Not really. They are 80 % from Anatolia = Turks converted to Christianism, and 20 % southern slaves. This is the real etnic mix of modern Bulgarians, the official one (check please the Encyclopaedia Universalis or the Bulgarian websites).
Usually, slaves were giving up their faith under knifes and were converted by force to Islam by the Turcs, when muslims arrived to settle somewhere (ie ex Yougoslavia, Albania). But 2 populations, after the worse massacres ever, were so terrified that they forced the Turks remained on their territory to convert to their faith: one slavic population, in Bulgaria. The other exemple of conversion : Malta; an Arabic ethny, speaking an arabic dialect, converted to Christianism. They're not Italian or Greek, Macedonian, they're Arabic/semitic.

The mixing theory is not bad, but probably less important that the melatonin production. Melatonin is produces after some hours in the mountain. And it takes some mounths to your organism to stop producing it massively, when you leave, Africa, the south, the montains... Because it ask energy to produce something. Not needed ? No more produced ! THIS IS THE LAST discovery, and it changes our vision of genetics... The evolution and adaptation to the environment is MUCH faster that imagined!
In France, Belgium, black and arabic populations are so much clearer than their cousins, brothers, oncles... living in Africa, just after one generation or two. I'm not talking about women, because they're using creams, sunscreens, make up, whitening creams (giving skin cancer, grrrr...), you never know was it natural, and what is not.
Some African Americans, pretty clear, HAVE NOT a drop of white blood. Many have, but some NOT, and they look almost the same.
