Sun Tzu: A kingdom that has once been destroyed can never come again into being;
nor can the dead ever be brought back to life.
Józef Piłsudski: Hold my beer.

On this day in 1935 died Marshal Józef Piłsudski.

Cześć Jego pamięci!

Is that necessary? He was all right, I guess.
Had too many flaws to be an example of a leader and a statesman.
Successful commander in war with the soviets - that's about it.

WTF? Who hacked Iron's account? Piłsudski has always been the symbol of Polish independence. FFS - our Independence Day is celebrated on the day that commemorates transferring military and political authority to him, recognizing him as Commander-in-Chief!

What else? Let's see...

1. Architect of the Idea of Armed Struggle for Independence

As early as the beginning of the 20th century, Piłsudski believed that Poland could regain independence through military action, especially by exploiting the conflict between the partitioning powers. He founded several paramilitary organizations, including:

Union of Active Struggle (1908)

Riflemen's Association (from 1910)

Polish Legions (1914)

The Polish Legions, which he commanded during World War I, became a symbol of the fight for independence-primarily against Russia, which Piłsudski viewed as the main enemy of Polish sovereignty.

2. Oath Crisis and Imprisonment

In 1917, Piłsudski refused to swear loyalty to the German Kaiser. This led to the Oath Crisis, after which he was arrested and imprisoned by the Germans in the Magdeburg Fortress. His refusal turned him into a national hero and a symbol of the uncompromising struggle for an independent and sovereign Poland-not one subordinated to any of the occupying powers.

3. Assuming Power on November 11, 1918

After his release from prison on November 10, 1918, Piłsudski returned to Warsaw. The next day, the Regency Council transferred military and political authority to him, recognizing him as Commander-in-Chief. This date-November 11-is now celebrated as Poland's Independence Day.

4. Building the State and the Army

Following the restoration of independence, Piłsudski played a decisive role in organizing the structures of the newly reestablished Polish state and creating the Polish Army,
defending the borders of the Second Polish Republic-especially during the Polish-Soviet War of 1920, when his strategic counteroffensive from the Wieprz River led to victory in the Battle of Warsaw.

5. Symbol of Independence

Thanks to his independent stance, military initiative, and leadership, Piłsudski became a symbol of a free Poland. Even his political opponents acknowledged his essential contribution to the restoration of independence.

Józef Piłsudski was the chief architect of Poland's independence in 1918. Through his strategy, courage, and political foresight, Poland regained its freedom after 123 years of foreign rule. He was not only a military leader but also a statesman with a clear vision for a sovereign Polish nation

And he had a bigger mustache than Hitler and Stalin combined. 🙂

Quite big.

As Nostradamus wrote:
Mieszko's heir with whiskers proud shall stand,
More vast than Stalin's tache across the land.
Yet not as luxuriant as those of Mazur's wife,
In whose pubic tresses cockroaches are rife.

Should we post about the anniversary of his death?

Piłsudski has always been the symbol of Polish independence.

Are you talking about symbols? I talk about real people and real politicians.
As a symbol, there is nothing to say but Hail to the Commander.
If we talk about reality, that is an entirely different matter.
--
Piłsudski believed that Poland could regain independence through military action,

In that case, he was wrong. Poland gained a chance for independence due to the conflict between the partitioning powers and the fact that all three of them lost.
That is a big deal, unprecedented.
Poles at the time were well enough organized and prepared to size that change and defend it with military force built from scratch.
In such circumstances, the fact that he was pestering people about the armed forces has more moral and propaganda value than anything else.
Those couple of thousand people he led are a drop in the bucket in an over-million-strong army.
---
Piłsudski played a decisive role in organizing the structures of the newly reestablished Polish state and creating the Polish Army,

That is not really factual. In fact, he was rather weak in organizing stuff, had people fort it, like Sosnkowski.
Aside from that at the time of his return from Magdebrug, there were already basic structures for a state and military built in places by the overlooked Regent Council.
Any more questions?

Mieszko's heir

In his case, it would be Gedeminous' heir.

Well, it's a Polish forum and it was celebrated all over Poland...

... so perhaps it also merits a short thread on PF? :)

As for the rest, I know you're a Dmowski buff but come on, give credit where credit is due, Piłsudski is one of the fathers of Poland's independence.

Torq has just awakened from a long slumber, and soon will join the ranks of Trump's admirers, bagging forgiveness for past transgressions and to show
his new found loyalty is planning swift, Golden Moron assassination. Welcome and good luck, my new friend ::::))))

I am the real Nostrodamus, that's where. Subtle changes in attitude, behavioral adjustment, potential for making intelligent decisions in time of monumental change in the new world order, I definitely see a future admirer and enthusiastic Trump supporter:::)))

Why would a Polish citizen admire Trump?

There are many reasons. Every time Trump mentions Poland, he is respectful and acknowledges Polish contributions, such as military spending.
Most importantly, his moves affect the whole world, including Poland Despite the forming as the mouth from certain ignorant (Golden Moron and many others)
They are a laughing stock for regular participants. So far, every move Trump made is proving to be correct, I would say far-reaching, visionary, and Trump is just beginning. Sure as promised, America first, but a rising tide raises all the boats. Where are experts predicting the worldwide catastrophe, the end of life as we know it
Iron I could write a book on the subject, but you and intelligent people know the truth, and Golden Morons are beyond help

Why would a Polish citizen admire Trump?

Trump represents the only country on this planet Poland can count on and call a friend.

Good enough for me...
Where are experts predicting the worldwide catastrophe,

They were right. Dow lost 0.4% YTD. The end is near...

Eh? What? Did you not say that the US has no friends or allies? Unless he represents some other country that hasn't been mentioned here.
---

Indeed, it does. Not always for the better.
Don't take me wrong, I support Trump. I just don't see a reason a Polish citizen should admire him. In fact, I have no doubt he would sacrifice Poland for the US interest, as he should. I only hope he won't sell Poland for peanuts or some delusional gains.
