so learn to make comments that make sense and are on topic and relevant to the discussion.

Also, I doubt that even in case of US "majority of demostrators are women". I'm guessing that it depends on the situation. For example, look at this photo here:

apnews.com/article/election-2020-joe-biden-donald-trump-race-and-ethnicity-elections-dc8f6803f90f844177f324d374242cb6

we don't plant stupid people, they are just born

Indeed.

Food / Bigos Recipe [183]

@jon357, nope, I've never had a bigos with grape paste, I've never even heard of a grape paste before :) Maybe it's a local recipe in Podlasie or simply the lady's family is doing bigos that way.

the lady who did it that way said it was traditional.

She said that putting that grape paste in bigos is traditional?

Food / Bigos Recipe [183]

@jon357, I don't know how you personally serve food - I'm just saying that by Polish standards or my family standards bigos is served and eaten when still hot (and eaten fairly quickly from my observation and in my experience) :)

It's also easy to eat it fast - it's a light dish - it's mainly sauerkraut, after all... I usually wtrzącham bigos aż mi się uszy trzęsą ;D

Food / Bigos Recipe [183]

@Poloniusz, I wouldn't really call bigos a "stew". 🤔

Emotional eating is more of a coping mechanism and women tend to have higher rates of it than men.

It's not about emotions, but about temperature. The sensation of warmth isn't the same as emotion, you messed up misogynist.

you'd know that stews and soups in Central Europe are often served more warm than hot.

I don't know how people serve their stews and soups, but bigos is definitely served hot in my family and often in bowls, not on plates. We usually start eating it when it's still hot. It grows cold fairly quickly so I'm trying to eat it at a pretty good pace - maybe that's the secret of it warming me up so well :)))

aniagotuje.pl/przepis/bigos

An advice from the author of this recipe:

"I recommend serving bigos very hot."

:)

@Poloniusz, there are other hot dishes that don't warm me up as well as bigos during winter. At least that's my impression/experience.

Food / Bigos Recipe [183]

@jon357, I've never heard of this theory/story. To be honest I didn't even know that the French have something similar to our bigos :)

I don't like bigos

I do like it which shouldn't come as surprise :))) I don't like every bigos though, since it's not made the same by everyone. I like the way my family makes it. It's great for winter, btw - it warms you up well for some reason :) I'd say it's a kind of comfort food. 🤔 My father absolutely loves it.

@jon357, I agree - bigos is simply "bigos" and not any "choucroute garnie" either :)

Majority of demostrators are women because

...a woman was killed for not wearing a f*cking headscarf "properly". If you think that killing a woman for not wearing a f*cking headscarf "properly" is not worthy of protests then I want you to DIE yourself.

And as for "majority of demonstrators are women":

Iran

That doesn't explain why you think Iran being in the bottom few percent world wide isn't a problem for a significant number of women there

Because it isn't a problem for him. He's a sociopath (or a retard) devoid of empathy.

I wish men like Novichok and Ironside died out already. It's depressing that they even exist. Disgusting really.

Life / A Muslim Arab in Poland who loves Polish KABANOS & VODKA [20]

@jon357, my guess why pork was cheaper is that it was probably because cows and sheep were killed for meat less often since cows give milk and you get wool from sheep, so you need them alive, while pigs couldn't be used for anything else than meat. In my grandma's village cows were slaughtered for food very rarely. People needed them to get milk and to make cheese.

Pork steaks is a bit better but not perfect, and you can say schnitzel in English.

So what would be the right translation? Pork schnitzel? 🤔

It's comfort food

Yes, I guess you could say that ;) :))

@jon357, that's interesting, because in my family (and I guess not only) kotlet schabowy (pork chop) was the most favoured choice for a Sunday dinner :)) For my mother a pork chop was a must for Sunday and when I was a kid you could hear the pork chops getting whammed on Sunday all over my block of flats lol To be honest I love pork lol ;O For me it's the tastiest meat aside from fish. If I'm given a choice - to eat a kotlet schabowy or kotlet drobiowy I choose the pork chop ;d

totally worthless

Maybe to you, but for people who live under a regime it's usually very important to know that the world didn't forget about them. So, I'm guessing it wasn't "totally worthless" for those people:

now the West wants to do something about that?

