Quit rationalízing! By the end of '45, even the winners were losers if their sons or daughters tragically perished in the eternal pursuit of justice. Sacrifice too has its human limits! Questions are meant to ask, not inform. Mine were meant to give an opportunity to put some specifics on your meaningless, lofty proclamations.
Talking about the meaning of life is cute if you are a professor holding a glass of wine. When you are in charge of conducting and winning a war, talking meaningless bs the way you do it, is hard to justify. So I am not surprised that you have nothing to say when asked how that high moral ground of yours would translate into specific orders given to the US pilots. My guess is that they would tell you to shut up and get out of the way. You would get the same from the Israelis in 1967 and 1973.

What separates humans from the four-legged variety of animal is their practiced ability to control language. Those high-minded verities (basic truths) you sneer at are the only things worth defending:-) If not, then might as well move into the local zoo and rent space next to a tiger, hippo or giraffe!
