Genealogy / What does my Polish name mean? [401]

Probosz/Proboszcz probably derives from "Probst", as in the well-known German artist. The name apparently does come from the Austrian border partition.

Polonia / Poland, Germany, France, Spain or Greece? [35]

Muslims have been integrated into German society for a while now, if not always successfully. If you're referring to the Turks, I
couldn't disagree more - look at Cem Ozdemir, long-term Turkish-German parliamentarian et al if you need proof. The Syrians are a different story though, I'll admit, and it's going to be an uphill battle, that's for sure.

Polonia / Poland, Germany, France, Spain or Greece? [35]

Touristy probably for a very good reason; there's a lot of cultural richness to experience which is therefore good for the Polish tourist trade! Lord only knows it needs it, in addition to a good stiff dose of some skillful public relations:-)

News / Poles start to feel arrogant and superior to Southern Europeans [182]

All such discussion is based purely on ethnocentrism and cultural relativism!
I've never been to Nairobi, but have been told by Europeans visiting there that it has an impressive infrastructure and many elegant edifices....I don't especially who provided the money or the know-how:-)

Polonia / Poland, Germany, France, Spain or Greece? [35]

Krakow is still considered by many to be the crowning jewel among Polish cities. Although I've not yet been,
had I had more time way back during my first visit to Poland, I'd have done much better to have seen the
Sukiennica, Wawel and the Old Town, than Szczecin:-)

Language / Information on Polish textbook Hurra Po Polsku [33]

As I can now vaguely recollect, there is or was a series with different cover colors. I believe it was "Mowimy po polsku" or somewhere in that series, but it was a paperback edition with a dark blue jacket and was an advanced text/"primer".

There's another such book, also all in Polish, (doubtless reprinted numerous times, or maybe by now long out of print) entitled "Brak mi slow", which had countless tips for vocabulary building, with exercises, but no CD.

Language / Information on Polish textbook Hurra Po Polsku [33]

All that may well change as Poland takes on an ever greater role in the EU!
Poland is, next to Spain and France, the third largest country on the European continent, not including millions of Polish citizens living and working abroad.

It has a population, still largely non-English speaking, as compared with France, Germany among others, nonetheless eager and willing to take part in the larger European workforce.

Learning Polish will thus become of immense importance in the not too distant future.

Looks fairly interactive to me as a foreigner, Pan Zbigniew:-)
I used two Polish-language textbooks with listening component, the more recent being "Wsrod Polakow" (1999).
Although I was learning one-on-one with a Polish native speaker, I regreted only the lack of more authentic material in Polish, instead of translated excerpts in often somewhat fractured EnglishLOL

News / Poland in the European Union. Polexit? [559]

Although I live on the other side of the Pond, so to speak, I feel nonetheless that a Polexit would be sheer folly on the part of the current government! What could Poland possibly gain from it anyway?

Off-Topic / Random movies (not Polish) proposed by forum users [91]

Afraid the last "great" Russian film I saw was "Oblomov" based on a Gogol short story, I believe, way back in the late '80's:-)

"Nikita Magalov's "Slave of Love" came much later, but I only saw the trailersLOL
