History / Kashubians are nation in Poland? [124]

An almost-the-same language makes as much sense

It makes a lot of sense if you think about it. People are actually commutating this way believe it or not.
I don't care about that. I'm talking about your proclivity to cancel languages and everything you don't like or don't understand, what up with your cancel culture eh?

it would be more practical and simple to cancel you ....

News / Ryszard Czarnecki - Poland's politician and Member of the European Parliament [30]

he wasn't as his fraud

All our political system is build on a fraud. It encourage and enables fraud. Talking about so called liberal democracy.
For a real democracy to exist there should be strong middle class that outnumbers both those enormously rich and those who are poor or a hired help.

Such a middle class imbedded in Christian values, strong with civic duties and having a stake in running a country i.e. taxes.
Once the balances are disturbed all that talk about democracy is just screen smoke and mirrors and the real deals goes behind the curtain.

Retargeting so called citizen to a role of populous (not even plebs) in the ancient Rome.

If it's the same as Polish, time to cancel it.

stop talking rubbish, will you. You are retarded aren't you? I mean you are dysfunctional on a social level.

This is debatable.

which maybe important for the linguists to keep arguing about it but it doesn't impart any light on the issue we are talking about in this thread.

Why? Do you naively believe that those politicians and that system set in Brussels is for them to actually do something useful? Its all there to corrupt people, in other words to give them an ample opportunity to take as much money they can. I bet rules are ambiguous as to traveling expenses on purpose so they can if someone is not careful enough use it to pull on his string whilst others with the same or worse attitude towards traveling expenses won't even get mention. That of course doesn't excuse that poor excuse of a man.

That is where all those European funds go.

his own experiences

100 years ago. If we agree that his opinion reflect some general truth, IF we assume it is about their real stance on the issue and not a response tuned to a German kid in the circumstances of the III Reich, still it would only tell us about state of affairs' 100 years ago.

What about now? That is the question. Grass and his mussing might be amusing or not but that particular take of his on the issue is outdated so much so that can hardly be of any use today.

If you have nothing else - you are out!

sense the Polish take

It is. I don't know about 50 years ago or about 50 in the future but here right now it is what any Polish (not a Soviet) person would make out of it.

Kashubians and Silesians are small minorities,

They are, in a sense. As Polish nation has been build from such a small minorities whose customs and names lasted as long as there was a will and a need to keep it amongst those small minorities.

Even Warsaw as late as1526 wasn't feeling Polish but Mazovian.

e traitor within your ranks Herr Donald Tusk. ?

Why would they deal with him? Its not middle ages, he is an individual.

History / Kashubians are nation in Poland? [124]

That's a weak response,

It wasn't! That was over 90 years ago or even closer to the 100. In a totally different landscape and a political reality. That region was a part of the Germany while it was ravaged by a chauvinistic totalitarians ideology. Grass was a German first and foremost, he was only playing with his second identity as Kaszubian being an artist and having attachment to the region.

Naturally Kaszubian belong to the Polish nation, not being Germanic or not being part of the Germany that long.
All this aside - his individual experience doesn't equal an objective truth. With you being a dunce I have to more oft then not go back to basics and state the obvious. geez ! Do better next time.

Do you regard being obnoxious and opinioned on issues you have at best a vague idea about your idea of being wise?

all British people are English. Some of us mostly aren't.

Dude that is not the point! It about narrative that builds up an artificial term to call people in the uk and ascribes to it an adjective 'native' when in fact nothing could be further from the truth. It just a myth, keep it I don't care.

My point being is that if THAT particular myth has more holes than a sieve who are you to challenge Polish take on issues in regard of all things Polish ?

and one that reflected his experience as a Kashub.

Which he wasn't, having one parent to be of a certain cultural persuasion doesn't automatically make a child to be it. That is a very simplistic outlook that doesn't take into account hundreds of factors that are at play. His experiences as a young lad in Hitler Youth must have had a much stronger effect on him, still those are only his experiences that doesn't reflect reality but only a very limited part of it as it was 90 years ago.

In other worlds - stop waffling.

Could be, however

Exactly, the only thing that makes Kaszubs different is the fact that they have their regional culture going strong, while others weren't really bothered much by it.

There are few others that are on par with them and many more that do not see their own local traditions as anything other than their own local tinge on their Polish identity.

Each for each own.

DNA markers s

Are you truly insane? Reviewing some Nazi take on things? Ah, that your English take too - all about blood and fatherland eh?
Even if that doesn't make much sense, less so than in the case of Poland.
Saxons and Angles, and then Normans invalided Brits, conquered them and then marginalized them and then went about calling themslefses British and as an ingenious people of the Isles. That is not even logically coherent not to mention DNA markers and you are trying to poke holes in the Polish narrative. Are you bored?

What part

It was a rhetorical question. Is not that uncommon you know. Yet you seems to be taken aback every time I use it.

too German for the Poles".

