It's about regaining independence of Poland in 1918 and rebuilding the state.
It hasn't got an English version yet but you can watch it with English subtitles.

For those who can't remember or don't know the first video.

Has the IPN ever reminded us of this popular saying circulating among the population in November 1918?
Ni z tego ni z owego, a tu Polska na pierwszego!

The saying underlined the fact that re-gaining independence as a result of the WW I came as a great surprise to many ...

I really like that video, too. Although I wish it had some commentary as well.

I have not seen this one before, thanks for posting Kaprys.
I have seen and posted your second video before to PF.

this reminds me of the history of poland animation

I have seen and posted this to PF too, but well worth another watch.

There don't seem to be be too many people on PF interested in the Patriotic history of Poland..... :-(

I think this is a superb video and explains fully what is happening in Europe right now and especially where Poland stands.

lol molyneux and robinson, i don't deny they have some good points, esp robinson but he has an idealised non polish perspective of it all. molyneux is a bit of a hack. i'm sure we can dig a little bit deeper intelectually ;)

"In a world where national identity matters greatly, mixing different peoples together, which is what happens when there are open borders and broadminded refugee policies, is usually a prescription for serious trouble." belfercenter.org/sites/default/files/files/publication/International%20Security_Bound%20to%20Fail.pdf

Tomorrow is another anniversary.

In short - what happened in 1918?: Poland regained independence after 123 years of being partitioned and occupied by Germany, Austria and Russia.

How did it happen? The partition powers had fallen off and fought with each other in WW1: Germany and Austria versus Russia. Thanks God, all of them lost.

And Poland resurrected.

How simple. :):)

Disarming German soldiers in Warsaw on 11 November. I mean, they were disarmed by Polish militia men. :):):)

Ni z tego ni z owego, a tu Polska na pierwszego!

I have never heard this saying really.

You haven't, nevertheless it was recorded in the memoirs of the day.

The saying shows that the re-emergence of Poland was kind of unexpected event for many. What is obvious to you now, hadn't been so obvious for the people of the time even in the beginning of November 1918.

regaining independence of Poland in 1918

It cost the Polish nation a lot.
Military losses
Eastern front -
war with bolsheviks - 60.000 dead
war with Ukrainians - 10.000 dead

Western front
Greater Poland Rising against Germans - 2300 dead
Silesian Risings against Germans - 1200 dead.

In the south - a few dozen lives lost in the war with Czechs.

Add 120.000 wounded to the above.

About 250.000 casualties altogether, not counting civilians.

That was the price paid for independence and integrity of the resurrected state.

Poland`s wedding to the Baltic Sea took place in 1918. General Haller had 2 platinium rings - he threw one into the water and kept the other, wearing it on his finger all his life.

Kossak rendered the scene in a famous painting below.

However, the historical truth was modified by the artist to look better in his works.

The Bay of Puck was frozen over at the time. The Kashubians, who had kept watch over the Baltic Sea for 123 years of captivity, defending Polishness there, helped this time too. They made a hole in the ice, Haller goes to it, throws the ring in.

Other sources say that the ring stopped on the edge of this hole. There was consternation, what to do so that it would fall into the sea. Colonel SkrzyƄski rode onto the frozen surface and with his horse's hooves broke the ice so that the ring would fall into the sea.
