News / SHOULD POLAND HAVE NUKES?? [154]

Let's discuss this. Should Poland have them considering its history?

What do you mean "considering it's history"? Look at US and Russia. We haven't exactly had stable, conflict free histories, yet we have them. In my opinion, no place on earth should have the damn things. They are way too dangerous for anyone to have. It wouldn't bother me if everyone on the planet decided to get rid of them and never make new ones.

USA, Canada / Why are Polish Americans mocked in the American media? [226]

Then again, you must consider, before PC, everyone was mocked heavily in the US. There were tasteless jokes about absolutely every ethnic group on earth. Poles were just one of the many.

History / Should David Irving, Holocaust denier, be allowed to run tours to Poland? [246]

Thing is, he loses money on it. Stubbornly.

He loses money on it when he sells out his venues...that doesn't make a lot of sense...and I wouldn't believe for a minute that he loses money despite what he says. He is going to say anything to make himself seem legitimate and not after attention and income.

Historians are a dime a dozen and typically do not make a lot of money, so what are they going to do? Think of ways to challenge history so people pay attention to them and pay to see them give a lecture. With all those historians lecturing on the same thing from the same historical point of view, it's hard for a dude like D. Irving to make a buck, so he twists history around, gives a different perspective, and suddenly people are interested in hiring him to lecture above other historians. He's got the perfect schtick.

As for him being allowed to give tours, the best way to stop him is to not show up at his lectures and tours. That way he sells no tickets and he has no reason to continue.

He just sounds like another dude out to get attention, fame and money for himself. Hell, if I were a historian and thought I could make a lot of money denying the holocaust and going on tours denying it, what great incentive to deny it happened that would be!

Travel / My visit to Poland - Likes & Dislikes. [137]

Its not hard, its all part of the experience of travelling, if I wanted to hear English everywhere I'd go Margate for my holidays ;0)

It is hard if you don't speak their language and they don't speak yours. How else are you goingn to communicate with people? Why do you think everything is written in French, English and Spanish? It's so people will be less confused.

You get this a lot here in the states, huh.

Only near the southern border.

I can't tell if you liked your visit to Poland or no. Maybe only for two weeks, eh? It's hard staying in a place when you don't know the language. If very few people speak your language, you can have a very trying time and can feel isolated.

Life / POLISH MYTHS - let's debunk or prove them! [140]

:(

I got a myth for you to decipher...

Too much frowning causes creases on the sides of your mouth known as "frown lines". Is this truth or is it a myth?

The glass splinter would cause a blood clot or rip a vein as it travels...that would cause bleeding or blockage. You might have an aneurism first, if the clot reaches your brain.

stepped on broken glass, got a splinter in his blood,

You can get a splinter of glass just under your skin, but not in your veins, unless the splinter is too fine to cause any damage. A splinter large enough to cause your heart damage would be too large to travel there via your veins. It would wreck havoc on a vein long before it reaches your heart.

So that would be

myth

but to collect it carefully, wind the room and send the mercury to the utilisation unit.

That's very difficult to do. The mercury can break into nearly microscopic beads. What we need are thermometers which contain no mercury whatsoever.

ok, do you know how many liters of water can poison one little battery? They give as a fee for throwing away electrotrash because of mercury and other hazardious elements and you say that they would think you are nuts because you called the pogotowie chemiczne? Its not my idea, I just read that in such cases ppl whould call them.

It's the way it should be and I pat them on the back. You might think it's nbd if you alone throw a battery away. It's not just you, it's everyone who will throw away 1000 or more batteries in one lifetime. It's the same with mercury. With all those people breaking thermometers, we have a serious crisis on our hands.

seriously?

We must all do our part to discourage this class of thermometer breakers. They are a serious threat to national security.

They charge you about 100,000 each thermometer which is why you shouldn't break them to begin with. It's actually a form of chemical warfare.

Not a fire brigade. Instead, a hazardous materials removal unit should do the trick ;)
You have to treat it like you would asbestos or any other dangerous material.
It must be immediately contained then taken to the appropriate recycling facility.
You must use a certified mercury vacuum, suction the floor, ceiling, walls, furniture, knick knacks, air, and anything else with it. You then take the bag to the appropriate facility.

And it's a good thing we no longer have mercury in thermometers. That stuff can accumulate and before you know it, there's holes in your cerebral cortex.

Love / Are all beautiful Polish girls as crazy as this? [262]

You have to look at reality. She is a young, good looking, woman. She knows she can attract many men of all ages, so she is letting all that go to her head because she feels entitled to treat people any old way she wants. You have played into this, since you are older and no doubt she has you wrapped completely around her finger. You can either put up with it or send her back to men her own age.

My favorite myth is

"If you pet a kitten on Monday you won't catch a cold the following Friday when you grocery shop".

So far, it's worked for me.

History / Polish history is 100% glorious [297]

We slant history in regards to native Americans and our treatment of them. Historians debate this a lot.

History / Polish history is 100% glorious [297]

It doesn't seem that unusual. In some instances, I think Americans do this very thing, we make some of what we did sound like it was a good thing when it might have been for selfish reasons and shameless profiteering.

History / Poles should emulate Jews? [153]

Emulating Jewish nepotism and usury are plainly horrible suggestions,

Most of the world is like this, not just Jews.

as is taking Poland down the racist ethno-centric path

Poland and Israel do not have much in common. Jewish zionsts advocated for the birth of the Jewish nation in a turbulant land where it once stood thousands of years ago. Poles never left Poland only to return thousands of years later to establish their own nation. The situations are entirely different.

History / Poles should emulate Jews? [153]

We should emulate humanity. We are all the same genetically except one percent, that's only superficial traits like eye and hair color, skin color, body and facial shapes, thickness of hair. Genetically, there is no such thing as race. Like it or not, human beings are all pretty much the same so get over yourselves ffs. Life is too short to spend it pissed off at everyone else!
