News / Lech Walesa urged to "reduce Russia" to 50 million people [366]

Why should 20 students in each class suffer because of 5 retards

Bingo!

Plus, the feminisation of the teaching profession has, in general, made a mess of the entire thing

Bingo!

Torq's entire posting on this topic is one big B-I-N-G-O

@Bobko

Your observations are the same as mine. Standards have been drastically lowered in the name of self-esteem...or to ensure enrollment doesn't tank.

There's also the cultural aspect. Disruptive crass and self-centered behaviors are tolerated, the quashing of viewpoints other than what is popular, catering to abnormalities, etc.

In grade schools and high schools the curricula are weak or tortuous. I have hope, as we are seeing more and more schools with classical curriculums popping up.

Off-Topic / What's your hobby? [191]

I like cruising the US on country roads and talking to random people

Me too!

One of my favorite things is to get lost while driving along country roads. You see some interesting stuff you'd never come across if you weren't lost.

He's still here and not gone out of his mind...and he still has a couple aquariums.

I am like this guy who bought a toy train set for his kids. :D

Haha. I know what you mean.

A brilliant idea, but I warn you: this stuff is seriosuly addictive.

When I was a kid, my uncle had this addiction. He spent his money on beer and fish. Beer to deal with memories of Viet Nam and 6 fish tanks...to help forget his memories of Viet Nam.

The wife, kids, and I have been talking about getting a fish tank. What kind of fish you got?

News / How will Polish-American relations change if Trump is elected president again? [694]

You do realize that almost none of those currently crossing the border are Mexicans, don't you?

Mexicans are still crossing at a good rate, nevertheless you do make a good point-they aren't the majority. Last stats I saw they make up roughly 25% of the encounters with Border Patrol.

Venezuelans seem to be trending high right now.

Did you know we are even getting Chinese illegaly crossing the border? Freaking Chinese. Plus, citizens of African nations.

Coming to our border should put you at the very end of the line after legal immigrants are taken care of.

I disagree, it should kick you out of the line. You get in line through your country's US consulate.

The Basilica of Our Lady of Licheล„

I think the place is marvelous. I don't get the criticisms. It has taste, elegance, symbolism, and that element that any Cathedral/Basilica is meant to have: it inspires awe-it allows the worshipper to sense his smallness and the grandeur and beauty of God. I highly recommend it.

They don't call me Mr. Sophistication for nothing๐Ÿ˜

At first glance, my sophisticated eye thought the photo was about a guy who has a red claw growing from his finger.

A play on words. A crude way of expressing amazement is to cry out the poetic inquisitively exclamatory phrase: No sh!t?! Here I'm playing on the physicist 's last name to crudely express amazement.

@Alien

Try it as a stand alone sometime. Bet you'd like it. I had an Australian Shiraz the other night by The Black Stump. Very nice.

While the 20th century produced some awful utilitarian architecture, there was a lot of great stuff too. Art Deco, for example, is gorgeous. Great balance and symmetry and elegant lines. Wonderful use of materials.

I've only tried Muscat once, and it was very very sweet also.

Dry bordeaux is nice.

You like shiraz? Probably my favorite grape.

So there's both usefulness

Not to mention the design allows for plenty of natural light. If anyone has ever spent time in an office, you'll know natural light is to die for in most office buildings.

Not sure I'd call this building beautiful or ugly.

I'm surprised it survived. Was the taste altered drastically? Have you ever tried a vacuum stopper instead if a cork to cork after opening? They work pretty good at preserving the taste.

You prefer sweet wines, Alien?

I opened a 2021 Pillastro from Puglia last night. A mildly dry wine soft tannins and berry notes. A smooth joyful wine.

Torqi, do you know the year the two pictures in your post were taken?

You can sense their pride in their countenance and posture, even in their old age.

I flipping love that city.

If I wasn't lazy and "busy" with work right now, I'd include a oicture if the Obelisk at Cytadela where over 5,000 Soviet soldiers are buried.

History / What should Russia and Poland do to become if not friends, then at least not enemies? [945]

Those are relatively recent guys. I'm talking about the 70's and 80's: guys like Carl Lewis, Ronaldo Nehemiah, Edwin Moses.

Besides, let's not forget the recent Russian doping scandal; which is not to say Americans and everyone else aren't doping.

No such thing existed in the Soviet Union. Not in East Germany. Or in Cuba

Technically, correct; because there wasn't a developed professional system in those countries. Your guys were typically mid-20's. Our guys were mostly college athletes back then.
