Life / Why there is always around a horrible smell of sweat in Poland [220]

Didn't take any public transportation when last in Poland during the '90's,
however surely it couldn't be any worse than in Rome during the '70's.
Thought I'd keel over from the stench inside a packed bus in the summer
when I was on a teen tour. Apparently, the windows didn't open and Romans
didn't believe in deoderant!

History / Heil Poland!.....? Poland is a pro-Nazi state? [187]

You're saying then that Catholicism in Poland is/was more of a shield against the onslaught of Communism
post war, than a religious conviction. Is this substantively correct?

If anything, present-day Poland bends over backwards to accomodate Jewish people.
Whether it's a "police state" or not, I couldn't say as I never lived in Poland. My experiences
though with Polish people nowadays whom I've met throughout my life, suggest that Poland
remains an arch-Catholic Conservative country, but scarcely Nazi leaning.

Sounds frankly like rubbish to me.

News / The Iran war and Poland [826]

What do you mean here by "moral equivalency"? Yet one more example of
language transference from Polish to English. The words of course are clear
and you obviously know English, however I can't quite grasp your meaning.

And when you write, "break the norms of war", do you mean perhaps "set new standards
for warfare"?

I'm not trying to carp on your English, I simply wish to understand what you are saying, that's all!

@amiga500,
Mine is/are English and German.
Thought I detected some degree of second-language interference in your
reply.
To be frank, Poles tend to remind me of dramaramas when replying to
a complex topic about which they desire to make a serious impression in a second language.

Your writing was not entirely comprehensible. No offense. It's
merely language transference from one thought process to another:-)

Don't see the analogy, amiga500. You're comparing apples and oranges.

Off-Topic / Is Islam a threat to western society? [215]

Would you appreciate it if someone posted same in open forum about YOU?? I doubt it.
Incidentally, I sent you a private mail to which you never responded and please don't hand that bull
that you didn't understand it.

@Korvinus,

Please be warned that such ill-chosen aspersions directed at fellow Forum members
might indeed carry consequences from our Webmaster(s):-)

UK, Ireland / The best way for a Polish person to learn English? [46]

You can't "ban" a language anymore than you can mandate its use,
save in the private sector, for example the airline industry, where there
must be an international language for purposes of safety measures! It just happens
to be English, for the simple reason that it is the most widely recognized language in the world!

There's also an app with which I'm certain you're familiar, called "Speak & Translate", available
everywhere and used in any situation in which the interlocutor doesn't know the other person's
language.

The fact remains that more and more teens, the next along with the current generation, are often so
pig ignorant of all but how to use their i-phones etc. that they are an embarrassment to our society.

I can remember numerous engineering majors in college who were not only competent in math and
technology, but super literate and often were fluent in at least one foreign language, usually German.

AMEN!!!

As usual, Rich is out there trolling again, trying to translate his private, yet public, distaste for
things Polish, especially the language, into a reason why the Poles should speak English while
he never has to utter a word in Polish.

Idiotic as always.

Off-Topic / Is Islam a threat to western society? [215]

According to certain commentators, many Egyptians remain boldly anti-Semitic, not merely anti-Israel.
Jewish tourists for a while were advised not even to visit Egypt on a day trip, as many had been attacked,
one killed. Turned out the latter was an Austrian visitor and not even Jewish.

News / As a Time Capsule From The Holocaust Was Found In Zlocieniec, Poland [34]

Survivors and their families certainly think it should be. However, it is available in bookstores.
I was initially too disgusted by the premise from a fellow Jew even to breeze through it, but in fact,
the book is said to present some interesting, if disturbing, arguments.

Furthermore, there is a difference between the Shiite Muslims as represented by the Iranian, the Saudis, the Iraqis or the Egyptians as opposed to the Sunni branch of Islam as represented traditionally by the Turks. Erdogan, so it seems, is an exception to the more liberal branch of Turkish Muslim beliefs from Bulent up through Tansu Cillar. The Shiites are much more extreme!

As actual, that is, officially documented, survivors continue to die off, tragically, the greater the trend for imposters to fabricate
merely in order to gain both notoriety as well as compensation.

What some SOB's out there will do just to get attention!
