Polish looks?

In my family,

Grandma had black hair and brown eyes.
Grandpa had Blond hair and blue eyes.
Mum has mid-brown hair and blue-grey eyes.
Auntie Jadwiga has blue-grey eyes and brownish red hair.
Uncle Janusz is balding and grey (originally light-mid brown hair) and blue eyes.
Auntie Irena has dark brown hair and blue eyes.
Auntie Basia has mid-brown hair and blue-grey eyes.

Cousins:
Krzysztof has dark brown hair and blue-green eyes.
£ukasz has brown hair and blue eyes.
Wioleta - Brown hair and brown eyes.
Asia (ah-sha) has mousey (blond-brown) hair and brown eyes.
Martyna - mousey hair and light-brown eyes.

I think my family is from all-over, but most live up in the Zachodnio Pomorskie & Pomorskie. Most of the women in my family are short-to-average, and the men are tall.

I didn't include me in the above (or my sister + dad), as I am half-Hungarian and Half-Polish. So, look-wise..I had pale blonde hair that turned to light-brown as I got older, and have greenish eyes.

I also don't look very Polish (more Hungarian). When I went to visit my family the-year-before-last, people couldn't place me, or as my Aunt said, they could place me as being different (in Dziwnow).

Hi Shari:

I am also part Hungarian and Polish, and people often can't place me. I have posted my pics and background on the previous page, post 411. You say that you look Hungarian; what does that mean? Can you place my looks?

Hi,

You definitely have Slavic features. My mother has a similar nose and lips to yours. Your eyes and hair are also Slavic. You also seem (to me) to have Central Asian features. The broad/high cheekbones. So perhaps you need to look around the central asian and slavic borders (e.g. Russia or far east Ukraine). A bit of the mix (features) reminds of me of a Hungarian man I met with slightly asian features, maybe distanly Mongolian or central Asian.

Do you have a natural tan? I know that a lot of Hungarians (maybe even the neighbouring countries) have that healthy tanned look.

--

I have a Hungarian face-shape and features. I look a lot more like my Dad, Aunt and Grandma (Hungarian-side). They originate from Pecs.

Hi Shari:

Thanks so much for your response. I have posted on this topic a few times on this board, and no one has ever bothered to comment, and when they did, only to tell me that I don't look Polish (except for one other poster). It is not really important to me to look one way or another, and I am just as proud of my Hungarian heritage, but I know that there is more than one Polish look.

I have a theory that my maternal grandmother may have been from the Ukraine when it was part of Poland, and may be Polish-Russian, but I would think that they would know. I am adopted and have met my birth mother, and I would think that she would know this if it were true. But, maybe they didn't think it was important because the grandmother identified as Polish and it has been lost through the generations. I have seen a picture of her and she definitely looks like someone who would have a typical East Slavic look.

Yes, I have naturally olive or tanned skin, but two of the pictures that you saw were taken in Southeast Asia, so I was especially tanned. However, my cheeks are also very rosy, and can blush deeply, which I have heard is a slavic feature and a Mongolian/Asian feature, but I don't know.

I am Eastern European on the maternal side, but also part Arawak Indian/Suriname/Dutch on the paternal side. You could also be seeing that aspect, but I know that I am a mix of both.

So, what is a Hungarian-shaped face? I always thought that I had one. Do you have any pictures of yourself that you can post?

I'm so glad to meet another poster who is part Polish and Hungarian!

No-one has a symmetrical face. The only part of the body that is symmetrical is the pupil of the eye that beholds all the asymmetrical people of this world.

Um, no one has a perfectly symmetrical face - some people look more symmetrical than others, namely supermodels, 'cause they're plastic or enhanced digitally for magazine covers. But there's small, minute differences everywhere. There really isn't anything that is perfectly symmetrical that is manmade in the physical world. Even a perfectly "straight" set of steal bars set "parallel" to each other and placed by machines will be off, even by the slightest degree, because of the smallest factors.

no one has a perfectly symmetrical face

i think they mean that most peoples faces are more symetrical than our own faces

are faces are both sharp & soft look at sombody from poland they might have dark features but there face will still look open & soft

im no expert, but in my personal opinion Poles most commonly have sharp high cheek bones, inset eyes (deeper in their face than most europeans), defined noses, light brown hair (ranging from dark brown, to mouse brown to a near blonde), hazel or cobalt blue eyes and are commonly tall in stature. Poles skin colour is different to most slavs as it is more orangy yellow (not quite olive) and not as pale white as neighbouring slavs. Forgive me if you do not share the same opinion...

Er, hate to break it to you, but if you're looking at things that far back, there is no such thing as a "True" Pole. Human life on Earth did not begin in Poland, therefore it is not possible to be a "True" Pole by your definition. Most experts believe life began in Africa, and you can clarify that by running a quick search. I'm curious as to where YOU got your information on what "true" Poles look like.

I dated a Polish woman from New Jersey 2003-2004 while in my late Forties, she was somewhat older than I, but in great shape. I was living in New Orleans at the time. I believe she turned 60 on her last birthday, I am now 53. She was one of the most beautiful women I ever saw, a natural blonde with thick but baby-fine hair, and very light, bright blue eyes. As many have pointed out, she had exquisitely high cheek bones and her eyes were very deeply set. A looker all the way around, but also, a sweeter personality one could not ask for. I am very often sorry I let that one get away.

I am almost 100% polish...but with however my genes mixed with the little bit of irish in me, I ended up with red hair and navy eyes. At work and school I get asked what nationality I am, because I do not look like my friends and, although most will say that Americans don't have a "look", I look very different than many other people who can trace their family lines to America.

navy eyes

I've never seen anyone with navy eyes ?

:)

The navy must mean a very dark blue.

My mother had robin's egg blue eyes and while I called my own blue, they were much darker. I've come to learn that my color is widespread throughout central and eastern Europe. They can look dark blue, aqua or grey depending what I am wearing.

What's funny is that my dad has black hair and blue eyes, my mother is blonde with blue eyes, and I came out blonde with blue eyes.

I thought the 'darker' genes were more dominant...thought I would have black or at least dark brown hair...the blue eyes must have been dominant throughout, because finding a person with jet black hair and blue eyes is not all that common.

I have green eyes and dark blonde/light brown hair...but it seems like everyone else in my family has hair on the darker side. Perhaps that will be my fate later in life. I don't think anyone in my family has brown eyes!

I have dark brown hair, hazel/ green eyes and dark olive skin tone...my fathers family is German and with the last name Vogel everyone is confused. Now i am married to a Garcia and everyone assumes i am mexican...;)

When you go to Chicago, you can almost always spot a Polish person, by the way they dress, look and walk.

Hehe, it's true for the most part. I lived there for nearly 20 years and I can usually spot a Polish person before I even hear them talking =]

I am 3rd generation Polish, and when I introduce myself to new people they ask, so when did you come to America? and what country are you from? Even close friends would swear that I am Russian, and where I work even foreign exchange students think I am one of them!

Hehe, the international students here sometimes think I'm one of them too, but the Americans all know better. ;)

I don't like US boys...

lol, me neither. That's why I got me a nice Hungarian. =D Polak, Wegier, dwa bratanki... ;)

So, what is a Hungarian-shaped face?

round.

Polish looks are fairly distinctive but some just don't match the bill. Hungarian, nice, tell him that his country's goulash is legendary. I had goulash soup with added paprika yesterday and some dish with sausage and beans just 10 mins ago (lencsefozelek kolbasszal). The Magyars are very curious people.
