Looking for Pontus relatives

I am looking for relatives from Ostrow and Budy Mdzewskie, Poland.

Michal Pontus was born in Ostrow in abt 1851. I believe the birth certificate says Michal Ponton, son of Michal and Anna Jakubowska. His marriage certificate say Michal Pontus! He married Salomea Pawlowski in approximately 1873 in Budy Mdzewskie. Michal & Salomea had at least 6 children (their son Walenty is my grandfather).

We are looking for any information on Michal (and his ancestry)... Don't know where I can find any information on this.

Thanks

Barbara

This is a site of parish to witch belongs Budy Mdzewskie. They have books of baptism, marriage, and deaths certificate dating back to the end of XIXc. You should start your searching from there.

Earlier books were probably taken to Warsaw, because of consolidation of archives in the beginning of XXc. Bad news is that during WWII Germans intentionaly destroied polish archives and libraries (including National Library in Warsaw in 1944).

Good luck Barbaro

Michal Pontus was born in Ostrow

Unfortunately their parish have books dating back to 1905.

PONTUS: interesting surname, more common before the war in the eastern broerlands; possibly from Pontus (Latin name for an ancient Greek sea-god) or Latin word for bridge pons (gen. pontis).

Pontus is probably the right name. There are 36 people in Mława, who's name is Pontus. (Mława is a powiat - district, to which Ostrów and Budy Mdzewskie belongs.

A ponton in Polish is a pontoon in English. There is no-one in Poland at present using Ponton as a surname.

Thank you all!

I have a marriage record from about 1850 for Michal Pontus (Ponton). Is there anyone who can read Polish and would be willing to do a quick translation for me. This will, hopefully, tell me who his parents are.

Thanks a million

Alligator,
I cannot attach record, as the system will not allow me to do either JPEG or PDF. Please, if possible, contact me with an e-mail where I can attach the record to. Thanks
