Dutchmen in Polish history !

How many of them ? I don't know!
I know only about one:

Arend Dickmann (1572–1627) - Admiral in the Polish Navy. He was a Dutchman, born in Delft under the name Arend Dijckman. From 1608 he lived in Gdansk, being an owner of a merchant ship. In 1626 he entered in the service of the Polish king Sigismund III Vasa. On 24 November 1627 he was nominated as admiral of the Polish Navy.

During the victorious Battle of Oliwa against the Swedish fleet (28 November 1627) he commanded the Polish Navy in the galleon Sankt Georg. The Poles captured the Swedish galleon Tigern and made another, Solen, to be scuttled by her crew, but Admiral Dickmann was killed onboard the Tigern, being shot by a cannonball through his legs. He received a state burial in Gdansk.

Many Dutchmen came to the Gdańsk delta area to help control the waters as they did in their homeland. They established by invitation of Polish nobles, Oleander villages.

I guess

Vandals Germanic tribe had a great tradition for mutilations
They kin Dutch are also in business of destruction
Somehow they destroy balance of the nature putting barriers to the sea
Now, they want mutilate objects of beauty - barbarians!
Yet, they will learn someday, weeping for lost Art - its only beginning!

Preface

The purpose of this publication is to provide documentation for the material cultural heritage associated with the Dutch settlements in Mazowsze dating from the 17th century to the 1940s, including villages, crofts, residential and farming buildings, as well as churches and cemeteries.

Dutch settlement, which targeted non-cultivated floodplains located along the rivers (Vistula, Bug Wkra, and others), was developed on the lands of the Republic of Poland in the 16th century. The colonists originated in Friesland and Flanders and while their inflow was a result of religious prosecution, it also had pragmatic reasons.

The Dutch were very numerous during 16th/17th century. At one point Polish king was going to kick them out but james V! of Scotland wrote to him asking for them to be allowed to stay.

The Dutch were his allies, I believe. Probably cos they were protestant nation. James VI of Scotland was also James I of England.

James was quite matey with Polish king, as there were more than a few Scots in Poland at that time too.

Dutchmen in Polish history !

after first encounters with the Dutchmen, ancestors of modern day Poles finished as slaves on some slave market on western side of Europe, Near East or Northern Africa. Later, Dutchmen were considered to be among masters and Poles among servants.

Today, Dutchmen and Poles are in alliance. That`s in short chronology of Dutchmen in Polish history.