That "now" was after protests in Iran. Do you remember what those protests were about?

Hopefully you can connect the dots..

I can, but I'm not sure if you can... Lech Wałęsa got awarded the Nobel Peace Prize after the period of martial law in Poland which was introduced in order to suppress protests. Over 10 000 people got arrested and 40 people killed by the communist regime. Here you can read about what significance that Nobel Peace Prize had for Polish people:

dzieje.pl/aktualnosci/danuta-walesa-odebrala-w-imieniu-meza-pokojowa-nagrode-nobla

I see the Nobel Peace Prize often as a symbolic sign of support for a nation or some cause, even though just one person usually gets awarded.

totally worthless from a human perspective.

Hmm, I don't know, maybe speak for yourself? I suspect that this one meant something for people in Iran:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_Nobel_Peace_Prize

Btw, winning the Nobel Prize in Physics can get you over 1 mln dollars usually, so I wouldn't call that "worthless" :P

Law / Gun control in Poland: should Polish people be allowed to own guns? [864]

@Bobko, my mother read the whole village library while pasturing cows... I discovered "The Lord of the Rings" (and fell in love with it) on a shelf at my grandma's house in the countryside...

This is what preserved the religiosity and the culture despite centuries of occupation.

Nonsense.

But that's enough of me feeding your trolling :)

Look, I'm gonna show you how difficult it is for me to "Bold" or "Italicize" things on my phone.

I don't seem to have such a problem on my Android phone... Besides, I don't use this function - I just type "[b][ /b]" and "[i][ /i]" by hand - it's faster for me personally (must be a force of habit from my second job though).

But what I've noticed recently - I sometimes have a problem with moving around the text window (with sliding through the text) when I'm writing my post - like it gets stuck/freezes. I'm not sure if it's a problem with the forum or with my phone or what... 🤔 Has anyone else experienced it?

I'm realizing that most of my suggestions were useless

I meant that in a more general way ;)

I don't know how many people use mobile, but I would hazard a guess that it may be the majority.

99% of the time I'm using my phone to read and write on PF. I'm guessing that's how it's also with young people... Yesterday I read a Polish article that blew my mind - apparently because Gen Z grew up using smartphones some of them don't even know how to turn on a computer o_O

how many were bots

They seem to be a plague on the internet these days.

Classifieds / introduce my job products from china [27]

would rather not buy from the horrific regime.

Easier said than done, I'm afraid... One of the components of a medicine that people with my illness have to take everyday for the rest of their lives is (or was?) produced only by a factory in China apparently. When the production at that factory was stopped (due to fire, or sth, I don't remember) there was a shortage of that medicine in Poland. And I can't just not take that medicine...

Almost 80% of active substances used in drugs produced by the pharmaceutical industry come from China. It looks like we've become too dependent on production in China.:

mgr.farm/aktualnosci/uzaleznienie-od-chinskich-substancji-czynnych-juz-wychodzi-nam-bokiem/

That's a problem for them since fake products are extremely common in China.

I know, I've seen stories of people buying more professional coloured pencils supposedly from Western brands on Chinese internet stores for lower prices and it turned out that quality was nothing like it was supposed to, so they were probably fakes. Intellectual property theft is also very common apparently - I've seen Western artists complaining about their art being stolen and printed on various products and sold on Chinese internet stores like AliExpress, etc.

@Bobko, yeah, that was a good suggestion.
I've been for so long on this forum that I sometimes forget how normal forums operate and I get used to such stuff.

I suspect I'm not the only one who was oblivious to these changes.

Yup, I had no idea...

Perhaps the Admin can make some kind of a sticky thread where the updates are posted, but discussion is locked? Actually... would be nice to be able to make suggestions too.

Nah, that would be too logical and user-friendly... That's not Admin's style of operating on this forum... lol

What may seem super obvious to the Admin is definitely not always obvious to us peasants.

yup

A sponsor finally said it! Yay! lol
