I would save a few zloty but the cap is quite small at 27k

If you maxed it last year and put everything into a WIG tracker, you'd have got a 25% return (26% less management fee). The CGT is 19% here, and 19% of 25% of 25k is 1,187zl, which is worth filing in a form.

the Alior fee

Just had another look at the Alior website: they're offering 0zl commission on all purchases of Polish ETFs for the whole of 2025. I reckon I'm filling my IKE for this year with that offer.

the Alior fee - I think 0,4% on the way in and 0,4% on the way out

It's 3.8% if you do under 300,000zl. Although I bought 50 shares in PZU (mostly for the 20% discount on insurance) yesterday and paid 11.80zl on 3,107zl, which I make slightly less than 3.8%.

While I remember, do you trade from an IKE brokerage account?

Law / Polish Police and Their Tactics [237]

Two very good climbers who can get up to a high floor ?

Did you read about that bloke in Gdansk who saw somebody abseil onto his balcony, clip his very expensive bike to their harness and then abseil off again? He ran onto the balcony and cut the rope.

cms have a read of this: fund-docs.vanguard[dot]com/ie00bfmxxd54_priipskid_en.pdf

Units available via Alior brokerage. "Management fees and other administrative or operating costs
0.07% of the value of your investment p.a. This is an estimate based on actual costs over the last year and takes account of any known future changes."

Study / A medical school called UPS in Poland? [7]

Before that it was AP (Akademia Pomorska) and even earlier a WSP (Wyższa Szkoła Pedagogiczna).

Sounds like you have a bit of local knowledge.

it has been averaging between six or seven years to double my money and you are jealous because you don't have the brains to do it

LOL! Yet again the Michigan Mystic tries to boast about his inability to match the market! If somebody merely tracked the S&P 500 instead of trying to pick winners, they'd have doubled their money in just five years. And to double one's money by tracking the Nasdaq, one would have needed to invest in October 2022, less than half the time the Michigan Mystic claims he's able to double his fantasy money.

I saw a bona fide musical genius say it best:
He's the Michigan Mystic, a legend in his mind
In the real world, he's just another loser left behind
He's just a joke, a fraud, a story I'm sick of tellin'
While his whole damn world is failin'.

Life / A warning to Poland: Germany's catastrophic immigration policy: 80-90% criminal manhunts are ARABS / foreigner [83]

Why did Euro voters want all these Muslim migrants?

Maybe something to do with them not being bigots? Maybe it's connected for the need in Europe for people to fill the jobs left empty by an aging population? Perhaps it's due to large parts of Europe having experienced war in living memory and so understanding that sometimes people need a safe place to go to?

is no longer fit for purpose.... it needs to be scrapped, it serve no useful purpose anymore

That's something which we could discuss. What is indisputable, however, is that it is now in force and needs to be obeyed until/unless it is reformed.

It is true because that would advocate a crime of entering a country illegally and then "asking" for an asylum.

Again, no, because countries which are signatories of the 1951 convention cannot "impose penalties, on account of their illegal entry or presence, on refugees" (that bit is so short I'm allowed to quote it).

Being pushed into a check mate. Can't move one way, can't move the other.

I think the term is "zugzwang", but it's a German word, so we should ask our newly revealed resident German: jimmy rapist.

Could you possibly pass on to her the sentiments expressed in this thread?

Law / Gun control in Poland: should Polish people be allowed to own guns? [1070]

In Poland, you don't have the right to self-defense.

I noticed it, I just filed it under "Yet more proof that Novi knows nothing about Poland".

But perhaps you'd care to read Art. 25(1) of the Polish Penal Code?
1. Anyone who, out of necessary self-defence, repels a direct illegal attack on any legally protected interest is not deemed to have committed an offence.

1. Under the UN rules, one must apply for asylum OUTSIDE of the host country.

That simply is not true. Have a read of Art. 31 linked to above.

all those judged in Nuremberg were victims of revenge, as they hadn't broken any laws.

Interesting that you don't consider the following to be illegal: crimes against peace, war crimes, crimes against humanity, mass murder, unethical human experimentation, false imprisonment, hate crimes and conspiracy to commit the above.

Interesting but not exactly surprising.

An irrelevant non-binding law by an obsolete institution.

Guess again: it's a legally binding international agreement that requires all signatory state to take certain actions (and to refrain from taking others).

All you have to do is turn back the boats.

Which cannot legally be done. You might be OK with being a criminal, I'm not.

but you can apparently tell who is and isn't genuinely entitled under UK law to asylum just by looking at them.

No, I can't, just as you can't. And that's why each case has to assessed individually. But what I can do is, and you apparently can't, is read the relevant law.

Short answer no, they are criminals for coming to the UK illegally, and should be sent straight back to France.

I would suggest you read Art. 31 of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees. It's too long to quote here but you can read it at
ohchr[dot]org/en/instruments-mechanisms/instruments/convention-relating-status-refugees

Do let me know if you need any help with the longer words.
