The late Jerzy Kosinski of BEING THERE fame too spoke and wrote "American" fluently,
albeit with a decided Polish accent!

The differences though between you and Kosinski, apart from the obvious, are that
his accented American English was beautifully articulated, erudite, clever, and learned.

Yiddish contains approx. at last count, some 90% medaeval, Upper German base vocabulary,
followed by at least 70% Hebrew, finally, about 40-50% Polish loan word stock!

Upon their arrival in the New World towards the close of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century,
bastardized English words became incorporated into spoken Yiddish.

At least, this is my understanding based on Leo Rosten, Uriel Weinreich, along with other professional
Yiddishists or Yiddish mavens:-)

Oh, of the latter I'm well aware! :-)
As far as such tricky vowel distinctions like those you mentioned,
I honestly can't think of a single language learner group I've taught in
over thirty years of ESL instruction who can distinguish "bother"/"father",
"mother"/"moth" etc. Then again, I was teaching exclusively US English.

Certain consonantal combinations as well can drive English learners to distraction
and by no means exclusively the Poles.

Younger, university educated Poles tend naturally to have more British-style accents in English than much older,
less educated Poles!

Same all over. While American vocabulary is becoming more common throughout Europe, Europeans still learn
the RP spoken on the BBC rather than American pronunciation.