Says who? Everybody has his /her local identity or should have. They are not too German for ME, so clearly Grass was searching for a nice sentence not for the truth.

The Poles could subdivided into Masurians (not to confuse with those Prussian Protestant ones), Silesians, Kuyavian, Oppolian, Lower Silesians/Red Ruthenians, Even Malopolians but those merged with Wiekoplians are what constitute core Polish people, Kurpie, Lach Sadeckie, Gorale, there is more but those are from the top of my head.

Love / Do Polish people like Scottish people (friendship or relationship with a Scot)? [56]

For some irrational reason Scots have a good rep in Poland.

I don't think that would make a great difference when it come to a friendship or relationship. I mean there are some nasty cu.ts out there to whom it would be imperative which ethnic persuasion an individual they associate with belongs. Broadly speaking thought its boils down to individual preferences.

Nationality doesn't constitute that much of a factor.

Life / Why Milosz not Herbert ? [38]

Why Milosz was buried at Skalka (Saint Michael the Archangel and Saint Stanislaus the Bishop and Martyr Basilica)?
1. He wasn't from Krakow.
2. He spend most of his life in the USA.
3. He wasn't particularly distinguished (yes there is the Nobel Prize but still)
4. He collaborated with Soviets at the very beginning of the Soviet occupation of Poland. When only very few people were corroborating with Soviet installed Puppets. Most was against them and quite a few were resisting - shooting at them.

That makes him a traitor and a commie.
What that because he was supported by post-PRL Soviets' in Poland?
Was that because he wanted to be remembered as a distinguished Polish poet not a third rate English author and a commie without a country?

None ask even ask those questions. They should be asked.

Note to Mods:( I post it here knowing you will marge it anyway, if I'm wrong feel free to repost it as a thread in its own right, All the best.)

History / Polish military uniforms - collar markings [74]

3 buttons/insignia on the right chest,

Those are insignia I'm not a military geek so won't tell you what they are exactly but those either are regimental insignia or/and some military badges.

That photo was taken between 1935 and 1936.

Life / Territorials - Polish National Guard [57]

Ah, so you knew, but forgot! How convenient lol

Not forgot I know about those issues and that different procedures were used to buy guns for Territorials, that was Maciarewicz. and so on ...
what I said is that those issues with onet and that yapping about faulty weapon has been in current news some time ago, I already forgot about that and pawain brings it up to do fore

nothing new

Had they been?

If not all that most of them, I don't work for them OK. For someone who is not involved directly in all those things with that weapon I would say that my knowledge of the subject is pretty extensive. Anyways is that you point is that your take you know some geek with a specific knowledge of some technology and if I will make mistake about one screw it will somehow nullify validity of what I have to say?

It doesn't work that way for a simple reason - that weapon is generally a good weapon with a great potential.
In Poland circumstances and reality is better that all those decision as they were unperfect had been made to give that gun a chance.
Ask your source what he prefer no GROT or GROT as it is - which can be improved upon.

I see, so onet.pl wasn't "lying" or "manipulating".

Of course they were manipulating. What the message an average dude get from that - hey PiS bought faulty guns, Grot is a junk.
That they go after PiS I get it but they go after the gun and Polish manufacturing at the same time - and that stinks.

That's bullsh1t. Somehow they've been producing guns for years

They have been improving upon AK-47, they have been doing it since 70' or 60' . That is a different story than a brand new construction.
Polish army needs a new gun. Taking another ten to 15 years to bring up an untested gun will rule it out. They would go after foreign tested construction - that is the reality we are talking about.

. What if it wasn't published?

Well, that is a good question. I think they would improve those guns on the sly without informing the public about it. Hey but otherwise what can I say you got a point.

Yeah, you want a lot and I might as well agree with you. However I'm down to earth realist and I know what the reality is now.

What you want is laws and procedures that make this country' work efficiently for the good of its citizen and so do I. Hence I support Konfa and you should support them too. lol

It well may be that Lucznik kicked out it Chairman because his sidekick spilled the beans to onet to get rid of him as he wanted to take his place or some such.

It nice that you think it was because he F up!
What a nice thought!

Cut down on the number of quotes please

Life / Territorials - Polish National Guard [57]

Do you have any clue, Iron? I

Yes I do! I have already forgotten about that issue, It has been raised some time ago. As far as I know all those issues had been already addressed by the producer.

Wasted taxpayers money

I look at that from a different point of view:
1. Polish procedures are **** for the most part anyways. There is always a way around them.
2.What has been already done is in the past.
3.The only reason they harp about it is because they want to sling mud at PiS. It is a good angle as any to do that.

4. That money let them build their production line and move forward with the construction. Better used than on 500 plus.
If they were just doing it by the book in Poland it would mean that that project would be put on hold or it would take another 10 years.

It very possible that With a different gov - say those from PO. They would just roll it up completely.

The key point here is that GROT is a modern and good construction( regardless of all those flaws). It is Polish construction and it is a good practice for a country to have its own weaponry. Not to mention that economically it could be a very good venture for Poland.

