Bryszkiewski - searching for my Polish roots

Good evening every one my name is Franciszek Bryszkiewski I used to visit this site a long time ago but life got in the way there might be people that remember? but those who don't;. My father fought in WW2 with the Polish Free Army but settled in the UK in 1946 he never got to go back to Poland but had planned to go in1976 but sadly passed away in 1975. I however managed to go in 2018 and saw his remaining family. I am researching his war years I have his records from 1946 in the UK from the Polish Resettlement Corps , but they have no records from 1939 -1945 they said I need to contact Poland if anyone here can give me advice on where to look I would be most grateful. Thank you

It sounds like a Jewish-Polish surname. If there's no other information available, I'd start with the church/burial records.

It sounds like a Jewish-Polish surname.

What is so Jewish about Bryszkiewski? Why is it so important to claim Jewishness when talking about a clearly Polish name? Let me tell you, it is not by mistake; it is by design. After all, we are not talking about Kaplan, Lewitski, or Szlomski.

Why is it so important to claim Jewishness

Why is it a problem to you when sb claims Jewishness????????

What is so Jewish about Bryszkiewski? Why

Nothing... 🤔

Why is it a problem to you when sb claims Jewishness???????

Comprehension problems as usual,I wish every Jew claims his/her Jewishness an be proud of it, but our names are part of our heritage, not the fodder for propaganda. Why are you always on the wrong side when defending our heritage? For the sake of argument let see the problem from neutral point of view.
So, a Jewish family named Bryszkiewski once lived in Poland alongside many Poles with the same name. I fail to see what logic you use to justify your anty-Polish position.

I fail to see

Yes, you fail to see that I asked a completely neutral innocent question about your heart breaking dilemma over certain surname.

Are you arguing for the sake of arguing, or is there a severe comprehension problem or just an inability to look more profound than the thickness of your skin?
Stealing your heritage to you is a trivial matter because you are Kalakut, not a Pole. And your sarcastic HEART BREAKING DILEMMA sounds like ignorance , more than
sarcasm.I can only guess who and for what reason: running a mole operation, but I know the sh*tis going on forever. I will not forget the highly intelligent , articulate member, Kaprys, and her struggle to guard what is ours and what is Polish. She will be remembered as a patriot long after PF's existence.

you are Kalakut

Who is that? I don't know him

My father was Catholic my English mother was Church of England so they had to get permission to marry by the Bishop to my limited knowledge there was never any mention of Jewish in the family not that would be a problem to me. I have every respect for any religion in the world. In fact every Christmas i have a Jewish style candle holder and i arrange the candles in the flag of Poland in memory of all the Poles,Jews and any one else who was needlessly slaughtered at the hands of evil murderers,
who can never celebrate this special time. I will post later as i have some more questions on my search.

My Father was 15 when Hitler stole the motherland a barbaric in humane theft my blood boils just at the thought, he and his older brother where forced to fight for Germany not his choice how could it he was a boy Poles had a choice it was Hitlers will do or die. Anyway he was repatriated with the Polish Army and had to grow into a man and help the fight for freedom. So 1939-1946 I have no answers Dad has long past so have his immediate family. I visited Poland 4 years ago and fell in love with a beautiful land people and culture, met my cousins and saw my Grandparents graves. But had little information on his war years. I am in the process of writing a book about my life and family and the information my fathers war years are an important part of it, without him I would not be here here and without the war he would never had moved to England hard way to think but the reality is the truth. This is my lone search so any help is appreciated. I have a 2 places to name Nowe Miasto Lubawskie and Boleszyn if any body recognises these this is where I start
Thank you.

A derogatory term used to describe members of unsophisticated, rude, crude invaders from the Far East with Mongolian features.

Were they not Poles?

Of course, they were. The point I am making is why twist the obviously Polish name. It reminds me of forcing a square peg into a round hole.
It would be perfectly acceptable to look for Bryszkiewski, period. Why create Jewish diversion? Did you read, obviously sarcastic suggestion, to look in church records for information?

As far as I can see, it was just something that Ron suggested on the basis of the name's sound. I'm not sure if Ron speaks Polish or has ever lived in PL.

I was puzzled too by the comment, since it didn't sound like anything other than a usual Polish surname.

Boleszyn

There are two. One in the north in an area which I think was German territory before the war, albeit with a large Polish population and the other in central Poland (the Holy.Cross Mountains - we have a poster here from there).

I was once told on another Polish forum that it was a "cool surname" by a Polish member which leads me to believe it is not a common name I would not know that living in England but my heart is in Poland and always will be.

Are you arguing for the sake of arguing

With all his preening and clowing about, he is something that you can translate for your US understanding as a left wing of the Democrats. In such a world of lefists it is obvious if there is a Jew in the sentence it must be your sinister anti-Semitic plot.

It sounds like a Jewish-Polish surname

It sounds Jewish to your American ear, you see - skie and you think Jewish.
Such connection does not exist.
Sorry to burst your bubble.

not a common name

It is rare.

If you put it into the search box at nazwiska-polskie.pl/ it will tell you (screenshot below) that there are only six people with that name, all living in the same small village called Kurzętnik close to Nowe Miasto Lubawskie. The Boleszyn in question is likely to be the one in northern Poland.

It was actually Polish from 1920 though the German and German speaking population was a significant size and in the war became part of Germany rather than an occupied territory.

your sarcastic HEART BREAKING DILEMMA

Why sarcastic?? That was the impression we got from your comment!
Peruse your precious words again and think what mood on your part they implied:
What is so Jewish???

Why is it so important ???

we are not talking about Kaplan!!!

jon357  72 | 23678

so could you please stop this talk

People stopped at least half a dozen posts ago.

If that talk makes you uncomfortable, it's worth mentioning that it's only those posts that you respond to. The other ones offering useful information go without comment.

Are you planning to visit Poland? It's a nice place to come.

FIND ABOUT MY FATHER

You need to wait, maybe someone who knows something about your father will stumble upon this forum, but chances for that are small.
It is an American forum for the most part.

I know Boleszyn as I have property close by. It's a tiny place with two small shops, a couple of ponds and a car wash. But more and more Warsaw people are getting summer houses up there.

German name is Bolleschin and it might have been majority German even after 1918.

I don't think I will be out there until Easter time but happy to take some photos if that would interest you

Why is it so important ???

Dear stupid with comprehension problems, it is not essential, relatively trivial, like a camel's nose in the Beduins tent. Capish?

It's good to find your spiritual home.

The article was interesting and it looks like you had a good time in Poland.
