News / Presidential elections 2020 - your opinions about campaign, candidates [2222]

Clean shaven Duda looks like an azzhole,

Clean shaven Duda looks a lot like Howdy Doody.... the star of a popular children's show in 1950s America (who was a puppet ironically enough...)

howdy

That's Howdy on the right....

I always think of him as Howdy Duda now....

Life / A nuclear family in Poland - is it a new trend in our society? [13]

Wasn`t it God who created

I'm pretty sure that JP II back in the 1990s declared there was no contradiction between the scientific study of evolution and the Bible (part of a trend in western catholicism of regarding the Bible as revealing truth indirectly though things like metaphor).

The American evangelical idea is that the bible is literally true so God creating the heavens and the earth took place of 144 hours (followed by 24 hours of rest)....

History / Poland must get back Lwow, Wilno and Brest back [345]

Also there's the conflict in Donbas. If we become one country, it's godna be Polish borders being attacked by Russia

And Polish land (Crimea) occupied by Russia and being destroyed by all too typical Russian mismanagement...

Not worth it.

This is the end beautiful friend...

Here's an example of the stunning levels of competence that you want to vote for...

onet.pl/informacje/onetwiadomosci/wybory-2020-spoznione-karty-do-glosowania/7md7zjc,79cfc278

If Duda wins then PiS gets to completely and totally own all the bad economic news that's on the way. It'll be a rough lesson for the country, let's hope that they learn it....

communism corrupt leadership in control of everything

It's the same system as the Tsar - also a totally corrupt system, communism changed _nothing_ in Russia beyond the labels people on the surface.

communism is alive and well under Putin

Not exactly, it's the old Russian system

Big Man at the top: tsar, first secretary, Putin...

corrupt cronies: members of the court, party insiders, oligarchs

unwashed masses: serfs, soviet "citizens", everyday Russians

Very stable the same structure (rotten to the core) with different labels...

TVPiS back to its PRL ways with citizens reading questions from cards... did they choose the cards themselves or were they handed to them?

the 'debate' on tvp

I'm glad that at least you recognize what a dog and pony show the first "debate" on tvp was.... well that's what you get when you fill the state tv with nomenklatura

undecided voters watch tvp

no they don't. only dedicated fans of PiS watch tvp...

News / Unfulfilled promises by PiS [559]

Which is why Duda is talking about the non-existent issue of gay adoption... and the blithering idiots in the media are happy to play along.

Purely disgusting.

Language / Am I the only person that can't sing in Polish at all? [48]

that Polish language sounds really angry and vulgar

That's the people, not the language... I think Polish sounds softer than Czech (for example)

The phonetic traits that make speakers sound angry in some languages (like guttural or tense sounds, tones) barely exist in Polish.

Post a link of someone speaking Polish that sounds angry and vulgar to you (independent of content).

Polish can sound a bit monotonous both because it is syllable timed (like Spanish or Italian) and the intonational spread (difference between high and low and soft and loud) is smaller than in some languages in Europe.

Language / POLISH 18 - 30 years old know MUCH BETTER ENGLISH language than their own native language! [102]

hat is why most young people know better English, than Polish.

No they don't.....

Even if they get better grades on matura for english - the level being tested is nowhere close.
You can get good grades for English just for being understandable while you have to be eloquent to get good grades in Polish.

But that communicative english often sounds basic and unsophisticated to native speakers.

I can't find the equivalent of the word "slapping", "popping" etc. (I'm talking about the bass guitar)

What do Polish bassists call them?

why isn't the Ukraine making reparations in the same way that Poland is (not that I want it )

you can't squeeze blood from a turnip... ukraine is desperately poor and under military attack

there's also the case that ukraine is not the successor state of the USSR and can't be held liable for decisions made during that time...

you could lso argue that Ukraine is making reparations through their labor (without which much of the pre-corona growth of the last few years wouldn't have happened)

rabs and Turks and as individuals they're very nice and friendly

reminiscent of Latin Americans, lovely individuals but they have no idea how to run a country...

PO on the other hand wanted to take in muslim "refugees"

No one seriously believed they'd stay in Poland when the border to Germany was open.... that was face-saving for Merkel, political kabuki that quickly became untenable.

There is nothing to argue about, What Ukrainian?

Ukraine from 1991

The idea that Ukraine isn't a "real" country is a Putin talking point for invading and chopping up Ukraine.... Vova is not good company to have in an argument...

I wrote as stated. And I'll stand by it

You do realize then that Pis have been handing out work permits in the Indian sub-continent like candy for the last few years and that you can't walk around a large Polish city for 10 minutes now without seeing Indian or African delivery bikers....

So, socialists who encourage low wage migration..... tha'ts what you'll be voting for.

News / Kukiz and Petru - newly emerging political stage in Poland [57]

However, as a politician he proved worthless

"Entertainer" and "effective politician" require different skill sets.... that's one reason Hołownia was such a loser, not only does he not have the back up and connections needed to actually do anything as a politician he's been a littel b|tch about losing (rule number one: if you can't take losing..... DON'T RUN!!!!!!)

Participating in TVN's hostile debate

So that just shows how courageous Trzaskowski was to walk into the lion's den for PiS's TV station.

Duda's a coward. Simple. You want to vote for a coward who will do anything the party leader tells him to. Own it.

Language / Am I the only person that can't sing in Polish at all? [48]

in Poland it seems ok to call Jola "Jola," pron. sth like Jolo

Jolu.... (though the vocative is mostly optional in modern Polish)

I didn't realize that the feminine vocative in Bulgarian was obsolete?

What about the distinction between muzhat and muzha (for 'the man')? Do people still follow that in writing (I understand it hasn't been followed in speech for a long time now).