Poland needs its own manufactures.

Face it. There is no other reason to talk about it now other that political like in the political low key games not political as in a matter of state and statehood.

I suppose Iron didn't realise whom he stumbled upon

I think you dear Paulina and your cohorts often underestimate me. All facts you put in there I was well aware of it.
As for M-16 it took years to eliminate all its flaws and work on a militaries gun is always a work in progress. So no matter how many years ago it was there is a lesson in that. The other HK German military gun - ask your source about that if you are interested.

On the other hand it was years ago so ...lol!

No, I don`t get

Exactly, so you should stop talking about issues you have no clue about.

BECASE every new weaponry has smaller or bigger issues at the beginning, there is not prefect ready weapon at the first go. All countries and all weapons' had those issues. HK, M-16 and so on....there isn't anything major wrong with GROT.

What is that you don't get?

You are lying

listen dumb ass ,either you are lying because you like to sling manure at PiS at any cost or you are an idiot who has no clue about the issue, doesn't understand the issue and doesn't care to learn about the issue. Either way shut your mug as you don't know what you are talking about. Got it?

it isn't a lie, read this:

It is a lie (I read Lenka post) because it is a manipulation. To people who have no clue about weaponry and have no time or will to learn about it s might be even convincing. Their conclusion is just worthless BS. BECASE every new weaponry has smaller or bigger issues at the beginning, there is not prefect ready weapon at the first go. All countries and all weapons' had those issues. HK, M-16 and so on....So chill....there is nothing major wrong with GROT.

As much worthless as that malicious scum who would do anything and everything to throw mud at PiS. I have no love for PiS but I wouldn't never attack any gov venture that is actually good for Poland. I have integrity but those pigs are just a nasty little *****.

They have no such reservation and that why they are worthless scum. As they must know what they are doing.
So don't be naïve Paulina, dislike PiS for the right or you own reasons but don't buy into every nonsense fitly rags like those cook up!

You think it is funny that PIS are acting on Putin behalf?

No its funny that you pushing this BS on here. Do you really think that anyone will buy into your nonsense or you just do it anyway because you are a dick and can't help yourself.

They are selling Poland

As you and PO sold Poland long time again to anyone who wanted ti buy it and their only beef with PiS is that cannot continue with that sellout.

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

he Police Chef opinion.

What is a lot of crap! That is an arbitrary decision and he can always say no dude - you don't need a gun. Now go F Y. On the other hand if you know some politicians or are willing to pay certain amount of money that is an entire different story.

I would rather do it as we did it in 1989.

Don't be daft! Just don't!

It always wonders me what is the argument for guns besides 'we want them?'

Look, why not? Why law would deny people their right to own a gun? While we are on that - to be able to defend their own house against an intrusion?

It about mentality, to ban everything including knifes it just a great nonsense!
Politician get an easy way out and lots of people buy into it.

Law / Polish Police and Their Tactics [237]

Hence people in Poland not wanting to see them.

Don't talk for people in Poland.
Majority of people in Poland don't want guns for following reasons:
1. They have been used to the Soviet reality where only trusted Soviet Scum was allowed to have a gun.
2. They think that those who want a gun in Poland can get one with all the checking procedures and so all. Whereas in fact it is not so.

3. When' the gun law] in Poland is debated they imagine an 'American style' where (they assume wrongly that any Dick and Harry can walk into a shop and buy a bag of guns and munitions) all those shooting take place.

4. They personally do not want a gun (or cannot afford one) and think that their next door neighbor or some moron will get a gun and start shooting like a moron does on a street just for fun. Basically distrust their own countrymen.

A main problem in Poland with gun licenses is that that the police can refuse to issue you one just because. They don't have to give you a reason.

You can fulfill all the requirements that are stated in the law ( a psychological test and so on) and they tell - NO GFY!

So the issue in Poland at the moment pursued by the gun owners association is to make such authoritarian ruling by the police unlawful. Also they want to make same common sense changes to the law.

In this light talking about 'American style' gun ownership is just like a fairy tale.
Although it would be nice if in the future people who wants to own a gun or several would be able to do that.

Law / Polish Police and Their Tactics [237]

if you were holding an illegal gun or if he told you to halt and you took off running.

I don't know how they are teach to react in practice but if someone has a gun they can of course shoot that person. My guess is they would use a weapon on such a person. Would they use it right away, would they do it of that was a 13 years old boy. I don't know but the law says they can shoot if someone is a danger to life and health of a policeman or other people and refuse to listen to the police they can shoot.

What would he do if he ordered you out of your car and you refused

He wouldn't use a gun. That certain. Could use force but not a gun. Unless they suspect you were a criminal or you would have attempted to drive away.

What measures would he take to defend himself ?

He can defend himself but it wouldn't be his first instinct to use a gun. Against a knife or some kind of makeshift weapon yes but not against fists of a lone individual.
