Oh, I agree! Integration remains Germany's greatest, indeed most difficult, challenge at the moment, bar none.
One solution might be to be more selective as to whom the government even allows into the country. As far as the
millions of migrants currently residing in the Federal Republic, legally or illegally? Probably economic integration becomes
more important than either linguistic or social integration, in fact, one and the same thing. If, say, an Iranian newcomer is a
whiz in marketing, computer graphic, even the fashion as well as the field of gastronomy and other creative areas, language skills
will fall into place and therefore, the "foreignness" of the outsider will slowly but surely somehow become absorbed into the broader
society.
I realize too that Germany isn't America. A pity that people such as Merkel, Schroeder along with SPD predecessors didn't realize this a lot sooner.

While every nation has indeed their Achilles Heel, the temptations of succumbing to the allure of pagan savagery remain
nonetheless deeply rooted in Germany's history.

Once more, B.B., as I posted prior, failed overly liberal policies have pushed tolerance to its limits
and test Germany's Christian values, making the pagan "virtues" of Hitler's Barbarenvolk ever more tempting
to everyday Germans, frustrated and thwarted by their inability to get either jobs or housing against an onslaught
of foreigners, allowed into the Federal Republic because of the lure of cheap labor!
Around 1960, there was a now famous, to some infamous, photograph taken of a youngish, Portuguese guest worker
being presented with a bicycle as a welcome gift for being the one millionth guest worker in the then fledgling West Germany.
What was once seen naively as a symbol of hope for a happy future later became reviled as a symbol of all the AfD along with
other right wingers despise about the immigrant overload.

A lot easier said than done, I'm afraid. None of us is an automaton and we all have
feelings which on occasion back up into our daily decision making, ward off against such
subjective emotions as we may try.
In a perfect world or if we were all Mr. Spock, we might indeed be able to compartmentalize our emotions.
Unfortunately, we're only human and can only ask for divine forgiveness.
Certainly eighty years ago, in the scheme of things, is but a drop in the bucket and for survivors,
with or without therapy, is as though it happened yesterday!
A lot easier said than done, I'm afraid. None of us is an automaton and we all have
feelings which on occasion back up into our daily decision making, ward off against such
subjective emotions as we may try.

Those so unmercifully wrenched from our midst for no other reason than solely because of who rather than what they were, are that lasting testament to the extent of state sanctioned sadism, doubtless without historical precedent. The seed which spawned a Hitler and his minions is still nestled within the soil of that country and cannot be expunged unless the nation is constantly vigilant.

Let's face it, what happened to minority groups during the Second World War, above all in
Nazi Germany, remains unspeakably horrific, a watershed, regarding which, even over eighty-five years later,
human language fails us miserably.
More so than in the US, Germany has spent nearly all that time ever since bending over ass backwards to try to make
paltry amends to both Jews as well as Roma in order to ensure that nothing similar in future emanates from German soil
EVER AGAIN!!
In Germany to an exaggerated degree, the pendulum has now swung in the polar opposite direction and has
for the past forty-odd years, so that presently, nearly everything "foreign", for a while, "American", (not necessarily "Jewish") has been forced to
be deemed good and practically everything "German" has been forced to be deemed bad, ugly, shameful.
This neurotically out of focus perspective has resulted in the current FRG and it needs to be centered so that true
perspective, if perhaps normalcy" can for the first time finally be achieved.
Only then, can Germans honestly and comfortably celebrate their German identity and arrive at economic balance, in the end being fair
to all their workers, especially, indeed exclusively, in the manufacturing sector.

Here in the US, companies, indeed society in general, have bent over backwards
to attempt to accommodate "others" aka people of color within their organization.
However, all too often, the toxic effects of affirmative action have led to the exact
opposite from what was originally intended, that is, the proverbial fair shake for
everybody.
In my opinion, if an applicant is plain unqualified for the job, don't hire them,
even if they look like Marilyn Monroe, that is, Beyonce and have umpteen church recommendations, bribed the hirer etc.
But in places such as New York City, their complexion is their protection (quoting
Mayoral Presumptive Curtis Sliwa)!
